  • I'm going to try to start doing this...first heard about it from Aldous Huxley

  • Plz tell me. Ok i been palming for 5 weeks 10 mins a day tryin to fix my lazy eye other websites said i should see results in 6 weeks. Now tell me when i palm should i keep doing this with my eyes closed Or not and how long do i have to do this until my lazy eye is gone almost compleatly. BTW im 17. Please help

  • @ishmael837 I think you have got a mistaken impression of how Bates method works. Palming, on its own, is unlikely to change a lazy eye. Your eye is called 'lazy' because the connection between that eye and the brain is not as good as it needs to be. It is possible to improve the connection by methods such as patching or partially obscuring the good eye and giving more stimulation to the lazy one, but you will most probably need help with this. It can't be explained so easily.

  • Bates method does NOT restore better vision

  • @Zoics13 What did Dr. Bates attempt? What were his results? Whatever method you choose to use, Dr. Bates had children us his "methods" in 1913 and achieved a certain level of success (from 20/50). I would like to see a FUTURE study conducted with "older" students, that would become successful using a Snellen and their own trial-lens kit. Cheers!

  • How does this help me not wearing my glassed

  • this is really frustrating... it seems pointless and fucking stupid. why put your palms on your face instead of a mask to cover the eyes? what the hell

  • That is one big cup of tea.

  • @the521cesar Try it one time. Get a piece of print as a test, and look at it without glasses at your best distance. Then palm for 20 minutes, focusing your mind on relaxation and happy feelings. Gently open your eyes and see if the print looks any blacker.

  • Comment removed

  • @the521cesar did it work?

  • undr palms, eyes would be open or closed... ithink open of course..or closed...just to be sure

    :) thanks!

  • @klett69 Closed, usually! It's about letting the eyes rest. Usually they feel more rested when closed.

  • Well explained.. nice and easy

And remember this is helpfull for everyone, even when stressed out at the office or other stress inducing environments.

  • Closed.

  • i have a question when you covert your eyes with your palms do you keep yor eyes open or close?

  • im myopic -1 both eyes. After palming i see better and clear as long as my eyes do not blink but after the first blink it gets blurred. Is this wrong and pls can you tell me what should i practise more??Thank you

  • @TreeofRegeneration It's normal for the clear vision not to stay. As soon as you leave the state of mind behind, old habits come back. I suggest practise shifting and swinging using imagination. Too much to explain here, but see my other videos!

  • When I cover my eyes with my hands, Do I have to close my eyes as well as cover them with my hand?

  • over years of playing dum video games my eyes gradually got worse, would bates method still work in this case? and when palming do you close your eyes also or solely just cover them while open with your plams, thanks

  • I advise Behavioral Optometrists to my students but only if they do not sell laser. Laser and Plus Lense treatment, contact lenses cause eye injury, vision impairment. A true Bates Method Behavioral Optometrist is the way to go.

See FDA warning on Thomas Quackenbushe's website.

  • Julia Glavin, Happy Hag stays true to Bate Method!

I notice that some Natural Vision Improvement certified teachers have been going against their training and advertising for Behavioral Optometrists that sell harmful cornea laser surgery, plus lenses and other unnatural methods.

Julia Galvin does not give into selling these unhealthy, dangerous treatments.

Thank you for keeping us safe, natural, clear vision, healthy eyes.

  • @ClarkClydeNight It's true that I don't encourage laser surgery. I have met people who had problems with it. I also know people who had it and are delighted with it. I don't think you can justly condemn behavioral optometrists - they do a good job.

  • @HappyHag I only recomend Behavioral Optoetrists that use the Bates Method with some Behavioral Optometry but no laser surgery. See Thomas Quackenbush website and FDA links. Many injuries from laser surgery. I also will not advise Plus Lenses or Ortho contact lenses.

