  • TWTR4EVER, For a Old Queen who has made over 2000 Anti Diana Ross Posts (on just One Video) Your Opinion isn't worth the Steam Off My Piss, and being the "President" of the 14 Member "Yahoo" Mary Wilson Fan Club, Hardly makes you unbiased

  • This was no doubt the LAST time the backbround vocals were this loud. BG took care of that! Afterall, there are TWO voices back there against ONE lead.

  • u got my vote

  • TheReturnOfBigBear if we are going to go down the road of demeaning THE SUPREMES as you've call Florence Ballard "alcoholic maniac depressive" and Mary Wilson "nymphomaniac hand clapper" then you proceed to over elevate The Andantes & The Water Sisters for their contract job of studio background vocals? But Diane Ross, no comment?

DIANE ROSS was THE BERRY GORDY MOTOWN WHORE who gain her place by screwing THE BOSS, ADULTERER & BACKSTABBER, THE POISON SUPREME!

  • "Doggone Sense"?, Flo (though talented) was an Alcoholic & Manic Depressive & Miss Mary was a Nymphomaniac Hand Clapper,

Beautiful "Harmonies" were achieved Over & Over again with Psuedo Supremes (Marlene Barrows from The Marvelettes, The Waters sisters & The Andantes) to name a few

  • Florence is on point!

  • Miss Mary's voice is "suitable" for Hog Calling & warning ships of Fog, only

  • @TheReturnOfBigBear

    You are way too kind.

    Get to the point already.

  • Idiotas los que siguen el 666

  • ya'll so tired. these were three talented singers who created a sound that sold millions of records. they spent hours days weeks months years perfecting their harmonic sound and made it look like it was effortless. they were doing exactly what they should have been doing until they parted ways.

  • @boofusdeldooofus Tired IS when u spend evey hour of the day hoping and dreaming for the downfall of a woman who not only is a Legend, but could care less what you or I think much less what went down 50yrs ago. Fact of the Matter is some of us happen to Like Diana Ross. Therefore ANYONE attacking her shall be Attacked with the same Energy directed towards Diana. It's that simple. She does not deserve to be attacked like she has been and we fans will not tolerate it. Back off Diana an its Over.

  • @blkshepherd soooooo true! they keep putting her down but that same lady helped to feed them by taking the supremes to a new level once she became lead. people keep saying mary is a survivor but she has not been kicked down non stop for the last 30 years like diana has. Diana is the true survivor...note...lifetime achievement grammy. say no more.

  • @boofusdeldooofus FINALLY, someone with some doggone sense! It's so petty and pointless to tear down one to build up the other. The girls worked their fingers to the bone, and did a damn good job of doing what they did. You can't get those harmonies and those moves without hard work.

  • Kurtsupreme: you sound awfully bitter and immature. Diana sold 100 million albums as a solo artist and won numerous honors the most prestigious being the Kennedy Center Honors. You are the one that needs to check themselves if you dare to call Diana's career much ado about nothing. 12 Grammy nods, 9 American Music Awards. Lifetime Achievement Awards from the World Music Awards, BET, Soul Train, vH1Divas, the list is endless.....

  • That description commentary is so unnecessary. Why start controversy when there isn't any. They all sound strong and alive!

  • She had her own version of the nasal ping that Dinah Washington, Nancy Wilson, Esther Phillips, Stephanie Mills, Little Jimmy Scott and others had that made their voices stand out in a special way. No matter the background story and who did what to whom, that cannot be denied and also a great amount of charisma, promotion, hit material, and hard work and yes, some scheming has made Diana Ross an icon for all time. Nearly 50 years and you can't deny it.

  • I don't understand what people are talking about when people said Diana's voice was weak. It sounds powerful to me

  • @SpazChat If people like Loud & Powerful, they Like Flo, if they prefer Mediocre, Miss Mary is their Girl, But for those of us who Like Unique, Gifted & Talented, We have Diana!

  • @TheReturnOfBigBear Mary Wilson isn't mediocre, she has a fine voice that is suitable for certain songs.....

  • but it sounds too freaky with flo oversinging. it's a shame florence did not leave well before she did..she may not have been so connected to the supremes and may have truly made it...seeing everybody always says she was better than diana. as it was, it proved to be otherwise.

