i am a new user of ebooks and a major noob so please answer my question kindly :D
will i be able to upload my personal books manually on to the iriver story or will i be restricted to buying my books from a certain store ... such as amazon kindle store and ibooks store? thank you
@MsMimiann The ebook reader supports these formats of books DOC, ePub, HWP, PDF, PPT, TXT, XLS, and acts as an external drive. So from what I gather, if your own book is in one of these formats, then you should be able to copy it over to the iRiver Story and read it on the device. I'm quite convinced that will work, but to be doubly sure it might be worth contacting iRiver
However good the actual reader might be (and it's not really better than the Story), the fact that you're stuck with Amazon books (and their terrible selection in the UK) is a crippling factor to consider.
Although I'm not much of a fan of eBook Readers on the whole, I can think of only one reason to by the Kindle, and that's the wifi. But as you say, you're tied to a single distributor (and I'll take your word for it that the selection is lacking on Amazon UK for eBooks).
Personally, I'd be more likely to put large numbers of books and texts onto my reader in much the same manner that I do with my MP3 player, so USB is fine anyway!
I think people rave about the Kindle because it's a fad.
I had my iriver delivered just today and trust me...I had it's firmware upgraded to 1.61 and the speed improved a little bit but the down side is that..the pdf file can't get expanded but it is still readable anyhow...
story has square buttons :)

I'm sick of people raving about the Kindle.
The Kindle is tied to Amazon! This is not good!

Story > Kindle as far as I'm concerned.