  • It was blurry after i opened my eyes. But gradually got better

  • How long will it take for me to reduce from -1.75 to perfect?, and did you have myopia problems before also and this got rid of your myopia? or any1 you know of?

    Thanks.

  • @kompis124 Sorry but you just have to try it. See my videos on 'The Bates method' and 'Swinging'. With -1.75 it shouldn't be too difficult to get a clear flash by shifting and swinging. Once you get a clear flash, you just keep practising the things that give you clear flashes.

  • does this work for myopia? will it get rid of myopia?

  • @kompis124 Yes, it works for myopia. Palming is only one part of the method though. Shifting and swinging are also important.

  • Wow. I palmed until most of the light and images were gone (like a minute) and for 5 seconds, I could read your comments (not perfectly clearly but I could read it)! Then moments later, it went back to being weird and blurry.

  • @quitejaded That's great! Then you could ask yourself what was going on in those 5 seconds that caused the blur to return. And how to prevent it.

  • This method makes my vision brighter.

  • Do i have to palm with my eyes opened or closed?

  • Let them be closed like when you're resting.

  • this video is very naughty. a list of words runs up the screen. i saw the word "sex"

    oh my gosh

  • I'm just wondering how many times a day do you need to palm? and how long does it take to notice effects? After I palm, my eyes feel more relaxed, and I believe that's a good sign. Thank you. After you start seeing effects do you still continue to palm? What about after you got your vision back, do you still need to palm? Once again, thank you.

  • If your eyes feel felaxed that's definitely good. So then you can palm whenever you feel strain in your eyes, and it will relax them again. Also, you can palm in conjunction with shifting and swinging. Swing a letter for a minute, palm and imagine the swing for a minute, swing the letter again.

  • Thanks. I don't get what is swinging even though I searched it up on google and on youtube. Is it like you stare at a letter for a minute and you move from side to side while staring at it? What about shifting?

    Thank you~

  • I made a video: 'Bates method: swinging'. You may even see a link to it up there on the right in 'Related videos' if you are watching the video this is a comment to. It's not about staring. Bates method is about not staring. What's the opposite of staring? Shifting your gaze, constantly looking from one thing to another.

  • The thing about practising Bates is, it's not a magic cure and then you don't have to bother any more. You have to keep maintaining your awareness of good vision habits. That doesn't mean you have to palm every day without fail for ever, but you certainly have to be able to see things moving, and be able to relax your vision, if you want to keep good focus.

  • each time you palm, how long do you need to palm? 5 minutes?

  • how long do you usually palm? because i dont have all day...

  • Well, of course, if you could palm all day...:) - I palm for five minutes, sometimes even for just a few seconds when I become aware that I'm straining, just to reconnect with the feeling of movement. (see video on swinging)

  • do i keep my eyes open when i palm or do i just close them?

  • Whatever feels more comfortable: I close my eyes because it feels easier to let them go when they're closed.

  • hi.. thanks for your info, i have a question, can i lie down on my bed and do the palming method?cause i have it easier and more relaxing to do the palming method lying down.

  • Yes, you certainly can. Remember to practise focusing your mind though, rather than just chilling out.

  • Thank you for this video. I really believe there is something to this method!

  • thanks for the info. much appreciated.

  • This method and I mean THIS method alone has given some noticeable improvement for my vision, when I look at the computer's switch light, it has epic blur, 1-2 weeks later, there goes half the blur, I see better now, just "a little practice and some more time" and that "blur" will be gone. Thanks Happy Hag. PS: I am thinking that I am gonna get out of 2.75 on my vision :D

  • That's great news, P5K70!

  • does this actually work? did your vision improve?

  • yes it works

  • when you doing that training are you must glasses?

  • yea i need to know that too !!... Also i want to know for how long should i palming a day,,, is it one hour or two hours or more and after i finish practicing,, should i put on my glasses again......plsss i need the answer

  • she said palm for five minutes, btw has it worked so far?

