  • love this movie. i always hated folk music before this film made me re-examine my position. =0)

    mitch + mickey rule!

  • weh..HEH..LLLllllllllll

  • A mighty wind movie

  • where did this come from>?!???? AWESOME.

  • big rock candy mountain...

  • Brilliant. Only these three guys could dream up a spoof of the Kingston Trio AND Peter, Paul and Mary at the same time by giving Harry Shearer a sex change.

  • EEE AHH OOEES!

  • If they ever decide to revive "The Muppet Show", this little ditty will be perfect for them.

  • We-ellllllllllllllllll hahaha love it.

  • If you play this backwards, you'll hear the secret verses that detail the ritual human sacrifice and cannibalism.

  • @devolve42

    Some mothers do have 'em.

  • save me a table at oe's

  • Spinal Tap on Speed

  • A young Bob Dylan dreamed about being the fourth member of The Folksmen.

  • OK...I saw this movie twice. Where did this B&W clip come from? Did I miss something???? BTW...hysterical movie and I have to agree with many of the comments. It's a spood movie but everyone nailed it perfectly.

  • @Skyhawkct

Its an extra from the DVD, same as the older performance by Mitch & Micky of "Kiss at the End of the Rainbow".

  • @MerelyAFan Thanks for the info!

  • kick it!

  • :0)

  • WEEEEEeellll...

  • I like the fact that the Folksmen opened for Spinal Tap a few times.

  • It's brilliant on many levels. First, all the music from the movie was written by the most of the cast. For those of you who might not know-Guest, McKeon and Shearer, aka "The Folksmen" have appeared as another group in one of the funniest movies of all time- This is Spinal Tap.The Irony is that all these people are known as actors, and yet they have more musical talent than the Lady Gagas of the world.

  • @cptnhair Spinal tap is so much more funnier than A Mighty Wind though. But!!! A Mighty Wind is hilarious.

  • The bass player looks like Keith Moon from the mid 70s

  • Absolutely brilliant! One of the great musical comedies of all time! Thanks for posting!!

  • WEEEelllll... so genius

  • Theres a Eat at joes at stone mtn georgia and in gatlinburg tn/dollywood lol----now most ppl associate "eat at joes" with the crab n seafood place- but it wasnt the original...

  • I know what you mean. I get the comedy but there's a real sweetness to it as well.

  • Christopher Guest has been doing that funny Pete Seeger-like voice since the National Lampoon Radio Hour.

  • Beyond brilliant.

What amazes me most is how perfectly they nail the tunes / tones / tropes of the real folkies of the 50s-60s. They resisted the temptation to go too far (which would have been really easy to do).

The satire is so gentle, if you just heard it on the radio, out of the movie context, you might not even catch that it's a parody.

It's also obvious that they really love the original works and people involved.

  • I know it's supposed to be satirical, but I really love the music from this movie. ^^

  • Me too!

  • Me three!

  • @hellenistic I could not agree more!

  • @hellenistic That's what makes it funny, it's good!

  • you sure about that?

  • Pickin!!!

  • Wellllllllllll

  • oh my gosh i love these guys..... wish they had a new movie.....:)

  • Not understanding the humor of it all is perhaps generational and understandible if you didn't grow up during this era. It is most certainly a wink at our innocence and the way we were back then.

  • Wellllllllllllllllllll

  • Great song, hilarious movie. I loved how Harry Shearer's "E....aaaa....ohhhhs" got progressively longer and more ridiculous each time they performed the song.

  • Absolutely brilliant!

  • loved this movie

  • shearer, mckean and guest rock ans spinal tap or as the folksmen either band/grooup they fucking rock!

  • Peter, Paul, and Mary, especially after Harry Shearer goes tranny at the end of the film. Chris Guest is the best at this shit.

  • Christopher Guest movies always use hair pieces as crucial parts of the story lmao. Every single one (esp. Corky's in Waiting for Guffman) is awesome.

  • "Weeeelll" This cracks me up everytime I watch. Christopher Guest and crew are so amazingly funny. Does he have a new movie coming out soon?

  • They are definitely based on the Kingston Trio... with some bits of the 4 Freshmen in there. My dad was a huge folk music fan and I grew up suffering/enjoying.. the preppy folk of these guys as I grew up. Guest and the rest do a perfect simulation.. even if it comes off as less fun than Spinal Tap

  • "There's a nurse on duty if you don't feel right"

You don't get that kind of service anymore!

