I read that Tom Cully, the soloist in this beautiful piece, simply lost his soprano voice when is voice changed, but he's still involved with the group behind the scenes. From the bios I read about the choristers, he's probably 17 or 18. I think this piece is so moving. It's now one of my favorites.

@HopeforHumanity1 it is possable to just learn to have perfect pitch, it just takes a lot of traning, as for me I have it. It is a major part in singing, wthout it there really can not be a sightreading skill.

Does anyone know if any of the boys in Libera, past or present, have absolute pitch? I don't have the ear to be sure, but surely some of their fans do and could tell me. It's something that has always fascinated me. I'll also ask on a more active site to see if anyone knows.

@HopeforHumanity1 : Well, i have a pretty good ear myself, but i haven't really searched for a note out of tune either. It's just that his part on Stay With Me (the Aaahs) sound pretty flawless to me. And his Libera solo sounds pretty good too ^^

@cassiem92 I think you are probably right about Liam. On the other hand, it's also possible to be able to hear pitch perfectly without being able to reproduce it vocally. I once knew a guitar player like that. He refused to sing a single note, didn't have the vocal training to meet his own standards, but he clearly had perfect pitch. I wonder if any of the new, young members have it. It would be hard to go from having several boys who have it, to none.

I once heard a choir director ask an adult male singer if he had been a boy soprano. When he said he had been, the director said he could often identify it in singers because there is often such a grief for the loss of the ability to make that glorious sound that he could actually hear it in their adult voices. I can hardly stand it myself that Tom's treble voice is gone forever. It must be so hard.

I think that Tom did better in this concert in "Do Not Stand" than "Far Away"... he hit all the right notes during the harmonies, but solo he sounded stiff, not as fluid. Also, a little breathy.

Tom does a wonderful job on this song, but Michael is standing there back behind him (clearer on the DVD) and he seems to get emotional (about 1:25), this was Michael's best song, he still must feel it when they perform. I'm just glad to see him stick with it. God Bless, Michael and Tom, now it's Ben's turn for glory. Go Libera!

There is just the group of like 5-6 of these young boys who really stuck out an made Libera a memorable run for me. Liam, Tom, Josh, Ben, Edward, Sam. an Joe. Ok that is 7 lol. Tom and Liam have made the biggest impact though, to me anyways. They are all wonderful an very talented but for me, Those two really touched my heart, an continue to do so even when they move on.

I just hope that other members will have equal credits as Josh, Mike, Ed, Liam, Joseph and Tom.. like Sam and other low notes choristers - Libera sound wont be the same without them..

Well, Josh's song is Secret, which is now being sung by Mini Ben. It's just how Libera works. It's sad, but necessary. Robert Prizeman would be up to his eyes in writing if he had to make/choose a song for each and every one of the boys.We just have to appreciate what we have, because they do.

It is TOUGH when a boy soloist enters puberty and his voice can no longer hit notes once hit. The boy's voice is beautiful....yet short-lived. Notice Michael Horncastle BEHIND soloist Tom Cully at 1:27 to 1:39. It must be tough for him to know that Tom is singing "HIS" song. But notice his smile when Tom nails the high note as if to say....I pass the torch to you my comrade.

I almost cried when the camera shot both Tom and Michael singing at 1:27. Michael looked so sad. It must'd been so hard for Michael accepting the fact that his voice's changing and losing his solo. I love Tom, he's sooo good n handles the solo and his original part perfectly.
