Having dyslexia can be a gift & be a curse!

All my life most people laughed at me for having dyslexia. When I was in elementary I was fortunate enough to have parents that put me into tutoring. My dyslexia gets in my way with my math & spelling (other than that I'm fine). I'm gifted in many arts, I can paint like you can't believe & I'm a creative writer! Dyslexics are usually tallented in artistic & creative subjects :) When people laugh at me I just smile and know they're the ignorent ones.

GET SOME COLORED GLASSES! Like trying to teach a blind person to drive a car. You can tell them how to shift and turn, but they can't see the road. In 1988, 60 minutes aired a segment, colored glasses for dyslexics. I was severally dyslexic. I went out and got a pair. Purple was my color. Blues or reds are the colors that work best. At 28 I could read for the first time! I could see the print. It's a physical handicap. Side note, after laysic eye surgery I don’t need my colored glasses any more.

I have Dyslexia. A few people in my family do. I find words challenging and that really frustrates me. People always say I'm confused but they don't explain things to me properly. Google Chrome is great for spelling :-) It has helped me a lot. I think Dyslexia schools are really expensive to go there though. But who do we talk too? I feel like I will never succeed.

@kenny1234123121 That really sucks that you feel like you can't talk about it! Try and let him know how important it is for you to talk about this sort of thing. Its such a big part of your life (not necessarily in a bad way) I'm dyslexic too, and I know that the way my eyes focus on a page helps me draw. There are so many positive sides to it as well.

@Cizza225 actualy dislexics are superior drivers, and pilots because we think in 3 dimentions. i tried flying r/c airplanes and mastered it in 5 minuts. most people take weeks learning to take off, fly around in a circle, and land without crashing, i was doing aerobatics the first day.

@LastRqss Because dyslexia, in most cases, doesn't make what your reading look like this: sjfsdifwjeifj. It typically can make words or letters not make a lot of sense, and some dyslexics have no problem spelling but have issues with reading, and vice versa. But dyslexia is NOT illiteracy.

That teacher was a failure, but there are many who can help her overcome her learning problems and the self esteem issues. I think all dyslexic people are of above aveage inteligence and can excell despite thier difficulties.

I suffer dyslexia all my life. English is very hard for me to learn and I failed English classes twice already. I'm talking English for the third time right now, and I still get 2 D's on my essay. I have tutors for years and it didn't help that much. I think this video will meant alot to me.

Is there such a thing as over achieving? I wouldn't have thought so. I for one teach children with literacy difficulties and in some cases dyslexia and my expectations of them are high because I understand their needs and how to suport them. Please don't lump all teachers together based on your own experience.

@FannyMiley Yeah..the vid explains how it differs person to person. Fair play for handeling yours, but for others the problem could be much more severe and it doesnt just effect spelling.

The thing is to just push on in life and get where you want to be. If you have to jump more hurdles than other people to get there it will just mean your stronger than them when you do.

I am Dyslexic. My difficulty is not reading or spelling, but processing information. Eg what somebody is saying to me. Also, I have difficulty writing a sequence of events in the correct order. Or setting up a trampoline which requires certain steps in the correct order. My IQ is 116 and data processing 88 while verbal comprehension is 129.

your right, dyslexic people are often really talented because we think out side the box, like Leonardo Di Vinci was a left handed dyslexic, and i'm in a gifted program for art.

I was diagnosed with dyslexia and short term memory loss at 10 and that really crushed my self-esteem because i was always getting into trouble at school - and i still do 4 years on. Remember, dyslexia is a gift!