  • @wonderboyjoy Had Flo been able to Get Herself Together and stay away from Greedy Family Members & Tommy Chapman, She could have Easily walked into a Contract with The recently formed Invictis Label owned by Holland, Dozier, Holland, That would have been The Perfect Solution!

  • Look Closer it's in Miss Mary's Book, J Randy Taraborrelli's Book & Tony Turner also backs up the story, Flo was off "Sick", Flo @ one time was also a Marvelette (when one of the originals got Knocked Up) You may apologize to me later, & for Christs Sake put a Damn Condom On!,

  • Thats not true return of big ber theres a video that sys otherwise remember Miss Taraborrelli wasnt there!

  • Flo wasn't even on The Original Recording, Marlene Barrows (The Marvelettes) filled in for her at the Recording session, Just like NO SUPREME on" Love Child" or "Someday We'll be Together" either, So much for your Twisted Logic Kurt

  • @TheReturnOfBigBear THATS BOLLOCKS!! FLO WAS ON EVERY RECORDING UNTIL THE NAME CHANGE, HER LAST SINGLE TO APPEAR ON WAS REFLECTIONS. MARLENE BARROW WAS AN ANDANTE NOT A MARVELETTE. THEY WERE ONLY USED AFTER FLO WAS NO LONGER A SUPREME

  • @BAREBACKER i think, historically, you are incorrect. i think there is proof somewhere that florence was not on all those early recordings, and that the andantes were used with the supremes much earlier than 1968.

  • @wonderboyjoy o .. you say ''you think' there is proof somewhere. if you do find any i'd welcome the chance to see for myself. the andantes may have been used to pad out the backing vocals on one or 2 early tracks but were never used instead of flo. if they are on any early tracks it would have been in addition to flo and mary. later on they were often used instead of mary and cindy. in the early days even diana did backing vocals (recorded separatly of course) and then mixed to the main vocal

  • @BAREBACKER i said 'i think' because i do remember reading about it some time ago. you could be right. florence may have been on all the early recordings as well as the andantes. but, given her form, you never know. she is definitely on this one! no hatred or malice intended. have a good day.

  • @wonderboyjo Thanks for your reply. i do know that marlene barrow stood in for flo when she missed shows but the full true history is a bit hazy with so many different stories. still at least they left us with some cracking songs. best wishes.:)

  • @BAREBACKER cheers

  • @wonderboyjoy hey thanks for sharing the video! awesome. funny though cos it looks like flo and diana have microphones yet mary has just the stand in front of her?? also to hear flo ovepower diana look on here for the clip from the sammy davis show when the supremes and the andrews sisters have a sing off

  • @wonderboyjoy , The Recording of this song is recounted in The Most Detail in the Book, " A Lifetime to Get Here", Berry Gordy was Unaware that Florence had missed this recording session, When listening to the Final release, he couldn't believe it wasn't Florence singing Background, it was This Point on Motown started using additional & replacement singers on background Vocals,

  • Unfortunatly there really was no way for them to blow Diane away wiath this song, because Flo and Mary really didn't have much in the way of vocals with this song, but what they do sing is GREAT

  • Flo and Mary were some singing sisters!!!!!

  • FLO LOOKS REALLY HAPPY HERE. PROBABLY AROUND THE TIME WHEN SHE SANG LEAD ON THE SAMMY DAVIS JR. SHOW.

  • Silly Miss Kurt, Living in Her " World of Distorted Reality", Being that Miss Mary & Cindy have Been Free of 'The EVIL" Berry Gordy for over 30 Years, Why as No One else Discovered their ENDLESS POTENTIAL?, Living with a Head Injury can be difficult Kurt, but you Need to Take Your Meds!

  • You can't tell anything from this video other than shitty audio.

