LMAO SCOTCH COMMERCIAL. I didn't see that at all...I'm a prospective CFA holder and i was thinking "This sure is a shitty ad to sell the CFA..." and ahha I can't even remember the scotch name...this is a bad commercial
For me, the joy of passing was second only to the joy of not having to go through the horrendous CFA examination procedures EVER again...THOSE will make you want to consume large volumes of alcohol even if it is second rate bourbon....
I think the moral of this ad is clear, You must consume large volumes of alcohol to pass the CFA exam. Or maybe the CFA exam just makes you want to consume large volumes of alcohol.
people on youtube are full of liars and arrogant, some can pass 3 levels in 18 months, but the number are very small. For those who had pass level 3 in 18 months won't leave a message like that on youtube.
so for those who said they passed all 3 levels in 18 months and mocking this man for being an idiot are liars.
You better go and check with the CFA Institute and this is how they administrate their exam. Very clearely... I never fail any level and used the shortest possible time to get through exams.
they pretty much are liars. to pass all 3 levels in 18 months implies that no studying at all was done for L1. You can go on any forum and find D-bags saying they passed L1 in a week, or no studying, or whatever, but I can tell you that I studied a good 3 months for just level one, and the volume of information I had to figure out hot to retain... it was daunting. it's possible to do all 3 in 18 months, but the odds of that are on par with winning the lottary.
First off: capital lettering does have a function - use it. Second: no need to get rude, wtf did I ever do to you? Frustrated, are we?
Lastly: I majored in Financial Econometrics, anyone who graduates in that should be able to pass level I without studying. Don't comment on what you have no possible way of knowing anything about.
18 month from the time you start taking the test to the time you finish taking the test. You still need the work experience but lets just say you have that, you didn't count the studying that goes with taking the first level. If you were good enough to pass without studying, then you probably shouldn't be taking the CFA as it is not designed for you.
Anyways, like I said before, this is the CFA, not a Nobel Prize so whats the big deal? All my friends and my brother passed in 3 year.
18 months to get through 3 levels... rofl. What a dumb fck. At least do some research about how often you can take the exam before trying to create a story.
flagella - you idiot... just looking at the computer this guy is using to log in shows that this is a dated advertisement... they didnt offer level 1 twice a year until only 3 years ago (i think, could be 4)... so the 18 month option didnt even exist when this guy took it.
plus, the vast majority of people that even end up with the CFA credential take more than 1 attempt on at least 1 of the levels, so give the guy a break.
and just to continue my point... i would say that 99% of the CFA charterholders i know that completed the program without having to take one of the levels were still in school... which makes it much, much easier (more time, in the mode of studying, etc.)
if you are already in the workforce, particularly in a demanding position (65+ hours a week) in the finance industry, it is not frowned on to have to retake one of the levels.
flagella - hmmm... after re-reading yours (and others) comment, i may have misunderstood. where you doubting the ability to obtain the credential in 18 months? if so, let me tell you, technically it is possible.
a couple of years ago CFA institute (then AIMR), started offering level 1 in december, assuming you took that and passed, you could then take level 2 six months later, then assuming you passed that, level 3 would follow 12 months after that, hence the 18 months.
no it is you who are the dumb fck. You can sit Lvl 1 in December, Lvl 2 the following June, and Lvl 3 the next June. Of course this assumes (a) you pass first go and (b) you barely study for Lvl1, but it can be done.
First.. This is a commercial for a liquor company.
Second.. Say this guy take 5 years to finish his 3 levels. Don't diss him for that. He maight have had cicumstances in his life you don't know about. May be he spent 3 of those 5 years as a FARC hostage in Columbia. You don't know that.
Third.. 5 years is an incredibly long time to commit to a self initiated and self directed education. That in itself is commendable.

