  • can you talk about your network server more i like what you have in it and i wold like to build 1 to keep my pc from cration from viris

  • nice combo tho, what kind of special software/hardware config do u use for the security camera dvr? ive been looking everywhere over the internet :(

  • that setups really loud. how did you get the sony receiver up there? do you have brackets for it or is it just sitting on a shelf?

  • @andyskater94 Using a rack shelf that is vented.

  • whats the power load of that rack?

  • @37474748 Probably 350W or so on average.

  • @Maxxarcade oh that low. my dell poweredge 4400 consumes that and its only one box. How did you make yours so power afficnt?

Im kinda thinking on putting together an storage server :)

  • @37474748 Actually, now that I thought about it, it's probably closer to 500W. The file server alone uses 300+. Some day I'll have to measure it.

  • @Maxxarcade 500watts thats not so bad. how can you keep all them so power afficiant? mine are like powerhugs?

do you suspend your drives when not in use or something like that?

  • Those Proliant servers are excellent. HP continues to make them just as well to this day. Nice setup.

  • Yea, lol nice, man, Planing to get some old compaqs, soon, going to get nt4 server on them and fill them up of harddrives lol, well mabby 2000server

  • lol why do you have an audio reciever on your server rack? Thats pretty cool and unique. Take a look at my videos as well :)

  • Because the rack also contains all my home theater equipment. It is all controlled remotely. I should update this video to show the newer hardware some time.

  • Server and home theater rack in one!

  • Well thought out for sure

  • what is the box called that house's your file server and dvr, is it simiply a PC case with more room for a lot more stuff and if so could i use 1 2 house hard drives and 1 for the mother board, multiple gpu and ram also if i wanted to use the pci cards could i connect a pci slot using a wire into another box where the pci card would sit.

  • nice rack. hope you make a more updated tour of it soon :)

  • I hope too. Gotta clean up things a bit and get some better lighting first.

  • Awesome =)

  • ignore last comment

  • my comment wont post

  • I have got the same rack server cases as you :D

    (Codegen By any chance)

  • Yep, Codegen 4U-500 from Newegg. I think ARK is the new brand for them now.

  • I have an organ like that to but it is a lowboy.

It was thrown out..I asked the people after they helped me load it up and they just never "got around to it" now it is in storage I will some day restore it and probably make a panel for the back so I can use a furnace blower on it with out damaging the original back panel

  • wow man that is so cool im a network Major in college wish i had servers like you do are you running on linux?

  • Yes, ClarkConnect, Mandriva, Ubuntu, and NASLite.

  • do you run your own websight or something?

  • No, I just like a lot of speed, space and reliability.

  • yeah but the server rake. I am planing on making one too. how do you remote your radio (radio computer?)

  • With an IR extender system. They cost about $80 for a good one and can be found on Ebay.

  • i like that pipe organ in the back. i have the same one but mine has a book holder

  • That's an old Estey reed organ from about 1888. The book holder has been missing from it for a long time.

  • Hey, I think this setup is pretty cool, what with me just starting out in my new IT job and recently graduating from university but....what could anyone possibly need with a server setup like this in their own home?? :) heheh

What do you use it all for??

  • I wish I could rackmount my stereo/home theater like that.

  • I was originally going to build a rack into a closet wall, but decided against it when I picked up this rack for free. They are pretty easy to find.

The hard part is buying the mounting rails, shelves etc. They cost about $40-80 a shelf, and $50-100 for the computer sliding rails. Of course you could make your own if you are good with metal.

  • dude what do you do that you need 3tb of storage! i mean its an awesome machine but geez, you must have 20 comps in the house lol!

  • Great tour of your system.

  • what sofwere is your main sever running

  • The Compaq is running Clarkconnect Home Edition, the file server is running NASLite-2, and the DVR is running Zoneminder.

Clarkconnect can also be a file server, but I decided to use separate machines for more reliability. Plus NASLite is the fastest of all file server systems I've tried.

  • Man! That thing looks like it could run google. Joking of course.

That is one hefty system though!

  • It has to be able to stream High Def video, provide internet access, and transfer files, all at once without slowing down. It also handles automated backups from my desktop PC.

  • That looks like quite a system...do you have PC's connected to all those ethernet cables throughout the house? Also it looks like there is a reed organ behind it...I have a similar unit but it needs the reed gaps cleaned out as not all of them sound.

  • Neat stuff, did you make a diagram?

  • No, but I wish I did. Having a plan beforehand always helps.

  • LOL that is the way I work. After you get it up and working what do you need a diagram for. Beside if I did make one I would not be able to find it when I needed it!

  • Oh nice :)

Nice tour of all of the components as well.