  • Diana with that big voice, and chirisma, its no wonder she is the star

  • @wreepeet Thank you ,a lot of haters out there but Diana was intent on being a superstar

  • @solomonmorris7 Yes you know there are haters all over this group, i hear some people say oh Mary was the prettiest, Flo did this , Diana was a whore, and so on. But i tell them they don't know what went on with the group as well as motown just going my what they read. But Diana was destined to go solo i thhink. and being the prettiest, doesn't cut it if you don't have that chrisma and talent to be out front like that , thats just my opinion thank you as well

  • @wreepeet You sound a lot like a hater yourself! As a "Ross as a solo act" fan," you fail to see the importance of the legacy of the legendary SUPREMES due to your tunnel vision with Diane. Despite Diane's major role with the trio, there would be NO "Diana" Ross without THE SUPREMES! She walked out of that group as big and as internationally famous as she ever was!

  • @kurtsupreme well, i don't mean to because i was more so trying to defend Diana because a lot of people are to this day harping on what Diana did to Mary , and Flo and so forth. but you have a point there may not be a Diana if not for the Supremes but i somehow have the feeling that Diana was destined to become the star she is and has become no matter who backed her up because of the motown writers and influence

  • @kurtsupreme well, i don't mean to because i was more so trying to defend Diana because a lot of people are to this day harping on what Diana did to Mary , and Flo and so forth. but you have a point there may not be a Diana if not for the Supremes but i somehow have the feeling that Diana was destined to become the star she is and has become no matter who backed her up because of the motown writers and influence i really can't see how that sound like a hater

  • @wreepeet The magic of THE SUPREMES was most prominent with Flo, Mary, and Diane. When Flo left and Cindy joined the group, it was not as magical (despite kicking up the glamour factor). When Diane left the trio, THE Supremes were never as good and Diane as a solo act was never as good as the original trio of THE SUPREMES. Your obsession with Diane as a solo act and your revisionist outlook on the legendary trio makes you sound like a hater by diminishing the other 2 ladies of THE SUPREMES.

  • @kurtsupreme no no kurt you're are missing my whole point about this, this is why they say that when you come into a conversation in the middle of it is like coming into a movie half way into the picture , in order to really get my point you have to go back a few weeks to see how i came to my cmments about this group so im gonna leave it at that .......Im not obsessed with Diana but she still sells out everywhere and anytime she performs anywhere around the globe

  • @wreepeet Don't Waste your time on Miss Kurt, she was a Breech Baby, (Fell on Her Head During the Delivery too), The poor Dear has No Idea what she's saying, When I told her 'The Supremes" Never even sang on Songs like Love Child or Someday We'll be Together, she had a Seizure, as Good a Singer as Miss Flo was, Poor Miss Kurt continues to believe Miss Mary actually had some sort of Talent! (can you Imagine!) LOL!!!!!

  • @TheReturnOfBigBear I hear you Bear , i saw Mary running around on stage on PBS like a chicken with its head cut off............ You're right ! Miss kurt sunds like she came out feet first and fell to the floor and bumped her big head Poor thing probably has a titanium plate covering that pea size brain as a result .....

  • @TheReturnOfBigBear credit where credit is due Bear. mary had talent...it just wasn't singing.

  • @wreepeet well kurt believes she does not sell out. but then go to videos of her recent concerts. they have been getting rave reviews (and not just from the fans, but from music critics too). then go and see mary singing the supremes songs in her recent concerts at local pubs. no comparison. diana WAS the supremes.

  • @kurtsupreme Diane does NOT sell out everywhere she performs. She does better in europe than here. There, she plays the larger venues. Here, she plays small theatres and casinos. The only time that she plays the larger venues (Vegas, New York) is when she can pull the gays from the large cities in). She recently cancelled a booking in Caliufornia because it only sold 400 tickets. Diane plays the same places that Bobby Vinton and Kenny Rodgers play. She does not always sell out!.

  • @kurtsupreme uhhh Kurt, where Exactly is "Caliufornia?" is that where Mary Wilson concerts are held serving pig feet and draft beer..like a State Fair? just asking..

  • come on Kurt! they had been making hits for 3-4 straight full on years. no group can maintain the hit making that the girls did. they had a lull in 67-68 but they did have hits that made the top 40 and of course diana bounced them back in 68 with Love Child and then in 69 with Someday. But you know all that, you just choose to downplay the group with diana as lead. you are the revisionist.

  • @wonderboyjoy and of course, don't forget that the supremes did not write their own music nor play music. they had to rely on someone else coming up with the songs. they were not like tha beatles or the rolling stones who could come up with their own songs at their own pace. the supremes writers were also writing for others. of course, you know this too but choose to blame everything on diana. diana was under a lot of stress waiting for those songs to come. mary looked pretty though.

