this is not a kei car.. it's a bulked up kei car on steroids. we couldn't get real kei cars in the U.S. because of our strict safety regulations. I read real kei cars like the Suzuki Wagon R get up to 60 mpg.
L-O-L- 60 HP too little? whatamatter, too much pants room?
he should try driving an 18 HP 30 y.o. FIAT 500 on hilly roads and then talk back... or take a 45 HP yugo for a spinn.... i bet he'd like that little car much more after that.
The electric car is too far ahead of it's time because battery technology is very primitive at this current day. I don't care how safe these electric cars are supposed to be, it's guaranteed that those batteries will eventually catch on fire or blow at some point or another!
Imagine you're on the freeway with a huge tandum tracker trailer passing you or on your tail, like all these really tiny cars they are death traps on the highway, useful only as a second or third car for city driving at best.
@chrisdesuyo Not sure if anyone has mentioned this to you but, they got 27 mpg from THEIR driving NOT THE EPA OR MITSUBISHI. Though that's better then my observed mpg in my '77 280Z: 21 mpg with a 4 speed. Driving the same route, I could get a 2002 Lancer ES 4speed auto to average around 25-27, but that's because I have a heavy foot, just like these guys.
There is got to be something wrong with this test car because 27 mpg for this little gutless shitbox will fly like a lead balloon here in terms of sales. For something this small and low powered it will need to at least double the 27 mpg, more like 54 mpg at least to even be considered.
well, what to say... you all seem sooo decided about that car. on the contrary I'm sure that's a quite good car. ok, the mileage is simply bad, but the rest is just fine. And talking about performance in the USA... come on, get real. with the actual speed limits, you don't need more.
well that is the stupidest thing ever, im all for small cars, i drive a Geo, but sorry this is 2 much, im ok w/ everything this car offers, even the below average performance, but giving up so much 4 only 27 fuckin mpg, no way, u get nearly 10more mpg in a Yaris, & its a better car, only way this car stands a chance here is if it gets at least 30city/38+highway mpg, 27mpg wont cut it, a Geo MetroXFI in the early 90's got mileage in the 50's and it was quicker too!
"breaking news the owner of a kei-car crashed head on into a semi today, the driver of the huge truck reported hearing a splat noise similar to a large fly hitting his windshield, the driver of the kei-car did not survive."
The only advantage I can see compared to a real car is for parking. Otherwise it is less safe, cramped, slow, underpowered, and doesn't appear to have significantly lower fuel consumption. I like the idea of small, light, economical, zippy personal transportation (at least until we get electric cars with practical range or find some insanely cheap, clean fuel for IC engines) but this ain't it.
well that may be true i was behind a bus and like five moribidly obese kids walked out but in all seriousness this and the smart are clown cars the smarts sides are plastic both cars are unsafe (like all small cars) really i dont see why this micro car thing is a trend its stupid
Yeah it's just a difference in taste methinks (though I don't like the smart and hate this but like the Fiat 500 and some other compacts). I for one think that a lot of the the big American SUVs look like big toy cars designed by 3 year olds and have a hard time taking people that drive them seriously (talking about SUVs and trucks here muscle cars are cool and less pretentious).
People in the market for a car like this though I'd wait till Fiat/Chrysler brings over the much nicer 500.

