  • great job! i might be learning this soon! when did u start playing?

  • molto bello

  • good job!

  • This is gorgeous. This really encourages me to practice my viola harder.

I'd LOVE to play so smoothly.

  • Wow! That's incredible. I wish you the best in your future studies. You've got it! Bravo to the exceptional violist.

  • yeah violas!!!! :D

  • nosebleed...O_o

  • I LOVE YOUR CHANEL

  • Beautiful piece. ^_^

  • very nice.

  • PATRICK!!!! You are so cute!!!

    It is beautiful :)

  • hell yeah he is

  • it's a pain. how long did it take you?

  • your vibrato is beautiful; i don't suppose you could put up a video of how you use your technique?

i am having to re-learn vibrato so this would be a great help...

  • i had to re learn vibrato too it was all because i taught it to myself wrong!

  • Videos like this are the reason I picked up on the viola.

  • dude, that is just awesome...im commenting offa my brother's account but OH WELL

i play viola too and im workin on this song right now but seriously, u play a lot better......ITS AWESOME!!! :)

  • wait no actually when i get as old as u (which could be pretty old no offense :) but im in 6th grade right now) i might play as good as u!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    u. are. stinkin. dang. goooooood. and THATS compliment. i think. :D

  • I would recommend that you try to find a transcription of Krutzers violin studies and really work on the first etude. It will help you make your ending sound beautiful.Keep up the good work. It sounds like you really enjoy playing music.

  • That was done well. just think about the note before you shift to go into the higher positions and you will be fine. Watch out for the tone on the E and F on the a string. I know its hard to play those notes with the same intonation as the other strings in 3rd and 2nd position. Make sure that run at 4:00 is more in tempo. You use your finger patterns nicely in the 5:25 section. Watch the double stops at section 6:03. make sure that you do not force the bow when playing the double stops.

  • Ive been playing the viola since my beginning of 6th grade and got into the advanced class, but one day i want to play as good as someone like you. Honest to goodness.

  • Let the weight of your elbow rest on the strings through your bow contact - it will give you a much richer sound. Nice tone on the D string in position, but try playing closer to the bridge - it will give the sound some more body. Watch the D# in measure 31. Remember - Romantic era! You don't start trills from the upper note anymore. I would also recommend staying in lower positions when you don't have to shift sometimes. It's not always good for your tone, especially if your intonation suffers.

  • Oh, and fantastic job! It sounds very polished, and I'm impressed with your technique. You use more of the written fingerings than I ever dared to. Keep playing!

  • just be more expressive! don't worry so much in getting just right, relax!

    You're doing a great job :)

  • wonderful. I'm violin player but my second fave instrument is viola I love ir so much and you are a very good instrumentist congratulations!

  • what a sweet way your playing! i don't think you have to be that careful though. exaggerate and be more expressive

  • I love this piece, but I absolutely hated playing it- there is so much to worry about getting *just right*. Lovely work. I like the freedom that you have with the bow usage. That kind of fluidity is tough to learn.

  • Hi awesome job on this piece, I am working on it at the moment.

One tip I have which might help a bit with the intonation is to investigate different fingerings in some areas especially to avoid huge shifts down in he middle of a phrase which can spoil the continuity of it.

Also try putting more emotion into the piece and phrase parts differently so it is not all the same.

    Again good work.

  • dig the bow more into the string so the sound isnt as 'floaty' and just watch intonation :)

  • you have a beautiful tone

    watch the pitch, though

  • Yes it's amazing!!! very goooood!!!!

  • gorgeous vibrato and tremolo!

    you are really talented!

    i've played viola for years,

    and you're really an inspiration.

    this is beautiful!

  • There was a tremolo in this piece?

  • i think i have this for a solo for my bairtone but i cant find any baritone/euphioums on here playing it but you are really good

  • This is awesomeee.

I really want the music for this.

And I read the thing about your viola.

That's awesome.. I'd love to get my hands on something like that.

    Well keep playing!

    You're great! :D

  • aii qe linda obra...

    y un gran violista :)

  • A little pitchy

  • indeed a lil pitchy but still nice

  • @docbart30 sorry, he doesn't sound pitchy to me...he did great.

  • @rqm no very pitchy

  • wow, this is simply the most beautiful piece of viola music i've heard. i wanna play it for solo and ensemble!!!

  • very good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow... i must say .. you are spectacular!!! wow!! are you playing still???

  • great vibrato!

  • Your are a gifted player...my daughter just got her first Viola today and you are an amazing inspiration!

    Thanks for sharing!!!

  • cool shit

  • I once tried playing an 17.5" but it was way too big. The priciple violist of the London Symphony Orchestra plays an 18" viola made by the Amati brothers from around 1650. But apparently, a true full sized viola is supposed to be 21"! You'd have to play it like a cello!

  • What size viola is that? Mine is a 16.5" Stentor.

  • I play on a 16 3/8" Bronek Cison viola. It was formerly owned by professional violist Jennifer Stumm. I love that viola.

  • @violaissimmo i like playing on the 16.5 as well where is yours made from, mine is from paris 1816 i think

  • I said in a previous comment on another video that you are great. A stand corrected. You're excelent.