  • @wonderboyjoy What are you talking about? I have NEVER downplayed the group with Diane as lead. The pinnacle of Diane's career was when she was in THE SUPREMES with Flo and Mary. If anything, I downplay Diane's solo career.........................to me, much ado about nothing!

  • @kurtsupreme but why?? why downplay diana?? are you still childishly mad that diana left the supremes?? what is your reason?? diana's solo career, after all that time in the public eye, was good. she was constantly competing against 'newbies' and often won out. diana's solo career was successful. first woman to have 5 number one solo songs, movies, concerts, fashion, etc etc..hardly a failure. i just don't understand your need to downplay it. is it personal or something?

  • @wonderboyjoy did you know her personally and she hurt you in some way? did the supremes stop in1967? no. they had more hits. did diana stop in 1967. no. florence was ousted from the group. that's historically correct. nothing much else is. its a shame you stopped enjoying the music way back in 1967. the girls, including diana, have done wonderful things since then. anyway, no hatred is directed towards you from me. enjoy the early supremes, as we all do. we just got more bang for our bucks.

  • @wonderboyjoy No one has promoted the legend of THE SUPREMES since Diane left. Berry Gordy has only been interested in Diane and Smokey's legacy. The three of them act as though they were solely responsible for Motown and its success. I didn't like the way things came down during the last days of The Supremes with Florence and I started to dislike Diane shorltly after. Berry stuffed Diane down our throats at the expense of Mary and CIndy. The Supremes were just a better act than Diane as a solo

  • @solomonmorris7 You know right, every group has a superstar and Diana was that star so true what said too.

  • did mary even have a mic??? look at 0:42

  • at 0:66

  • What's up with the 666????

  • @idis1abad Thats what I was thinking haha

  • Miss Mary is no more than a Hand Clapper, with an Overbite & Bad Attitude, I Love Most of The "Ladies" of Motown, Not the Sleezy Party Girls.

Mizz Foxy is a Skank, Skank, Skank

  • Long Live Mary Wilson

  • The CRuella De Ross Deciple can do nothing else, but put shit on all the Motown Ladies,Bigassbear Canadian Bacon ,pretending he knows something about the Supremes...BigFat Ass Bear liar liar liar

  • Diana Ross a Cow?, Guess that makes Mary Wilson a Pig, What did you ever do for Flo Ballard?, Diana was the ONLY Supreme to even attempt to help Flo when she was in trouble, Not to mention Diana bailed out Miss Mary's No Talent Ass back in 1982, she was Bankrupt & about to be Homeless

  • what if flo coudve reached her true potential what a lady what a voice diane ross was a cow

  • Ooowww Babe!! Today's kids auditioning for American Idol should check out film like this on how to perform before an audience. C'mon, Next Generation. Impress the %$#@ out of your elders.

  • This was the Supremes at their pure best.

  • i dnt think there tying to out blow her, wus jus natural

  • What's up with that picture at the beginning?

  • Oh man How I love this song. The supremes may be soul but they sure friggin rock

  • The song "Dreaming of You" by the Coral is a direct rip-off of this song. Still good, though.

  • they are all vocally talented. but diana's voice is candy to the ears..she has such a unique voice and beautiful unique sounds come from it.

  • @chynaeyez I agree with you Diana has the unique sound that i think that made the supremes a very recognizable group

  • @chynaeyez I agree with you Diana has the unique sound that i think that made the supremes a very recognizable group. Thats why later on started being announced diana ross and the supremes

  • takes me back to my teens in the early 70s

  • Diana always cracks me up in these '60s clips where she tries to pull off the lead-singer nightclub stage "twist" gesture at the end and almost looks like she's going to fall over. ;) You could hear her mic pop like a plunger when she lifted it out of her stand!

  • Damn Diana, you blockin the hell outta Flo at 2:08..But Flo and Mary were killin Diana vocally on this one!

