This can sometimes be a stuffy song but DM gives this a lovely tone. Probably the best candidate for a future national anthem...although I think 'A Man's a Man' is another option.
The music is said to be a Scottish folk song played by Bruce's army at battle of Bannockburn, and by Joan of Arc's Franco-Scots army at the siege of Orleans. Which Rabbie Burns put his exceptional poetry to.
Reflecting both Scotlands Independence, and their "Auld Alliance" with France.
Of all the different renditions of "Scots Wha Hae," I think this is the best of the lament styles. But the march versions with full Highland pipes will stir my Wallace blood to a fighting stance.
@MarvellousMuffin Yes you are absolutely right. Burns actually gave it the title "Robert Bruce's March To Bannockburn" whereas we now normally just call it "Scots Wha Hae" The first two lines spell it out as the army is addressed as Scots who had bled with Wallace but now had been led many times by Bruce.
What a fitting tribute to the Gillies, who along with King Robert, the Bruce triumphantly sent the English Army back to their own lands in June 1314 & made Scotland free! Both Robert Burns and the "Elder Highlander" salute you! Thanks! Soon I'll be there with you and we'll win this war together! "Do or dee!" ~ Janet, "the Bards sidekick"
Just beautiful Peigi, what gorgeous clear pictures of the flowers and plants and lovely scenery to the wonderful Burns song Scots Wha Hae, you have done Scotland proud.

@strathpipe, wasn't it supposed to be Robert the Bruce giving a speech before Bannockburn, not William Wallace?

@MarvellousMuffin Yes I stand corrected :)

This song is performed to brilliant perfection -- well done Dougie MacLean -- this is the very best version I've ever heard.
