  • Your data is based on one poll and for the record, opinion polls are notorious for being worded in such a way that a certain desired outcome can be made even before the poll is conducted.

I personally know Evangelical Christians -- who have never participated in a Gallup poll -- that voted FOR Obama. I also know Jews who did not vote for him.

Presidential voting does not necessarily follow any religious lines.

  • Well go back and look at the electoral map and compare it to religious concentrations.

    Utah(Mormons) voted McCain 63-34.

And theBible Belt South (Protestants) also voted McCain, Alabama, for example voted 61-39 McCain.

This approval poll simply reflects reality.

  • You still Can't say that people vote "based" on their religious beliefs.

We will never know how "every" person in this nation voted, what he or she based their votes on, or what religious group (if any) they are associated with. And to make such a jump in conclusion is pure arrogance on your part.

  • People don't vote based on their religious beliefs?

    Are you kidding me?

    The Moral Majority,Christian Conservatives,Abortion,Gays,School Prayer,Creationism,etc.

You need to open your eyes.Maybe religion isn't the only determining factor, but to plenty of people it is the main factor, especially to those on the Right.

  • I understand what you are saying, but now have to ask you these follow-up questions:

    1. Why make a big deal about people voting according to their belief system?

    2. What do you think of people who show anger and hate to individuals 'because' they vote based on religious beliefs?

  • I can appreciate the intellectual curiosity at work here, but the idea of classifying political beliefs along with religious beliefs makes me uncomfortable.

  • This poll speaks volumes.

Glenn Beck, a Mormon and Southern Baptist, woohoo!

Oh yeah, nothing to do with Racism.wink,wink.

  • Vocing our opinons "used to be called "FREE SPEECH", In my mind, only those who 'claim' to be adults, but scream "racism" when someone criticizes Obama's plans are just immature children.

Health care reform is going to affect the REST OF MY LIFE AND THAT OF MY CHILDREN -- IF I DO NOT LIKE WHAT THE GOVERNMENT IS DOING I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO SPEAK OUT AGAINST IT. AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HIS RACE, I COULD CARE LESS WHAT HIS ANCESTRAL LINES ARE, LET'S STAY FOCUSED ON THE ISSUES!!!!!!!!

  • bartisahunk,

No one is saying this poll represents all Voters or all Americans' point of view. It is simply a sample of a few thousand people. But in general, polls are an extremely accurate picture of the larger population.

Everybody has the right to their opinion. Opposing Pres. Obama doesn't automatically make you a racist.

However in this particular poll, it's very clear that race plays an obvious factor.

Have you ever read the Book of Mormon?

    Do you know the South?

  • I don't understand what the Book of Mormon has to do with this discussion, but yes, I have read it -- My grandmother was Mormon

As for the South, I lived in Alabama for a few years. You want to talk about racism, in some of the neighborhoods if you weren't Black/African-American you were treated like crap.

I guess it was premature of me to speak about a poll that I have never actually read or seen. The thing that sparked my nerves is the "racism card" that is being played by some on the Left.

  • watch?v=1FRHN8rtPnA

If you've read Mormon Doctrine ,then you know how they view people of color. Don't you think that might have something to do with there feelings about Obama?

I'm not saying Blacks can't be Racist too.

But the only reason I made my initial comment was because of how the results of this Specific poll turned out, nothing else.

But look at the exit polling from the election.

Look at the States that Obama lost hands down. To ignore the race/religious factor is naive.

  • #1 Right, that is why Mormon's send their Missioniaries to Africa -- because they have a problem with people of color. It also shows when Mormon missionaries go to the South Pacific, Middle East, and so on.

Finally, because you see opinion polls in a different way than I, what do you think of this one?

PATRIOT POLL: Do you TRUST Barack Hussein Obama to be your President? (not sure when it was conducted, but it was asked of members of our military)

    Yes = 12%

    Not Sure = 5%

    No = 83%

  • I found a similar poll on FoxNews and the Army times websites. Google "Military polls on Obama."

    From the article:

"More than half of active-duty U.S. service members feel uncertain or pessimistic about President-elect Obama as commander in chief, according to a Military Times survey.

Six out of 10 Americans in uniform are concerned about Obama's lack of military experience

Nearly half of the respondents described their political views as conservative or very conservative"

  • What? So sending missionaries proves they're not racist?

"...cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing...the Lord God did cause a skin of BLACKNESS to come upon them (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 5:21)"

"And the skins..were DARK,according to the MARK which was set upon their fathers..which WAS A CURSE upon them...(Book of Mormon,Alma 3:6)"

"and the CURSING which hath come upon their skins...(Book of Mormon, Jacob 3:5)"

Joseph Smith and Brigham Young were racist charlatans.

  • Barrack has only one thing to live up to, see in some changes. ...which is genius, because change is going to happen, for the better or worse, wether you want it or not.

I think his plan is to uphold the divide between government and any kind of zealot trying to influence it as well as run a tight administration.

Best thing to happen to politics since how everyone saw Bill Clinton before getting caught being a naughty boy.

But who cares, this athiest lives over the pond.

  • Hardly surprising. Atheism and intelligence go hand in hand, generally, and religion and racism aren't too far behind each other either.

  • Not surprising, those who attend church frequently are generally more conservative, and who goes to church less than an Atheist?

  • I don't have a religion, and I approve of Obama, so yeah...