  • I am a Kid and i have -1 on both eyes . My eyes are getting better by doing this now i can see the board at school and my eyes a down to -0.5 both eyes. its really helping me im doing this to join the air force when i grow up thanks HappyHag

  • r u doing this everyday????

  • is this a scam

  • I thought scams involved making money out of people?

  • Is it possible to just meditate once into perfect vision?

  • With 2 herbs and keeping chemicals away from the body your eyes would improve much faster.

My 6 year old daughter got rid of her thick glasses with this simple plan.

Only took 3 months to heal her eyes, today she is 22 and wears no glasses.

  • A very good video, I must say!

Have you got your vision back to normal after this? I mean is it possible with palming to restore the vision to normal? I am just a little myopic and can I get my good vision back with palming? And how often should I do it?

  • Thanks for your comment! Personally I am still working on my vision - see previous comments. Palming is good, but Bates method also involves shifting and swinging - developing your awareness of how your visual field works. You can search on the internet - see the link to my website above under 'more info', and that will lead you to other websites too.

  • Great, thanks!!

  • May I ask 1 more question? What was the longest length of time you palmed at one interval and what immediate difference can you shape out?

  • Probably about 20 minutes. I often do it in conjunction with swinging or binocularity practices, to make sure I stay relaxed. When I palm after an exercise, I can tell from how my eyes feel and how much black I can see, whether the exercise has been beneficial. Main noticeable result after palming for its own sake, is that all colours look brighter and the chart looks clearer, but it doesn't last unless I stay conscious of the relaxation.

  • In your experience, can you say with absolute certainty that Bates method works for you? Have your dioptres been reduced from doing this? Are you sure you're actually trying to tell the public true and authentic information? Please explain to us all, I'm sure all of us wants to know your personal experience with the Bates method. Please don't leave this question ignored. Thanks

  • Hi furyofnasa, what I can say with absolute certainty is that I can lengthen my focal distance in working conditions to read a computer screen at a distance of 2 feet with either eye on its own, sometimes with both together. This has not affected my dioptre assessment under test conditions. But I don't read my computer in the optician's, so I don't care. I'm still working on the vergence issue, which comes from atropine treatment I had for an infection in one eye.

  • I can also read a computer screen from about five feet if I'm relaxed about it - looking over someone's shoulder and not caring too much whether I can read it or not. My prescription is, I think, about -4.75 and -2.75, but I haven't checked it lately, so I wouldn't swear to it.

  • can i do the palming while im in bed lying down?O.o

  • Yes, you can. I would suggest trying it both lying down and sitting up, and testing out what has the best effect.

  • so if once a day i do palming for like 1 hour will it be enought ?

  • I suggest you try palming for different lengths of time every day for just a few days, and test it out. It's only worth doing if you can notice the difference it makes. You might find ten minutes makes your vision clearer or half an hour or whatever. Plus, there are other things besides palming, such as swinging. See my other videos!

  • oh icic....thanks ill try it =)my friend furyofnasa introduce me to this method lol

  • my left eye is about 150 and my right eye is about 200..should i do this method so that i can make my eye power lower?

  • A more realistic target would be to look at some print at the distance where you see it best, then palm, then see if the print looks blacker or sharper afterwards. If it does, then you know palming is worth doing. Reducing diopters is more of a long-term aim.

  • When I try palming I see flashes of better vision for a second or two. Then its gone. How do I keep the clear vision?

  • The clear flashes don't last because as soon as you stop palming, you stop being relaxed. It takes practice to maintain the relaxation and drop the old habits of straining to see. What's needed is more palming, plus shifting and swinging practice, becoming more aware of movement and allowing movement to appear.

  • It can cure astimagtism, right? I'm only 16 and I have astimagtism =\. My eyesight is not due to old age

  • Actually I have found this mehtod is similar to the spiritual healing method, ie, Qigong, reiki or other forms of meditation. Because both of them use the hands to put on somewhere of the body and then send the energy. From what I know, when you put on your hands on some part of the body (not necessarily physically touched), this action will automatically result in a healing. However, of course, with spiritual healing factors will be more effective.

