This song is actually about a nightmare that Jon Lord had. This album is amazing! Honestly one of my favourite Deep Purple albums. Also love 'April' from this album. Plus the artwork is from a trippy surrealist painting by Hieronymus Bosch called 'The Garden of Earthly Delights'. This album cover is the 'hell' section of the painting. Check it out!
The sleeve notes said that this was inspired by nightmares that one of the band had as a kid. The drums are three tracks overlaid. And Nick Simper's bassline is stunning.
GREAT album...summer of '69 was first time I heard this. I was under the influence of a certain popular chemical. One of the most overlooked albums in rock history.
I love this song but what the hell were they talkin bout? I know they were highwriting this but it fills my mind with images. So, I guess I got my own interptation. I guess its a lot of metophors too.
I really like this video you put together. This is my favorite Mark1 track. Is there any way to get a higher quality version? Say in DIVX or Mpeg2 format?

Yeah, i love this song. Evans does a great job on vocals. Mysterious!!! I'd've loved to heard Gillan and Mark 2 do this live.