any way there is no saying which one is better it depends on the industries you are working in. But in general ACCA (which is the exam to get CPA) is a degree, in fact in most countries it is not even a full degree. The CFA qualification is a post graduate course, although it cannot be compare to an MBA. But some financial firms do pay CFA more than MBA, unless your MBA is from top class schools like Harvard.
I went through these emotions myself. As for MBA vs CFA, my company requires our team to have BOTH (or grad in Finance/Quant + MBA). Now as the person interviewing to have an MBA and no CFA does put the applicant behind, IMO.
One more point: at least the CFA is a standardized test - lots of crap MBA programs.
All i have to say about this stupid discussion of CFA vs.MBA is that I have seen companies requesting for its MBA´s to get the CFA and never asked a CFA to get an MBA.
Don't know why some are getting into such a hoopla about CPA and CFA. Dudes, it's ICAEW ACA qualification which is the real deal - being a UK-qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA) is far more prestigious and lucrative.
couldnt agree more, bimmer. the only people comparing the two are accountants, who tend to make far less (salary-wise) than financial analysts or portfolio managers, and i say that from experience.
and for the record, a CFA charter is much more marketable than an MBA.... MBA's are a dime a dozen.
you never give up do you. which state of cpa do you belong to? everybody has mba nowdays with all due respect to your credential. every unemployed people pursue mba in the hope of better future. sometimes, schools provide nothing but false expectation. they are in business making money. collecting tuition, but no job is out there. do you see so many internet online mba degree course? i have see a guy with ten certificates. however, nothing was authorized and issued by the government.
Comparing CFA to CPA is like comparing apple to orange.Public accountants review financial statements and express thier openion on its fairness.financial analysts use financial statements and other sources of information to predict future performance, earnings and growth. So they are totally different fields of work. Both designations are prestigious and recognized world wide.70000 candidates sit for the CFA exam every year and about 1/3 of them pass the exam. only 15% reach and pass level 3.
I worked with a couple of CFAs and they were making about 45k. I know some who are making over 100k. I think it matters on timing, personality, politics and location. I do not know of a CPA or CA that makes below 70k. I think Brokerage there are less spots where if you are a CPA there are more companies to work for.
Anyways The Code & Standards say that "which ever is the strict (the government or The Code & Standards) apply. And for the fact CFA Charterholder vs. CPA: Please go conduct some descent search and the facts will portray that a C.F.A. Charterholder makes more than a CPA or MBA, even a Ph.D. MY OPINION: CPA only prepares financial statements or do audits. A C.F.A. Charterholder is more capable of doing complex analysis and making financial decisions for the company.
if cfa does not know how financial statements are prepred, how can he/she is "doing complex analysis and making financial decisions" though? perhaps, software takes care of it for them. anyone can do it with software. thanks for your thought though.
no problem. the main part of the cfa is financial statements. it is tougher than the cpa cuz u are first understanding how financial statements are prepared and then learning how to play around or twist them. let me make it clear that softwares only do what u tell them to do... then u have to come in and manipulate the numbers to see which model you want to use. Please again do reliable research. I am a MBA, CPA, and know going for a CFA.
well holdon, i'm leaving work now so i wont be able to respond to your idiotic jealous statements until tomorrow. like i would ever exchange personal info with someone as obviously unstable as you (or anyone met on youtube for that matter), anyways... your id number wouldnt prove anything anyways... further evidence that you are a fraud and are an obvious CFA program failure/dropout-quitter... sorry you couldnt hack it.
holdontight1981... you sound like an idiot. your obvious bitterness stems from the fact that you have probably tried to obtain the charter and failed miserably... relax, not many people can hack it... so dont be so down on yourself. in short, anyone that CAN get the charter, does... anyone that cant get the charter, thinks its stupid. grow up.
holdon... yeah right. i am sure that anyone that reads all of our respective comments will see tha tthere is no credibility to anything you type. and there is n0o one that has gone through the process of obtaining the charter that would have so many negative things about it. plus, if you indeed held the charter, you would know that you cant refer to yourself as "a cfa" CFA isnt a noun. you obviously dont know what your talking about. fake.
