@todoodle That's true, my old teacher was both an organist and pianist and even he said Piano could be harder to handle. At least in the dynamic area of playing.
To respond to FourFootFagott's comment, Allen's new Walt Strony Signature and Lyn Larsen series organs are even better. A personal message from Lyn Larsen himself is on the Allen Organ website.
Jazzkhd - besides being rude and uncalled for your comment is flat out wrong! I've been playing the organ for about 50+ yrs and hear nothing wrong with this guys arrangement. You go back to school, preferably Manners School.
Jazzkhd - Like I said you need to go to school, for manners as well as music theory. Apparently you have never seen a copy of Hindustan and don't understand what the composer was trying to suggest musically which is a a bit of Oriental mystery and exoticism. Everyone else on this thread seems to get it. PS - people who repeatedly mispell School shouldn't tell others to go back to school.
Start to count at 1:38 8/8 ouse please a metronom. it is'nt right, it is'nt goed, left hand is is not right, and i swear, i can play the same with 1 Manual splited. some peaple think thay must have an instrument like a building to play litle, litle music . Sorrymaybe you speek better english as i, but i learn now my sevent lanuage, and i go back to scool. I play music also 50 years, i was drummer, and i start to learn Piano, Keyboard Organ 9 years ago.
jazzkhd - I've listened several times to the video and still do not have any serious problems like you do with how the guy plays. First your carps were about harmony. Now you are griping about rhythm. It sound like your experience as a drummer is coloring your judgement which is way too judgemental to begin with. The player on this vldeo is apparently a student and amateur and by that standard plays very well. Pls note everyone elses comments.
Ahh...Oliver Wallace! He composed this tune (among lot's of others), and was himself a theatre organist in the silent era, before he went to Disney to score sound films.
In fact, he was organist for a time at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle; the Wulitzer there went to Pizza N' Pipes in Redwood City, CA, where I played it for over 7 years. The organ is now in storage on the East Coast.
Very good man, I just bought a Roland Atelier Organ AT-900c for my home, and its awesome, sounds just about like the one u are playing... sure wish it was the one u have....keep up the good work.... you should post the Hungarian Rhapsody #2 in c minor... once again great job!!!!
Well done! Is this organ entirely digital? I'd take an Allen church organ over a Rodgers any day, but I had no idea their theatre models sounded so authentic, especially the percussion.
Thank you for your comment! This organ belongs to my teacher. I believe it was 150K brand new. If I can find enough time to practice, I will post another video.
the performer is double thumbing, which is very different than coupling one manual to another! Watch his fingers! They play different notes on each manual. Much of the same effect can be obtained with 'second touch', which I think is lacking in Allen instruments. Second touch allows a second stop to be played on the same manual with a slight increase in finger pressure.
I'm sure there are manual couplers on there. If there aren't I would never buy one. I'm trying to get one installed in the local high school auditorium.
Give 'em a break! there is a lot going on with that manual-to-manual "thumbing" along with a steady rhythm to be played. While the steady rhythm helps to act like a metronome, the relavilely uneven movement required by the thumbing can throw a guy off, hence the concerted attempt to stay in time or 'Robotic" attack' as you call it. Give him a month to get comfortable with the technique and see how much more fluid it will get. He might even work in sceond touch in the routine, too. Keep at it.
I am a very old lady, but remember well my father playing "Hindustan" on our piano at home when I was very young. Thank you for bringing back fond memories. My son is "flyboy" on this UTube, and plays an Allen 311 Theatre organ.
Very nicely done! Is that your own Allen GW4? Great looking console, and beautiful sound!!! I would love to have it...I only have a Hammond A122. I do have a Yamaha Tyros 2 keyboard, that I've made some videos with. If you get the chance please check them out...thanks!
You must have a good teacher since he arranged that! I'm going to be an organist too, but I haven't started my education yet...

Which instrument is the "easier" to play;the piano or organ?
Squarerig 1 year ago
@Squarerig Piano by far. (Although I am sure some pianists will disagree).

how do you control the percussion? Is it tied in to the keys for your left hand?
bigblockelectra 3 years ago
In this piece, it's tied to the left hand (lower keyboard) and pedals. But could be tied to just about anything.