  • I think perhaps we can use this method co-operating with spiritual healing to enlarge the result... how do you think?

  • So I wasted all that time for nothing? ...

  • What are you talking about? I've done it for two weeks now and I don't need my glasses anymore, I don't see perfect yet, but yesterday I was at my optician and my vision was 1,2 earlier it was 5,5 dioptre.

  • Hmm, I've been doing this for a steady 3-4 weeks now for 1-2 hours everyday. And I;m actually scared to go to an optician, i mean, how would you feel if you wasted so many hours of your life in total blackness and end yp with nothing? So yeah. Any advice? =\ You're basically my optic counselor.

  • Well, if you can't tell whether anything is changing, how will the optician tell?

  • How many times per day should I do this?

Does it really work in the long run?

Is there any science supporting this?

  • I suggest you conduct your own scientific experiment. Sit facing something that looks slightly fuzzy, and note the intensity of the colours. Then palm for half an hour. Then stay relaxed while you notice if the colours / clarity have changed. Do it once a day for a week and note the results.

  • My eyes feel wey after I palm too. Do you get that?

  • Yeah and also I have an apparent problem. I tend to FALL ASLEEP WITHOUT NOTICING whenever I palm for long periods of time and wake I wake up I go like "wtf?" =( Lol

  • No hehe but sometimes when I see total darkness my eyes sorta act weird. I feel needles around my outer rim of my eyes and my eye muscles just twitch randomly o.O I don't know what's going on sometimes lol. Anyways, I'm gonna go hardcore on doing this. Been doing this for hours already for a few days. I'LL continue for a month. If it works, I'll make an awesome tribute video hehe xD. I use something like goggles to cover my eyes by the way, so it's easier for me. And it doesn't exert pressure

  • Um your currency rate is a bit too high for me =P When I palm, do I have to make an effort to close my eyes or just shut them naturally?

  • You can use any print you have for practice - the numbers on a calendar are good, for example. Or make your own! I don't get why you would need to make an effort to close your eyes. Do you normally associate effort with relaxation?

  • Sorry for the english I was in a rush :P

  • Omg...Happyhag..I've been in almost every optic shop in town and when I say "Do you sell Snellen test cards here?" and they say "What? Salem? We don't sell ciggaretes sorry". Where on earth can you get these things?

  • I can send you a Snellen chart, but it's not really meant to use to test your eyesight, more to practise shifting and swinging. You can use it to check if you're improving, too, of course.

  • Is myopia heridatary? My parents wear glasses\contacts =(

  • There is supposed to be a hereditary factor, yes. On the other hand, most myopes start off with good sight, which worsens in the teenage years. To me, this looks more like the development of habits of strain.

  • This eye exercise is great.. i'll do it for a week or more...and i can see the improvement ....it's really great and those palming works..

After palming i can see much better but after few hours my vision is back to normal...but after some weeks...my eyes are learned to focus so i don't need any of my contacts to read subtitles from TV....

  • Glad to hear it's working for you! Thanks for your feedback.

  • Dr Bates said that if you look at a Snellen test card, your eyesight will improve. I don't really understand what it's all about. Will you explain it? I mean, you imagine the words when you're looking at an object or? I'm confused o.O

  • I think he was talking about reading a chart every day. You start from a distance where you can read it easily, so you are familiar with the letters and can imagine them with your eyes closed. Then you move further away. If a letter looks blurred, close your eyes and remember how it looks when clear.

  • Hmm,lets say I put my specs back on after doing some eye exercises. Will my efforts be wasted? And I've also seen A LOT OF comments about eye exercises not working, they're just to improve eye muscles. Will you explain it to me? Thanks :)

  • Bates method is not about improving eye muscles. It is about retraining your brain so that it no longer interferes with the natural function of the eyes. It is also about reconnecting with what your eyes are telling you. It involves a shift from one mental state to another. Wearing glasses does not negate this process, but can hamper it.

