  • New York City is Orion heaven.

  • BTW the bus is not BIA-built, it actually is OBI-built in Oriskany, NY. For NYCT 100-316+317 are OBIs, 400-401 I'm not too sure of, but 402-580+581-610+611-680 are all OBI-built.

  • OBI and BIA?

  • Yea. You see Orion is Canadian-based, then BIA sprung off from them and opened up the Oriskany factory. In the mid-90s the branch in Oriskany was renamed to Orion Bus Industries I believe just like the Canadian parent. Also for US-destined buses, the thing is the parts are made in Mississauga in Ontario, then assembled in Oriskany. For Canada-destined buses I think everything is done in Mississauga.

It was around the mid-90s when the BIA name disappeared, same time 402-680 diesels were built.

  • Also actually I think 581-610 (1995 CNG series) were built under BIA. Then again, I could be wrong..

  • wow. I'll check into that. I never knew any of this! Thanks!

  • 452 has had that very creepy sounding defective engine for a while, I hear it whenever I see it. It's quite scary especially if you hear it going by your house at night and you don't know what it is.

  • It seems like 40% of them have that sound between 400 and 680.

  • That bus kinda looks like the Bee line

  • yup - same type of bus - the Orion-V's. They are a very popular design - although each agency does have their own special "package" - for example the NYCT version has the opening sliding windows, while Bee-Line's have the top part that folds in.
