This story is questionable due to him stating that his "new battalion commander" had "just graduated from West Point." Someone who just graduated would never be a battalion commander. A battalion commander is typically a Lieutenant Colonel while someone who just graduated would have been a Second Lieutenant. Sounds like a made up story by someone who doesn't really understand what they are talking about.

In WW2, if you were going to be captured by the enemy, you wanted it to be either the Americans (allies) or the Germans. Sure, both sides sometimes killed their prisoners but it was rare. However, the Russians and the Japanese killed their prisoners as a sport.

German military casualties were 5 million in the whole war in all fronts. All the German civilian casualties were arround 3.5 million. This makes 8.5 million civilians and military personell deaths in all fronts and in the whole war.

@3sharney No doubt. I think some people are taking my comments to include the Russian POW concentration camps. Those were run by the SS, not the regular German military. And those were just as bad for the Russian soldiers as the concentration camps were for Jews. There is a major distinction between the regular German soldier, who was just fighting for his country, and the SS, who were sociopaths.

This story is questionable due to him stating that his "new battalion commander" had "just graduated from West Point." Someone who just graduated would never be a battalion commander. A battalion commander is typically a Lieutenant Colonel while someone who just graduated would have been a Second Lieutenant. Sounds like a made up story by someone who doesn't really understand what they are talking about.

In WW2, if you were going to be captured by the enemy, you wanted it to be either the Americans (allies) or the Germans. Sure, both sides sometimes killed their prisoners but it was rare. However, the Russians and the Japanese killed their prisoners as a sport.

And those were just as bad for the Russian soldiers as the concentration camps were for Jews. There is a major distinction between the regular German soldier, who was just fighting for his country, and the SS, who were sociopaths.

They butchered thousands of women and children coming out from the caves in Okinawa and Saipan, surrendering to them. They executed civilians even after the war. @bess1953 Even USSR returned 90% of jap POWs a few years later. The rest of them were killed by severe slave labor in Siberia. However, there is no POWs ever succeeded to return home from the south. All of them were butchered by the kangaroo and aboriginal butchering brutal bastards of aussies.

My father was a dispatch rider in WWII with the Canadian army. He told me he carried orders many times that said, "no prisoners." Of course many times the situation allows for no prisoners, as you can not afford to have someone guard them or you are behind the lines yourself. War sucks, that's why it is evil for these chickenhawk war profiteers to push for it all the time. They want war with Iran now and the propaganda has already begun to fly.