  • luv the song but a little blurry good video though

  • Whether people like it or not, back in the early 60's when we first heard Supremes records on the radio for the first time, it was DIANA's voice which made the 'sound' as far as we were concerned. It was unique to us. All these people saying 'Flo should have been lead singer' etc are very shortsighted. Diana's voice sold the records, certainly as far as the UK was concerned. Its wasn't about 'giving Flo a chance' , it was about keeping to the formula and selling records !

  • @ipolson I was around when this record and all their others were brand new and I never felt that way. Florence and Mary were the powerhouse vocalists in the group. Diane had a unique sound for sure, but never unique enough to make us forget about the other two gorgeous, talent ladies!

  • @DetroitLives313: I was speaking wih regard to England !. We did not know who these people were (Supremes, Stevie Wonder etc), there was no 'music stations' in the UK. 'Where Did our Love Go' sold purely on being played on Radio Luxembourg and eventually the pirate radio stations (where I first heard it). Of course, they were all talented vocalists, but there is a lot of dissing Diana on here, and all I was saying was that she was what we heard coming over the radio, she was very important.

  • @ipolson Well that's your story. I am from Detroit and we know true talent. Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard ALSO had the goods! Any one of the three could have done a great job as lead singer since all three were lead singers. A lot of the dissing of Diana as you put it could actually be deserved? Ever thought about that?

  • @DetroitLives313 : What a strange comment. The massive sales with Diana as lead say it all. No more comment necessary

  • @ipolson and they were all paid equally. The massives sales can be attributed mostly to Holland Dozier Holland's production and writing work, along with Motown's excellent promotional dept.

  • @DetroitLives313: I dont disagree with you. All I am saying is that when we first heard them in the UK, it was Diana's voice which represented their 'sound' to us, and her voice was very distinctive, we had never heard anyone sound like that.

When we finally got to see them on TV, the focus was on her (as it was with Jagger in the Stones), rightly or wrongly. Dont get me wrong, I love 'The Supremes' not just Diana. Yes, great songs, but also you have to give some credit to the performers.

  • @ipolson Then give it to all the performers. They were a group. Here in the US we bought them as a group, a package. As a guy, I'll be honest to say my focus was on Mary as she was and is the sexy one. Florence was stacked so visually they were the ones we looked at even with Diana singing the lead lyrics. It's all call and response so to us all parts were important to the sound.

  • @ipolson Bowing . Thank you stating it was the uniqueness of Diana's voice that we heard on the radio. Transistor radio at that. even before stereo..We heard the Supremes on Hi Fi. mono..Diana voice was something We the listening public had never heard before. It was neither Black or White it was a. mixture. of Pop R&B.Mary and Flo were both Great singers. All were Tried on Lead. Crossover was the key. Diana's voice was not Soul. it did not Have to be. it was a Sound, neither black, nor white.

  • @blkshepherd You go on with your bad self comment. You hit it on the head!!

  • @blkshepherd spot on. the girls could all sing. diana was pop at its best. she did not have to be soul. there were other groups doing that. when they tried to copy the sound of others it did not work.

  • @blkshepherd I could NOT have stated it any better than you did!

  • @MrPistolMason I hope you are going to see Diana. she is coming to atlanta in march. i got my tickets she is selling out so fast i was lucky and damn near didnt get a ticket one week after they went on sale

  • This performance was so much better than the one on the Ed Sullivan Show, where Mary and Florence not only didn't have mikes, but kind of stood quite a bit back from where Diana stood.... Though really, this song is kind of sad; the effect is kind of ruined by Diana's relentless mugging and smiling...

  • JUST WANNA GIVE MY 2 CENTS! 1. Yes Flo's voice is the stronger one and would have been better in the lead.....but i don't know if we would have had ..."The Supremes" ....not as big as they were! They Needed Diana's softer sound to cross over into POP music territory!

2.I wish Barry Gordy (his shady self) would have given Flo...& Mary a chance to sing lead...or even share lead with Diana!

Anyway thats my 2 cents ...i love them amazing there will never be another!

  • I just like this vid cause Flo tanked up the vocals and you get a taste of what the song would have been like if she had been singing lead - note how Diana runs and stands in front of Flo at the end of the performance to block her from the view of the camera - was this the beginning of the end?

  • @Chutson353 Yeah I noticed she did that too. She was always intimidated by Florence.

