It may be very efficient this iwth patch. But does the scar for the closure of the skin has to end up looking aesthetically horrendous? Also, how long has to pass until the patient can work out that area without pain or discomfort? My op was on April 2009 and doing abs still as uncomfortable as 2 years ago and there still some odd discomfort on my scar area. Basically my abdomen's lower muscles are not that responsive and the skin went very saggy :'-( More after care advise is def need it.
I'm about to be repaired of this, I'm scared as hell!!!!, so this patch disolves within the body? or am I going to carry that patch inside of me for the rest of my life? also I'm so scared about the 'spinal anesthesia', some people told me it was dangerous, is it? Thanks in advance! I'm so scared xD
@djmigra ok, im due to have this same proceedure in a few weeks, the obvious question is...............how are you? did the operation go ok and did you have much pain after? after having had 5 lumbar punctures i am def going for general anesthetic!!!
@paddyrathmines I'm fine now, surgery was about a month ago, the spinal anesthesia doesn't hurt anything! it's just people who freaks you out, but you don't even tell about the 'picky' until you don't feel your legs, so don't worry about the anesthesia, the pain starts until the next day but it's that painful, you just need to be careful and follow doctor instructions and diet, best of lucks! don't worry you'll be ok
@djmigra One last thing, what made suffer most after the surgery was constipation (?), I couldnt poop dude! that's really a hell! I had to go to emergency for a check up and medication so I can poop! XD so you ask the doctor about that before you leave the hospital so it don't took you by surprise!
Just had this done two weeks ago. So glad that I did. It is worth it. I don't have any abdominal pain for the first time in years. Only regret is that I didn't have it sooner.
@TheMistermuppet When I was in the recovery room they gave me morphine and fentanyl through the IV. I remember getting several shots of that while I was there.
Once I got back to my room they gave me a pill of percocet. and that's also what the dr gave me to take at home. I was also allowed to take advil or motrine inbetween doses of the percocet
@nomadrider04 The area is most likely injected with a lidocaine/epinephrine solution which constricts blood vessels preventing any noticeable bleeding.
Ill be finding out this week. Doc says will be incision and some kind of patch. 3 inch cut. Im trying to be optomistic. Having to deal with recup time. Doc says this is birth defect just took time to open up. It sucks getting older and trying to do all the healthy things to prevent. Just sucks. Id love to take a canoe and just drift off out into the sea.

I am sorry but this was a very badly performed surgery. First of all there is no need to put the vetral patch as it is too expensive and yes there is justification if this were to be placed intraperitoneally because one is unable to create satisfactory preperitoneal space. The defect was no more than a cm or so and you weakened it by widening the ring. If you must put a mesh in preperitoneal space then use PHS or UHSov where the connector remains in the hernia ring. and remove outer part.
The VA surgeon told us that this patch won't hold as well as the traditional internal stitches. They said that the likelihood of a re-tear is greater iwth this patch. My husband (a retired vet) is having this surgery and we requested this patch. Any suggestions???
DONT WATCH THIS IF YOUR GOING TO HAVE THE SURGERY SOON!

@nomadrider04 They use scalpels now with a small lazer attatched that cotorizes (spelling) the incision as it is made. Very little bleeding.