give me your cpa license, and i will give my id number for cfa. obviously, you have no job. get a real license and lose inferiority complex. then, we talk. ok?
holdon... the only one with an (obvious) inferiority complex is you. for some reason, you feel like being a CPA is an accomplishment, it really isnt, where i live, it simply means that i have 2 years of auditing experience and passed a 4-part test... okay, so i had a low paying job for 2 years, so what? once i got into fincance, i realized that i was wasting my time. for the record, from someone thta has one and is in the process of getting the other, the CFA process is more difficult.
The CFA process is not the most difficult. The fail rating is high because people who don't get a BCOM find it harder to do well and they accept anyone to do the CFA tests so obviously the riff raff gotta go. The CPA exam is not the hardest either, but the CA is regarded as the most difficult exam. Job requirements of CFAs and CPAs are difficult, but the nature of the work is so different that if you are trying to compare the two it means you don't know what you're saying.
You don't 'use the title'? This implies you are able to use the title, meaning you pay your dues. You pay for something and you don't use it because it's not issued by the state?
yes. "cfa" , whatever it may be, is not regulated by the government. for that reason, the public should not be overwhelmed by so many unregulated titles such as "clu" whatever, something like life insurance sales man.
Yes? See, that's where your simple-mindedness is overwhelmed. In cases where the government rules, regulations, etc. are more strict than 'cfa' standards, a "cfa', as you call it, must follow the government rules, regulations, etc. So in this regard the 'cfa' is regulated by the government. If you feel overwhelmed you should just admit that rather than stating it's the public that should not be overwhelmed.
You presume they don't. If I were in a place of trust buying and selling securities for an individual's portfolio I would be exposed to a slew of government regulation. I would be liable and subject to punishment for any violation of these regulations.
true. you will be punished under other laws and regulations. however, you will not lose your "title" because it is not issued by the government. the government will take away only what it has issued. so your "title" issued by private orgnization remains intact. the same is true with insurance sale man "certified or chartered whatever life insurance urban, whatever." it is also true with car sales man. good luck
holdon... no offense, but you are coming acrossed as extremely naive and unknowledgeable. and for whatever the reason you have a bone to pick w/CFA institute and/or charterholders (this is obvious).
holdon, just relax... dont get so bent out of shape over 3 little letters. if you dont like the credential, dont pursue it. and to think that the issuing body not being regulated by the government is a drawback, totally shows your lack of knowledge...who cares? dont read so much into it.
and holdon... the basis of your arguement is that the CPA license is issued by the "state", which in your eyes lends more credibility to it (?), which is curious, regardless, that doesnt mean that there arent dishonest people that are CPA's (remember arthur anderson)... get over it.
Kolcom2000 - wrong. CFA stands for Chartered Financial Analyst. and anyone that is comparing a CFA designation with a CPA is an ignorant fool... for anyone entering high finance, a CPA is useless. I am a CPA, but my job requires a CFA, hence my pursuit of it. and just for the record, typically someone who holds the CFA designation makes a lot more $ than a CPA, not because they are any smarter, just because the fields of finance & accounting are castly different, & wallstreet simply pays more
What is CFA? It is not even issued by the state. Why would anyone care? CPA is the only thing that is issued by the state. So many daman names (CMA, CFLU, CFU,). All garbages! It is deceiving to the public.
you can brag all you want. at the end of the day, it is a fake certificate, not issued by the state. every country has different accounting systems. how is it "globally"? maybee, it is acceted globally because nobody cares about it.
Hi, I hope to do my CFA level 1 this june, anyone can give me pointers on any good collage or should i just study it by myself? i live in POrtsmouth, also anyone wants to sell their books please let me know. Thanks Guys
Everyone who completes the CFA program deserves to be congratulated. It's a real accomplishment. Sticking with the program shows real determination, which will serve you well in your career. Hearty congratulations to you! For those posting any silly or ungracious comments, let's remember something that is taught even in Level 1 ethics: Reflect credit on the your industry. Say something nice, or say nothing.