  • thanks

  • how long should you do this?

  • Try different lengths of time. Ten minutes - half an hour - it's a balance between how long you've got, and how relaxed it makes you feel.

  • Oh ya, and also, do I leave my specs off put it back on after I palm and do the long swing? I think I should keep my glasses off for a bit before putting it back on, right?

  • You can't just 'do things' and then go back to normal life if you want it to change anything. Palming and swinging should end up having a noticeable effect, so you say to yourself 'Oh yes, things are looking a bit brighter/clearer now!' It's a different state of mind that you want to move into, a state where you see the world moving everywhere, all the time. I suggest you only put your glasses back on when you have to, ie for safety or because you're straining and haven't got time to relax.

  • Thank you very much for your advice :)

  • You're welcome!

  • Huh? You must close your eyes when you palm? I thought the whole idea of it was to keep them open and to stare at the darkness? And also, instead of using my palms, can I use something that covers your eyes? (meant for sleeping) I forgot what you call it. =P

  • The whole idea of palming is to take your mind away from trying to make your eyes do anything, and to focus your mind on an imagination.

  • Very interesting videos...thank you. However, if the Bates method works does this mean whilst your eyesights begins to improve, your prescription for your specs alters. Surely I would have to keep buying glasses (although a weaker and weaker prescription), so I could drive me car...

  • Maybe, although you could probably keep using your original glasses just for driving until you didn't need them any more. Eyesight is very flexible.

  • should you close your eyes when palming?

  • Yes.

  • That is one giant teacup.

  • I've been doing this for 3 months now and my eyesight's improved. Also because of the eye yoga exercises. I can almost see perfectly now. Maybe another 3 months and I won't need my glasses anymore =)

  • how often do you do it a day???

  • PLEASE TELL ME YOUR TELLING THE TRUE

  • I'm all skeptical about the bates method, but i'll give it a try since i don't use my glasses most of the time and i'm not planning to have a vision-correcting surgery in the near future.

Let's see if Bates was a delusional person or a Genius!! This is the only way 2 know the truth, test the hypothesis!!

    Thx 4 ur vids

  • Exactly!

  • get ICL lenses; is bates worth the time; i dunno if it really works; -0.5 can be corrected in homeopathy; mine was -5 is now -4.5 but i dunno if it will be perfect with medicine

  • Hey I'm not sure if you have to close ur eyes or not palming?

BTW my new years resolution is to exercise more and stick with the bates stuff and general eye relaxation.

I've done some bates in the past and even had some glimpses of perfect vision but I didn't stick with it (my eyes -2.75).

  • You are an absolute ANGEL !!!

It's so good to see someone explaining all these helpful techniques. Using the Bates Method I've got rid of my astigmatism, and now use "transitional lenses" (a reduced prescription, but at -8.00, still a long way to go!)

I wear my "full-strength" glasses for driving (thankfully only do short trips - my eyes TENSE UP the minute I put them on!)

Thank you for bringing Bates to life! You're an inspiration!

    Big hugs!!!

    Angela

    (Melbourne, Australia)

  • ya my eyes tense up when i put on -2.5 -8 thats really strong.

  • Dear Friend,

At least you are making an effort!

    Otis

  • Are you meant to close your eyes when they are cupped?

  • you must close them

  • Great! You tell me some things about palming I didn't know before.

"Think of a time when I BOTH enjoyed myself AND felt really good about myself. That staggered me. Makes you think...

  • Fantastic! I really enjoyed this. Thank you for sharing it!

  • These techniques are for better sex right? lol

  • I watch interesting videos on YT.. I'm VERY relaxed after this one.. :)

  • Very neat. :)

  • what a wonderful exercise, thanks!