  • Love it.

    100% classic.

  • wellllllllllll lol....

  • They absolutely HAD to be loosely based on Peter, Paul and Mary. Alan's tenor voice sounds so much like Peter Yarrow, and there's the sex change at the end of the film to make the reference more obvious. That final note they sing resembles classic P, P and M in songs like "If I Had A Hammer." I suppose the three men could also allude to the Kingston Trio.

  • Absolutly classic. True comedy legend. I always turn people on to Mr. Guest's films. My family and I can't get enough. Thank you so very much. "You're on her, your Honor."

  • They did this song on "Saturday Night Live" in the mid eighties, long before "A Mighty Wind". Does anyone have that clip?

  • One of my favorite movies ever! Love the Folksmen!

  • Hey the guy in the middle looks familiar!

  • I don't get it lol

  • "EA A OE'S" - Why, that is so down home, so rustic and so yesteryearly it makes me want to take Opie fishin'.

  • just the shit!! LOL!!

  • Whenever these 3 get together it's always great. I especially find Christopher Guest's cliched folk-singer voice humorous.

  • They are a great comedy team, and talented musicians as well.

  • can`t believe they are the heavy metal band Spinal Tap

  • They have a real music book for all the songs in the movie. I learn a few just for fun on the ALVAREZ.

  • This complete version is so brilliant. I like that the guy on the right looks a really handsome Folk, but in the movie he looks old, bald and out of place. It makes sense now.

  • isnt the guy on the left on cello' the guy who does the voice of principal skinner on the simpsons (among others)

  • Yep

  • not a cello its a double bass

  • Certainly is - Harry Shearer, aka the master of the double-necked dollar sign bass, Derek Smalls!

  • Do you have the full movie?

  • genius.

  • genius.

  • I wish I could find 2 other guys to sing this with..it is one of the funnest (if that's a word)..songs evar!

  • that's a great movie, funny and sad at the same time, great music

  • Love this movie, along with Spinal Tap.

  • fnar fnar

  • Y'know what, this conversation is heading on a positive route. I think we should end this before it goes downhill and give other people a chance to comment on this. Much obliged, monster-movie watching, anti-P.C. slammer.

  • wtf, so random

  • On the subject of classic comedic actors, I'm more of a fan of Gene Wilder: a somewhat-overlooked gem of a comedic actor.

  • Hey, you're arguing with one of the rare people who didn't find "Dr. Strangelove" hilarious.

  • Sounds like you're not giving me much of a choice. Hey, we all don't share the same laughter for every movie. To me, I'm not really interested in Christopher Guest films, although I admit I find "Best in Show" quite funny; it just depend on one's sense of humor. But you're not buying what I'm saying, right? Fine, in the future I'll give it a second viewing.

  • No, nothing's tickling my funny bone. If what you quoted is a lewd pun, then that pun just didn't phase me.

  • Really? I didn't notice the humor behind them; I jut noticed they are very listenable.

  • complete moron

  • You want me to be articulate? Fine.

"As a comedy movie, I didn't find it to be all that funny, but I do enjoy the songs that are written for the film, especially this one."

Would it satisfy your ego if I just commented on the song itself, rather than to ruin the "I love this movie" parade?

  • To each his own. But you seem to be the kind of people that would reply, "Yea, and your opinions suck." I don't expect anything from what I said.

  • love that movie! lol

  • Tough to believe this is Spinal Tap.

  • Never was a funny movie, but it had some great songs, and this is my favorite.

  • I love that Chris Guests' character isn't really playing in the video!

  • reminds me of "grandma's feather bed". :-)

I'm so impressed with them as musicians and way too amused each time I see this movie. It's great!

  • ea......a.....oes

  • lollers

  • Ham...I'm gonna go ahead and have to disagree with ya on this one....Guffman was good...but this one and Best of Show were sheer brilliance.

  • all of chris guests' movies are fantastic. i thought "for your consideration" was the worst one though. still pretty good though. guffman's the best.

  • Yeah, Guffman rules... STOOLS!

  • Isnt the song called "Old Joe's Place"? No matter, still a great song, and a great movie.

  • this song reminds me of the Cheers themesong

  • all the songs in that movie were original, written by those guys.

  • FAVE MOVIE!!

  • LOVE IT!

  • ....weeeeeelllllllllllll

  • My fave movie Oh how I love you A Mighty Wind

  • WA HEL!

  • A great movie !