DRu9... i already pointed out holdon's misuse of the designation... and yes, i dotn have a life either.

yeah. CFA = charcoal fire agent

You don't 'use the title'? This implies you are able to use the title, meaning you pay your dues. You pay for something and you don't use it because it's not issued by the state?
DRu9 3 years ago
yes. "cfa" , whatever it may be, is not regulated by the government. for that reason, the public should not be overwhelmed by so many unregulated titles such as "clu" whatever, something like life insurance sales man.
holdontight1981 3 years ago
DRu9 3 years ago
if is so important to the public, the government would regulate whatever individual activities. don't you agree?
holdontight1981 3 years ago
You presume they don't. If I were in a place of trust buying and selling securities for an individual's portfolio I would be exposed to a slew of government regulation. I would be liable and subject to punishment for any violation of these regulations.
DRu9 3 years ago
true. you will be punished under other laws and regulations. however, you will not lose your "title" because it is not issued by the government. the government will take away only what it has issued. so your "title" issued by private orgnization remains intact. the same is true with insurance sale man "certified or chartered whatever life insurance urban, whatever." it is also true with car sales man. good luck
holdontight1981 3 years ago
holdon... no offense, but you are coming acrossed as extremely naive and unknowledgeable. and for whatever the reason you have a bone to pick w/CFA institute and/or charterholders (this is obvious).
holdon, just relax... dont get so bent out of shape over 3 little letters. if you dont like the credential, dont pursue it. and to think that the issuing body not being regulated by the government is a drawback, totally shows your lack of knowledge...who cares? dont read so much into it.
bigfranky75 3 years ago 2
and holdon... the basis of your arguement is that the CPA license is issued by the "state", which in your eyes lends more credibility to it (?), which is curious, regardless, that doesnt mean that there arent dishonest people that are CPA's (remember arthur anderson)... get over it.
bigfranky75 3 years ago
yeah. you don't even know how to prepare financial statements, do you?
holdontight1981 3 years ago
i thought we became a friend. you are the one who are now ganing up against me. why? who prepares financial statements? you or me? have a good life.

Certified Financial Analyst - CFA
kolcom2000 4 years ago
who the hell cares about it? so many damn name and title not issued by the state. confusing the public.
holdontight1981 4 years ago
Kolcom2000 - wrong. CFA stands for Chartered Financial Analyst. and anyone that is comparing a CFA designation with a CPA is an ignorant fool... for anyone entering high finance, a CPA is useless. I am a CPA, but my job requires a CFA, hence my pursuit of it. and just for the record, typically someone who holds the CFA designation makes a lot more $ than a CPA, not because they are any smarter, just because the fields of finance & accounting are castly different, & wallstreet simply pays more
bigfranky75 3 years ago
What is CFA? It is not even issued by the state. Why would anyone care? CPA is the only thing that is issued by the state. So many daman names (CMA, CFLU, CFU,). All garbages! It is deceiving to the public.
holdontight1981 4 years ago
Ignorant. CFA is the ONLY globally recognized financial designation, it trumps everything else.
ochristo1 3 years ago
you can brag all you want. at the end of the day, it is a fake certificate, not issued by the state. every country has different accounting systems. how is it "globally"? maybee, it is acceted globally because nobody cares about it.
holdontight1981 3 years ago
wow..you are one dumb fuck..oh well, we need ppl like you to allow us to earn more.

somebody below me has already characterized you as "cock fucking asshole." you have just proved it by your reply. goodluck with you fake certificate.

get a real license, which is called CPA. you will stop having inferiority complex toward to CPA, REAL LICENSE.
holdontight1981 3 years ago
wow you're a fucking idiot. CFA is globally recognized and actually preferred in many analyst positions.
CPA? Id want a CFA over a CPA. You're an accountant? bahahaha good choice of a job to have your salary cap out.
This guy probably works for H&R block.