  • I don't think Flo and Mary are trying to "out do" Diana but they're just singing. It is a rarity for all three members to be live in the fashion as usually Diana is the only one with the mic or Flo and Mary's mics are turned down, especially Flo's. Though it is clear that all three got something to give. Miss you much Flo!

  • I love this too--and you know Berry Gordy chewed someone's ass after the show for having Flo and Mary's mics up too high! LOL

  • Fascinating version of the classic track. It's true you really can hear Mary and Flo trying to "out do" Diana. It doesn't serve the song unfortunately and neither one of them was quite meant to be a lead singer. Fantastic harmony, which is underrated, but still not the right style for lead.

  • I guess, in the studio, they turned down the volume on Florence and Mary's vocals, so as to highlight Diana's, but in this live performance, probably had less control over the sound output. (That's probably why many of their Ed Sullivan performances were lipsynched.) I actually read somewhere that they made Florence stand seventeen feet away from the mic when she sang in the studio, since her voice was so huge. It's a shame they didn't capitalize on her great voice more than they did.

  • I love this performance but I don't think that Mary and Flo are trying to blow Diana away though. Diana sang this really good though

  • Diana runs infront of Flo at 2:09/2:42 and check Mary shes puzzeld for a minute NOT PLANNED.

  • Like most fans here, I have to agree that the "original members" of the Supremes were just magic. All of the members from the Supremes name late 60's-70's were all talented...again, Flo, Mary and Diana were just one of a kind when they performed together.

  • well i came back to reply to simple ass babyblue, but i see she or he already had their comments deleted

  • let it go.please,i work at the motown museum,im friends with a lot of former artist that still live here...ie...martha reeves abdul fakir...etc.diana may have been a little messy, but she was the talented one ..lets see...florence ballard and the supremes,i think not.........florence and mary were background singers..did marys career take off when she went solo?NOPEwas ross responsible for that too

  • @daylamont If I ever get to Detroit to see the Motown Museum, it better be redone to accurately reflect the role that THE SUPREMES (not Diane) played in the history and success of Motown Records. If I go there and it's all about Diane, a lot of people are going to be TOLD OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i was there in march of this year, and can assure you its not like that...its about the role that Berry Gordy played in creating Motown and all the great artists associated with the label..its a great experience which I would recommend to any Motown fan...the studio alone is amazing..its like going back in time @kurtsupreme

  • @kurtsupreme That's RIGHT HONEY! The Supremes were A UNIT!

  • @daylamont You are 60 years old and were there when THE SUPREMES were America's sweethearts. You also watched as Berry Gordy moved Diane out front and sacrificed the trio for her solo career. What in the name of God are you talking about saying that "Diane was a bit messy, but she was the talented one? Who cares? The SUPREMES were the legends. Diane is still forced to bow before their legacy...............depite the fact that it practically KILLS her to do so!

  • @kurtsupreme kurt,i dont understand this fixation that florence ballard was the more talented one yes flo was beautiful, and moderately talented but diana was the one who stood out we dont put this much emphasis on any other motown artist, love her,or hate her it is what it is,history cannot be changed,we can discuss this forever, like it or not,and no the museum is not all about ross, its a great expierience,i hope one day you get the chance to see it for yourself

  • @daylamont I have TWO point and I'm sticking to them: 1)The legend of the SUPREMES is greater than the sum of its individual parts! Flo, Mary, DIANE, Berry, The Funk Brothers, Cholley Adkins, Maxine Powell, etc. are ALL merely individual parts and 2) it was THE SUPREMES that made Motown. They should not filed or represented on the alphabetical list of Motown artists under the letter "s." They should always be front and center at the top..........above Michael Jackson AND Diane!!!!!

  • TOP, TOP, TOP.

These three girls were the TOP in every sense of the word.

It took all three to make it work.

  • @BotMai exactly. the supremes were a team effort. had mary or flo been given the special attention that diana received from berry gordy who knows how far they could have gone.? true diana did work very hard to reach the top but she had a lot of support from berry gordy

  • BY THE WAY >>>DIANA IS CURRENTLY SINGING THIS SONG>>on a National Tour and she IS BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE>.moving around like she is in this video..Inspite of all the haters..SHE is STILL giving a SUPREME PERFORMANCE. that is one part she will always be. mary as well. they wil Always be The Supremes..even if one is dead and the other two never sing together on stage again..Diana and Mary are still The Supremes..as its still Two originals.

