I'm in love with Ryan... honestly... A voice is the single sexiest thing a guy can have. It makes me melt honestly his voice is like Ryan Dan and Josh Groban had a gorgeous baby who is a god.
@Katjive A version of Africa from 2003 is on the Clef's "Breeze" CD. Take a look at w w w (dot) clefhangers (dot) c o m under 'Albums'. I THINK you can still buy/order Breeze... Beyond that, it MIGHT make it onto a future CD because it is SUCH a tradition and trademark song for the guys, but who knows if/when... By the way, special Clefs Christmas CD coming out this Fall and their next regular CD due out in April 2011!
This is the best version of Africa. In the past I was sure I had seen a Clef Hanger performance of Awimaway (The Lion Sleeps Tonight). Is it still on YouTube, or am I mistaken?
this is so amazing! definitely one of my favorite a cappella covers, and the clef hangers do an AMAZING job!! id love for them to come sing with my college a cappella group!!!
I think David really did a great job here. That high part is an unbelievable gut-buster for a male singer that isn't resorting to falsetto. In other versions of this song on youtube, he was really fighting the part. Here, I think he nailed it. Oh, and I think Ryan's lead solo is the best of all the videos too, though that might have a bit to do with the tremendous audio quality of this video.
@dcnole 2:58 was about the breaking point for him. I can't blame him, singing that part would make me double over in pain. He had to use falsetto for the rest of that chorus, I can't blame him.
@TheGarandGuy It's still a difficult song to sing and I am all for playing around with keys. Look at what they did for "if your out there to allow Andrew Simpson, a bass, to sing it. Personally, I am a John Legend fan and I still prefer that key. Furthermore, Ryan has a true full round baritone, he sounds better in the lower part of his range. So you drop the key down not because someone is inadequate, you do it to better fit the voices you have. It isnt just about david, all benefit
Thanks again, Clefhanger fan, for another updated great Clefs Africa cover! For those interested in another look at Toto's "Africa" check out the YouTube of the Slovinian jazz choir Perpetuum Jazzile's interpretation.

The harmonies on the chorus are exquisite. Sounds like one voice in three chords. Great performance.

@bafrank3poc It isn't something they've done in the last 5 years, but there might be an old video somewhere of them doing it from a long time ago.

@dcnole David only found it easier because they're sining in a different key to previous versions so it is lower for him to sing.

@dcnole He nailed it here because they sung it lower than they normally do....

Soloist is too shout-y, I think especially on the chorus. Other than that, the performance and the whole arrangement of the song is good.
