IF in any morbid sick way we could be thankful to AIDS is that it gave science a big burst in the research of viruses and infections that were pretty much ignored or unknown until the HIV showed up, like PML. While PML took the lives of 30% of AIDS patients today that number has been reduced to 6% and while it is still considered terminal the life expectancy is much longer than it was in the 90's so suicide is no longer the primary option.