  • The Supremes started out as a quartet known as the Primettes. In 1959 two fifteen year olds, Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson, met at a talent show. Milton Jenkins, who managed a local doo wop group the Primes, wanted a sister group to accompany the Primes for stage performances. Jenkins asked Ballard to put together such an act. Ballard remembered Wilson and the two of them brought in sixteen year old Betty Travis. Diane was then asked to join. They were called the Primettes.

  • @supremebuddy True. but diane knew Smokey Robinson who knew Berry Gordy. Diane Asked Smokey to audition her group(as he didnt know mary flo or betty) he Knew she had a special voice way back when she was 11. had Smokey not audition them for Berry. they would have been just like Any other female group.especially with Flo in the lead. Flo was Never the lead singer. not even in the Primettes.she assumed the position because she had the idea of a group.they needed Diane. who knew Smokey. sorry

  • Travis was forced to quit the Primettes because her parents wanted her to pay more attention to her studies. Barbara Martin took her place, but had to leave shortly, as did Ballard, under the same parental conditions. Wilson and Ross continued to work as duo until the two improved their grades and were allowed to rejoin.

  • you know its sickening that some of you idiots are still writing such disparaging remarks about diana ross goddammit let it go truth is you weren't there so you dont know what happenned, and the bottom line is there would have been no supremes or motown without ross, whatever she was.flo sabotaged her own career.get over it dam

  • Comment removed

  • @babybluemusic426 NO YOUR WRONG. Flo did NOT find the group. it was found by 4girls..flo ballard mary wilson diane ross and betty mcglowen..NO one person found the group..flo was Never the lead singer. she helped start the group. so get your fact strait.

  • Comment removed

  • @babybluemusic426 She Did not FIND the group. YOU NEED TO LEARN YOU FACTS ..and I aint your honey. You seem to KEEP forgetting had Diane not know Smokey there would have Been NO Supremes..the name belonged to Motown not Flo. who was given a List of names to choose. she chose it because it was Different. You also FLO was the one that did not Want to go to Motown because she felt Motown cheated their artists..had it left to FLO..they would Never had met Berry..who MADE THE SUPREMES.

  • Comment removed

  • @babybluemusic426 u so full shit I can smell it all the way here in my city..I dont give a damn what you say DIANA ROSS IS THE SUPREMES and she PROVEs that NOW MORE THAN EVER> MARY WILSON CAN NOT HAVE NEVER PACKED A HOUSE LIKE DIANA IS STILL DOING. MARY HAD 30yrs to PROVE HERSELF AND SHE HAS FAILED>>GET OVER YOURSELF> DIANA IS AND ALWAYS WAS THE SUPREMES OTHER WISE AUDIENCES OVER THE WORLD WOULD NOT STILL BE FLOCKING TO SEE HER. YOUR DISMISSED

  • @babybluemusic426 YOU CANT STAND THE FACT THAT DIANA IS DOING SO WELL WITHOUT MARY OR THE SUPREMES. AND IF U DONT BELIEVE IT..GOOGLE DIANA ROSS ON TOUR..SHE IS GETTING RAVE REVIEWS..NO ONE IS EVEN MENTIONING THE SUPREMES OR MARY WILSON SO THERE . LOL LOL AH HA HA HA HEE HEE...folks are not talking about what went on YEARS ago and could care LESS. LIKE I SAID HAD DIANE NOT KNOWN SMOKEY THE SUPREMEs would HAVE BEEN NOBODIES!

  • @daylamont You are so right and that is the REASON diana Ross is still performing sounding and looking great. If not for the diana voice who smokey KNew was good..took her to berry who also heard something different. and the rest is history..Flo was not the Main person responsible for the huge success of the Supremes..like u said a bunch of idiots and most these fools werent even born when the supremes was in their hey day.

  • Notice how Diana Ross picks up the microphone and goes and stands in front of Florence Ballard blocking her out.

  • heheh what´s up with that 666? he?

  • Love this performance bc u can hear flo, i really really wish her voice had been heard alot more...

  • @pinkcookie1969 that would have been stupid..flo really caused her own downfall.