i already drive it in london and is a very practical commuter. here in jersey i drive a smart, just to go from home to the train or bus station and to the grocery store, you don't need a caprice to do that and if you need it you can drive at 80 on the freeway.
@zenom88 Actually, Mitsubishi has never been known to make fuel efficient cars ever. I remember back in the 80s, the Mitsubishi Starion, a kick-ass sports car has a 2.6 liter engine, with only 168hp, and delivered only 19mpg highway. By comparison, a Porsche 944 S2 had a 3.0 liter engine, 4 cylinder, more than 200hp, and it delivered 25mpg! So you see, other cars make bigger displacement 4 cylinder engines, yet having more horsepower, and more spg (smiles per gallon).
Well all you nay sayers dont get the point. Bottom line its better than a certain two seater mini car already sold in the country, that for whatever reason plenty of people already buys. But yeah both cars are pretty stupid.
I think our American built lawn mowers are a much better choice to drive than this car. They get better gas mileage than this car and you can cut grass at the same time! Just a few simple modifications and you can get one to go as fast or faster than this ugly car :) Buy American support American workers.
Dude, you are right! You can easily modify lawn mower, get better mpg, you can put this "car" in the bed of a pick-up truck, or tow it with you mower :) I was driving huge V8 with over 360 BHP and 20 mpg...
27.7 mpg????? fail my 2.2L saturn ion gets better fuel economy than that and it weighs double of that car and i have a heavy foot lol. this car = fail
You could not pay me to get in that thing. It is totally unappealing to me. It looks like a total death-trap, and probably gets mediocre fuel-economy for a small car---just like the smart.
imagine you're driving in one of these K-cars (which in Japanese is de-restricted to 660cc = 0.6 litres of engine displacement) and take a picture in route 66 in the middle of a plain field.... it's unsuitable for American (Interstate-driven) markets, unless you live in NYC, in which case you don't really need a car.
it would be a good run about car for around town, i really don't think power is a real issue since many people have been driving small cars with less power for decades
If this Kei-car is only 2 inches short than the Honda Fit, I would go for Honda for sure. I don't think North America is ready for such awkward looking car yet.
I'm sure you can, like they said it's great for cities, but I feel like that's it. Anywhere else in America and it just won't fit, or at least that's what I can presume
I commute downtown to Chicago for school 6 out of the 7 days of the week, and I have never seen a Smart in Chicago. BUT I have seen them on the highway and all around Chicago Land Suburbia. I'm convinced that people who buy the Smart do it for attention.
63 hp is actually a lot consiering the size of the engine. And its more than enough for a small car to be honest. Comparison to lawnmover is quite silly.
If you put a silly large turbo you can get whatever kind of horsepower from whatever size engine. The problem is - it wont last very long and it wont be what you call "refined". Small engine is just not meant for such power.
It'd also take forever to get the bigger turbo to spool. I don't think it'd be able to get a GT35 to even work except idle, unless they convert it to a twin turbo. It's a .659L displacement engine, 3 times smaller than the size of an Mitsubishi Evolution which has trouble running the GT35 w/o turbo lag.
Btw, there's small engine cars that can push harder than bigger displacement engines.. just depends on the material of the internal engine. M3 w/ HPF, mild displacement but a lot of power, DD.
well iv been running it for almost a year now, and its not a silly large turbo its fairlly small i just rebuilt the eninge. forge pistons, camshaft ect.
let the americans drive what they want...nobody gives a shit about them anyway...they dont have a clue about cars..they think whoever has the bigger car is the coolest...idiots
to be honest, there are people like that all over the world. take Dubai for example, take a trip there or look online at pics and you will understand what i mean.
it maybe cheep and econofriendly but as far as parts go mitsu's extreemly expensive, more than bimmer and mer in some things. i'll have to pass on this sub compact.
We can drive a truck or large vehicle whenever the hell we want damnit! People like you are the reason why we're losing V-8's, & possibly V-6's in 2016. Looks like you & your greenpeace shitheads got your wish. How are kids going to get to school without buses? Can't stuff 30+ kids in a kei car! What about construction trucks? Can't tow much with a hybrid. Plus, you aren't even American, so quit telling my country what to do, & STFU!!
more disposable car, inside looks like it will wear out in days not months or years. Wait there will be better cars out later, IM still waiting for tesla motors model S, all around a great for the planet and great performance!
WRONG!!! You need to check 2010 cars the only maker didn't do great in anterior was Toyota. Almost every other company I checked at the Auto show caught up to today's standards of anterior quality including Chrysler which did way better this year!
this is not a kei car.. it's a bulked up kei car on steroids. we couldn't get real kei cars in the U.S. because of our strict safety regulations. I read real kei cars like the Suzuki Wagon R get up to 60 mpg.

let the americans drive what they want...nobody gives a shit about them anyway...they dont have a clue about cars..they think whoever has the bigger car is the coolest...idiots

to be honest, there are people like that all over the world. take Dubai for example, take a trip there or look online at pics and you will understand what i mean.

this is actually quicker 0-60 than a smart fortwo, and for some reason, i see plenty of fortwo's on the highway here in new jersey.
the if the smart could sell in america, the i definitely can. bring it over!

it maybe cheep and econofriendly but as far as parts go mitsu's extreemly expensive, more than bimmer and mer in some things. i'll have to pass on this sub compact.

why cant mitsubishi make things like they used too.
like that one N/A engine that was a 4cyl at 1.6L that produced 173hp.

Super sized america, thats rigth, fat ass americans.
But I like this car, it's pretty cool.People need to change and start driving this type of vehicle then their huge trucks.

I hope Mitsu DOES NOT bring this car to North America! It is a peice of shit, ugly, and cheap. It looks unsafe too.
PLEASE MITSU LEAVE IT IN JAPAN, WE DONT WANT IT!

more disposable car, inside looks like it will wear out in days not months or years. Wait there will be better cars out later, IM still waiting for tesla motors model S, all around a great for the planet and great performance!
72tubedmiaz 2 years ago
@72tubedmiaz its interior is better than almost every american car (certainly higher quality than the chevy malibu, every chrysler product)
coolerdude44 2 years ago
WRONG!!! You need to check 2010 cars the only maker didn't do great in anterior was Toyota. Almost every other company I checked at the Auto show caught up to today's standards of anterior quality including Chrysler which did way better this year!
ZankDigiTrash 2 years ago
Anterior?
zuneluvr 2 years ago
lmfao i agree that the japanese don't make stellar interiors, but to insinuate that chrysler has good ones in comparison to toyota is ridiculous.
only the europeans really know how to build a good interior.

But what about price? It will only sell if its around $10k
