LOVE these kind of commercials. It makes me happy to be an American again goin through the years of Chevy's. Also shows how much pride we have in our country when these kind of commercials come on.
whats the commercial where it shows the running through the years, starting at a 50s chevy pickup, and ending with a new silverado??? i cant remember what year it was, but it was within a few years ago...i like that commercial, and i want to see it again
Gee, imagine how much money they would make if they at the very least made new cars that look Exactly like the old, not a new version of the old like the dodge challenger, but actual old body styles and work their way back up to now.
On principle, it would be the decent thing for Chevrolet to acknowledge the ad was inspired by the blog, Dear,Photograph. For the blog to be as popularly noted at the time this ad was made is not mere coincidence. It's a terrific concept, taking a technique that's been around for quite some time and using it to evoke a specifically emotional response. It's what makes the blog so popular and what makes this commercial good. It wouldn't hurt them to acknowledge their inspiration for the ad.
I don't see how they can compare the great looking and lasting Chevrolet's of the years up to the 60's to the plastic cookie cutter look alike over priced cars ??? of today. Sure glad our car buying days are over.
Not picking on Chevrolet because all cars look alike and are ugly at best. Have NO design like the cars of old, no "charm " and class. A dark time for cars of all makes, never thought I would see the day, Lord give me a Model A.
@joephilippon Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! I didn't see any evidence of the ad agency calling the concept their own. Ad executives don't have to have all the good ideas, they just need to recognize them when they see them. Good advertisement.
Check out what Gustavo Germano did with families of the 'disappeared' in Argentina....something similar but way before this commercial and Dear Photograph and with much more sentimental significance. Amazing and sad at the same time...
There is a difference between Dear Photograph and Michael Hughes. There is NO difference between this and Dear Photograph. Oh wait, yes there is; the ad agency for this got thousands of dollars
Ppl r talking about how chevy stole the commercial idea? Well they stole the ford mustang and made the crapero(or u might call it a camero) the f150 and made the suckyrado(u mute call silverado) and stole toooons of different things on the inside of Fords
@HSetOSCAR Nice say from someone who clearly doesn't respect himself, of course, you haven't had any great idea in your life so what do you care about credit. Looser.
Love the commercial, but why is Chevy trying to hide the late 70's thru mid 00's? Why no Vegas, Citations, Cavaliers, Chevettes, S-Series, Astros, Celebrities, Luminas, Berretas? They are as much as Chevrolet as Camaros, Chevelles, Bel-Airs and Impalas....
PEOPLE, stop gettin your feelings hurt because Chevy's commercial was inspired by something else. Seriously, you sound like a bunch of little girls. You are exactly what is taking America down the drain nowadays, bunch of oversensitive whiners.
chevy needs to seek an ad agency that doesn't steal it's ideas from others. what the hell are they paying you all that money for? to run a google search? this has Dear Photograph" stamped all over it.
Old idea revisited and popularized in a big way by Dear Photograph. The Ad execs and their lawyers (vernacular reserved) don't have the grace to acknowledge the blog that popularized for a new generation worldwide. This would definitely fall under the backfire, WTF were we thinking, people aren't stupid pile. If they are creative they can still spin it, naaa they're not that good - assholes
If you are not creative enough to come up with the idea yourself at least have the stones to give credit to whom you stole it from...that goes for you to voice over guy Tim Allen
Foreign cars may be built better than American cars, but driving American has a pride all its own. This commercial reminds me that this country IS great and I am proud to call it my home. I'm proud to be an American.
Frickin' awesome. Just frickin' awesome. I wish our trade negotiators were forced to watch this commercial before they sat down and negotiated away the American jobs of hardworking American autoworkers.
I hope whomever suggested and executed this at some point feels guilty for ripping off someone else's idea so entirely. Dear Photograph should consider suing. Yes, others have superimposed pictures on top of pictures before, but anything that looks JUST LIKE a recent, popular, zeitgeist-y internet art project to the point where people's first reaction is "Whoah! Did Dear Photograph sell their idea?" That's a tacky and unethical theft.
Ok...I hate all American cars with a burning passion. Go Toyota!!!....but this is by far the best and coolest car commercial I have ever seen! It is so clever! I love old cars like that...even tho it's Chevy lol well done Chevy! Happy 100th! Congrats!
It's obviously inspired by Dear Photograph. But even that was inspired by Michael Hughes. And who was Michael Hughes inspired by? It's a unique and popular idea that lacks a voice in this commercial.
At 36 seconds you see a little girl standing in front of an old Chevy. The photo was taken by Louis Jawitz, and the little girl's name is Sabra. The Chevy is parked on East 17th Street, NYC. Lou is my brother-in-law and he was a professional photographer and is now retired. The girl is now approximately 45 years old. Lou had 2 studios on East 17th St.