  • ugly piano.....

  • Patrick do you have msn?

  • hey Patrick now with 18 years you will post a new video again? please !!!! =) obrigada ^^ thank you so much !!!

  • u sick? do it again when u feel better?

  • sigh i miss this piece i lost my music for it since i auditioned almost 4 years ago now haha. it's so fing beautiful. thanks for playing so warmly keep playing

  • well i´m violinist, and i´m just thinking in a complementary instrument for the college, and i´m hesitating between piano and viola, but after listen this i think, my choice will be for the viola... :D, such a madurity..

    how old are you?

  • I was 16 in this video. I am now 18.

  • Omg Patrick you are so sexy! Will you marry me?

  • You're really good. That was really beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing it! Beautiful instrument too.

  • Hi =)

  • Hi =)

so beautiful !!!!!!! I LOVE THIS MUSIC =)

thank you someday I´ll play too ^^ kisses

  • By the way, whats the size of your viola? and rosin you are using? thanks

  • i hope you enjoyed this piece! I'm just playing it now and its so beautiful

  • I did enjoy it! I was thinking about pulling it back out to see how I sound now, a year later. Have fun playing it! It's such a great piece.

  • You did it real amazing, 5 stars. how long have you been playing the viola? what about violin? what string did you put on your viola?

  • At the time I made this video I had been playing about four years. I have never studied the violin seriously. I started on the viola. I use Eva Pirrazzi Strings. I don't think I spelled that name right, but yeah, you know what I mean.

  • Cool. I will switch to viola real soon. Two weeks from now. Cool. Ive been playing the violin for almost 1 year and switching to viola since my teacher rold me that I got the physical built for it. Better career for me too.

  • omg..tis is so gud!especially d double stop part n d un poco stringendo part..i wish tat i could do tis..

  • magnifique ! bravo !!!

  • Thanks for giving this online. Its the only way for me as a violonist to know how this sounds and how to play!

  • Here's some constructive criticism, Patsy: PLAY FOR ME MORE OFTEN. Guess what, world. I've had the honor of watching him practice. LIVE. It's an experience. I always knew I'd get a musically-inclined boyfriend. Let's make music together, Patrick. I'm so serious.

  • ...Who the hell is the Asian Squirt Queen? That sounds like a really vile porn star...

  • buen sonido de la viola saludos.

  • One of my friends is trying to play this piece at school. Honestly, she not doing too hot. lol shes trying tho.

Its great to hear what its supposed to sound like.

  • I can view that you use the soul when you play, and I receive some emotions for this... you've clean soul..

Please study with a master who teachs the fraseggio, expression and interpratation.. Good work.

  • Is there like a metronome playing? Maybe its just the quality.. Really, though. I really enjoyed this. You have a really good sound, and great posture if I do say so myself. Just... yeah I think I'm going to have to agree with most of these comments. More emotion! =D

  • omg i played that piece when i was in 8th grade this is cool

    the viola rocks

  • im playing this piece! i never realised how beautiful it is!! thanks!

  • Haha, thanks.

  • muy bueno

  • What a beautiful piece! I'm stuck with playing the viola this semester for my university's orchestra (I've sold my violin a while ago and refuse to settle for a sub-par violin...) and was getting a bit restless trying to find a fun/pretty piece to play on the viola!

Looking forward to more violarrific tunes from ya~

  • Well I'm so sorry you're "stuck" with the viola. I hope you have fun playing it!

  • It was really good, but it was boring. Hardly any emotion. Put more feeling into it and it'll be amazing.

  • My favourite Bruch composition after The Violin Concerto No.1 - so thanks for uploading. Excellent stuff :D

  • I played this piece for NYSSMA this past (10th grade) year, and i got a 97 out of 100 on it. I would reccomend a bit more emotion and heavy vibrato when u can. Also, some of your choice for fingerings and bowing seem a bit weird. Overall though, good sound and tone. Just add a bit more personality. KEEP GOING FELLOW VIOLIST!

  • this is really good! as someone who performed this accompanied by orchestra almost exactly 10 years ago, the only piece of advice i feel i should give you is to put every ounce of emotion you have in your body into it. you've got the technique...now bring out the passion! :D

  • Nice viola :-)Good double stops and fourth finger vibrato! Keep improving your musicality and use of dynamics. Good job :-)

  • very nice

  • really nice...

  • better with an orchestra...

could have been more emotional, and more free!

anyway, the piece is beautiful. i love accompanying it:)

  • Yeah that's true, he should have gotten a 40 person orchestra to accompany him.

  • u no u sounded like a professional recording and i plan to play that same solo next year on my viola

  • from one violist to another, I thought this was great. Bruch's my favorite, I thought you had the technique down, and very elegant fingerings, but your skill suggests that you could have done more with the phrasing, and I would recommend a rit starting with the final entrance after piano solo (starting on the G). Fantastic work.

  • i agree with ekirbizzle

  • patrick, some general constructive criticism:

for your it's a little pitchy, and i think you could be MUCH more dramatic with character changes and phrasing-- but! that viola is really working for you. love your sound! :) good luck with heifetz!

  • beautiful interpretation of this piece. keep up the good work!