  • I stumbled on to this video and comments and I can only verfiy that Mary and Flo could have blown Diana off the stage given the mikes. You dont have to be a music professor to recognize that. The truth is TODAY Diana and Mary play alot of the same venues and they are usually full ...(Marys show are famous and Diane has probably milked where she going to in Irish Cream.

  • @bigtownguy so true! They (Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard) would have vocally murdered her!

  • Oh, my gosh! I completely forgot about this song! I used to hear it all the time on oldie stations. It makes me think about those times and my mom(cuz she loves oldies)...This makes me wanna watch all sorts of old school stuff now...*

  • a live track and the mix is way off

but very neet that it is live and NOT LIPSYNKED... live and raw .. where all voices are heard . it is a trio

  • Diane(a) really has something as the lead singer , like in Baby Come See About Me, I can understand how she "held" the attention.

  • @seanpierpont these bi polar supremes fans still harping on mary and flo. diane Held Our attention and yes it was her voice that made the songs no.1 as proven with Someday and Love child without mary flo or cindy NO Supremes and it still was a no.1 why? because the public Loved dianes voice. not because of mary or flo who wasnt on none of the no.1 songs diane had when she went solo. so she didnt need the supremes to get a no.1 funny no no.1s after she left.

  • Bullshit! The public loved "Stoned Love" too! Diane's voice wasn't on it, maybe that's why we loved it.

  • @DetroitLives313 Ha ha, nice one I like your comment, totally agree with you. lol

  • @blkshepherd Bull, I do not care for Ross, so do not put me in the so called WE LOVE ROSS GROUP, I love the Supremes for Flo, Mary,Barbara, Cindy, Jean and Scherrie and that is it, I will not be brainwashed into liking Ross, I never followed her solo career and loved the day when Jean came into the group at last they became a proper group again where we could see all three girls on screen, xxxx

  • @pinkcookie1969 I agree with you pinkcookie. I am not a Diane Ross fan, but loved the Supremes as a group. Diane was good for a while in the GROUP.

  • :@blkshepherd: CLOWN!!, Someday and Love Child DID have Mary and Cindy singing on the actual record!!!!!, Why do do they had to perform it TOGETHER as a trio?!!!!.

  • her voice really is nice to listen to. she wasn't bad at all. she just didn't have that big voice that always gets major applause(like the other two in the group). I love 'Reflections'...*

  • They were really something all three

Diana Ross, FLorence Ballard and Mary Wilson

    They all just worked together

I don't think any of them have forgotten the days when they were standing on stage and facing the world together and Florence would say

"Honey we IS terrific" before walking out on stage

  • I wish you guys wouldn't reduce the dialogue on this blog to name calling and profanity, because it's grotesque, unnessecary and childish.

Someone made an interesting point on here. DraTS hits have lasted 40 years unlike the hits of today that usually dry up after 1 or 2 years. Destiny's Who? En Vogue Who?

Why is it like that today where we think of pop music as so disposable?

  • @BlogShag Don't say Destiny's Who? Beyonce is one of the most succesful female artists of ALL time, DC are one of the most successful girl-groups of all time ALSO, Kelly Rowland has sold millions as a solo artist, LeToya has had two U.S. #1 R&B albums and one U.S. #1 album, Michelle Williams had the biggest selling gospel album of 2002 charting at #1 on that chart and then #2 with her second album. She managed to break into the Pop world too with her third album Unexpected

  • @BlogShag I love The Supremes but it's not fair to use them to ignore the great achievements of others. In fact you should praise DC for being a group in which 4 members (of the 6 in total) have successful, ongoing solo careers.

  • maybe they were waiting to go on stage and flo was like ooo I need to go on toilet and ran into the engineering room and turner her mic on the mixer up :D

or there were stickers on it on one written mary on the other flo and on the last one diane and she changed her sticker with diane's and they turned "diane" up xD

  • Uhh! HORRIBLE QUALITY!

  • THIS is exactly why I love the Supremes! Not only the incomparable Diana with some random backing singers, but with the full blown earthy soul of Florence and the very typical sweet Motown voice of Mary - it shows why they weren't named "the Supreme + 2" as some people seem to think they are, but the Supremes!
