but I found it wholly untrue since it tends to freeze in single mission at recommended video card requirements so I would say a 256mb video card.

I mine is running in a 512mb ATI Radeon 4570 HD so there's no lag and I can fire up the graphics to the MAX!

Eh, not necessarily. I think it's more the thing that the multiplayer community was never very much in touch with the modding community and vice versa.

it sucks how i cant download the 1.1patch for homeworld2 because sierra website is now gone :@ which means i cant play these mods

dude i tryed them all, seriously i tryed them all i spent a whole day doing it. they r not proper patches, it downloads then says the original file is not there, sierra always worked because it was the proper thing

You'd need a modeling program, good old Notepad and some other stuff. Check the HW2 mod forum at Relicnews.

download them in the big. format and then paste that file in the homeworld2/data folder.

for the mod to work make a shortcut and add

-mod (name of the .big file) without the ().

It's a total conversion mod. It overhauls the whole game.

Well, i don't think anyone has ever built a comprehensive list since it changes literally everything except for some models and textures.

Theoretically, how smooth can the performance be? At the moment it seems kinda choppy. Does maximum performance require a certain degree level processor and/or graphics card?

Well, this video was made on my old computer, which had a singe core 1.8 GHz CPU and a Radeon 9600. The combination of PDS and fraps brought it to it's knees.

See my newer video (Reaction Force) for smoother performance.

The PDS mod probably taxes the processor more than the graphics card.

A few of points here, first of all there are only so many ways you can draw a spacecraft originally. Unless youre well informed it could be a cooincidence or driven by inspiration or it could be a chris foss copy right out but homeworld 2 is far more entertaining (not that im knocking the achievements of mr foss, i just find this game more immersive and varied)than a collection of whimsical book covers. One more thing, they really dont look alike at all... they really dont. no court would try.

just go to your homeworld 2 folder and look for the scripts folder inside of your data. there should be a file that says unitcaps. make sure you make a backup of the file you change just in case it screws up your game though. happy playing ^_^

Don't they have a "2pilot" view like in Catcalysm, it would help to view the battle from closer.

There is actually one in both Homeworld and Cataclysm, but to get it in HW you need to add something to the shortcut's command line.

Both of the tracks are from HW2. You can extract them from the game, if you want to do that i can explain it in more detail later. I'm too sleepy to explain anything now.

You need a good GPU that calculates the projectiles itself, and it shouldn't lag at all...

Their processing power is much greater than the CPU's

What do you mean? The GPU doesn't calculate the projectiles, it just draws the graphics.

It's the CPU's job to calculate.

actually newer GPU's do it because they have integrated physics processors to ease the pressure on the CPU

It's not just the graphics, it's the calculations for all the projectiles that slow most computers down.

Might be, it lagged on my 1.8 GHz Athlon on my old computer. Nothing stops you from trying, though.

The amount of ships flying around at any one time isn't that huge, but all the bullets, beams and various other implements of hurt are pretty taxing on the computer.

cool. i dont normally play with mods cuz my stupid computer cant take it. i wish i could tho cuz i love the pds and progenitor mods. oh yea and my battles just have 1 main battle and i normaly cuz right through it with my battlecruisers, distroyers, carriers and flack escort so i rarely have long battles

Battles in PDS tend to take some time. I often find i have a non stop main battle and some other side battles.

damm I have the homeworld 1.0 and the cataclism, I need to find the homeworld 2.0 around, it look cool, my battle stile is combine fighters and heavy corvettes with assault and support frigates, do this kind of tactics work in this version, or the ships work diferent?

You'll be able to get HW2 cheap if you can find it. The ships and tactics are quite different, but you can still put emphasis on, say, fighters. Of course, PDS makes this all different still.

Yeah, that spinning carrier gave me a chuckle. The ships sometimes just go too fast in some direction and suddenly they find themselves in a situation where they're unable to stop whgen they want to. "Heeeelp, i can't stop!".
