  • nice Collection

  • you have plastic gold

  • Wow. Haven't seen the Love Generation LP cover in many years

  • I use to have the `Good Rats` album

  • Hi DollyRean again:

I'm just listening to it right now after a couple of years of not playing the album.

The whole 13:13 minutes of pure Class A Psychedelic.

"Hey Mr Conductor where are we going, Hey Mr Conductor where are we headed. Hey Mr Conductor he just walked on by ...."

"Into a tunnel that was cut into the earth, black outside gettin' blacker in my head, thought I saw the flash of a monster's eye ..."

  • Hi DollyReen, I have the solution to your search:

It's from the first and only album by San Francisco's band The Serpent Power, led by poet David Meltzer and his wife Tina, and the track is called "Endless tunnel"

Regards from the maker of 60's Garage Compilation "A Journey to Tyme"

    Hollie

  • cool!

  • It's driving me crazy... there was a song that had the refrain... where are we going where are we headed.... i'm just following the track

do you know the song? help me please!

  • OMG, I have an album by The Good Rats....lol!

  • I keep expecting you to pull out H.P. Lovecraft II. Do you have it?

  • Yeah, I acquired it some time after I made this video. I must say, though, that I prefer their first album to the second. I just don't see the second one as having too many memorable songs. I remember it being just a little bit low key to really sustain my interest. Maybe I'll have to give it another play soon.

  • @49kasey You must be kidding! But you must be tripping to appreciate this album.

  • Good morning, do you like sixties? Listen and pod cast my program " great sound of 60' s " on the site plumfm. Greeting and made blooper in rock and roll.

Salut, vous aimez les sixties ? Ecoutez et podcatez mon émission "le super son des sixties" sur plum fm. Salut et faites gaffe au rock'n roll.

  • @supersondessixties I'm new to computers. Can I get that on my laptop? I have a fast connection.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, I wish i had some Psychedelic records like those. The only one I have is The Hassles "Hour Of The Wolf", a Remastered 1981 copy on Liberty Records.

  • i can't believe you have The Group Image "A Mouth In The Clouds" , i still have that album too...not in the greatest condition...but a treasure in my collection. I acquired that album from the half little brother (David) of the named William Guy Merril....WGM's real name is Paul Rainer...if you have any info on this album or group...please contact me...i'm wondering how you acquired your copy of this album...i don't know how many were printed or how many may still be in existence.

  • Did you notice that I made a video of the Group Image album where I play (I think) two of the songs? Check it out if you haven't. I found my copy in an antique shop in Wooster, Ohio probably about 8-10 years ago.

  • Dude, don't EVER store your records like that!

  • @vanuaturocks can you tell me why not to store them in those plactic sleeves...i have ALL my albums in those sleeves

  • Where can I get a copy of Great Metropolitan Steam Band. Had a copy in the 70's and loved it.

  • i love Groovy Summertime haha

  • those old Decca albums are trippy...love the cover of the Love Generation one...woohoo the Blue Magoos!

  • Do you have a Heavy Metal collection? Punk? Power Pop or a "Prog" Collection. I still have some of these old bands but some of them were just to corny .I would love to see your 70's or 80's l.p.'s. How about British Invasion stuff?? You see I can be nice!!

  • Only one remaining original Blues Maggos member on that album that I consider their best.

  • WOW!! Now I'm going to go to one of the only independent records stores in the U.S.A. - Val's Halla Records in Oak Park, Illinois. I'm going to ask Val and Shayne if they have any of these fab albums!!!

  • awsome collection here's what i got

    1)Love- Da Capo

    2)Strawberry Alarm Clock-Incense and Peppermints

    3)Vanillia Fudge-Psychedelic Sundae

    4)Blue Cheer-Outsideinside

    5)Jimi Hendrix- Electric Ladyland

    6)Jimi Hendrix-Axis-bold as love

i can't think of them all but thats just some of my records

  • Love it!!!!!!!

  • i wish i had all of those and more

  • minnie ripperton was the singer for rotary connection used to play the wild goose in waukegan

  • Wow. Edison Electric Band. I thought I was the only one who owned that one! Awesome. Oh, by the way, it's now available on CD.

  • Nice collection! Here's some of mine: Moby Grape : Wow (1 track 78 r.p.m.) Lothar & The Hand People: Space Hymn Mad River: S/T The Head Shop: S/T Fifty Foot Hose: Cauldron Haymarket Square: Magic Lanterns Mary Butterworth:S/T (on Breeder 80'? re) Goldenrod:S/T Magi: Win Or Lose (on Breeder) The Other Half: S/T Moving Sidewalks: S/T Touch: Street Suite (unknown re 90's?) The Troll: Animated Music
  • I've been listening to a lot of Lothar and the Hand People lately and marvel how far ahead of their time the band (and Lothar) were.

  • The drummer from Lothar, Tom Fly, was the engineer at a session I cut at The Record Plant while drummer with The Shadows of Knight. They were a radically unique band. Not everyone used a theramin...

  • How about posting some of that Metro Steam Band. I used to have that album. Especially liked "Bourbon Street" rendition, but don't remember what else was on it.

  • Fascinating. I LOVE the Paupers - that the best album in the lot, I bet (although I admit I haven't heard most of them). Since when did lack of information keep anyone from having an opinion?

Just curious - how often do you listen to your old vinyl and what is your turntable. I listen to maybe a record per month on my Pro-Ject w/ top Denon cartridge. (An inexpensive set-up, but better than a rig 25 years ago that would cost many, many times more.

    Peace

  • I usually rip my albums and make mp3s/CDs of them so that I don't have to play them over and over. My current turntable is also a rather inexpensive Denon piece; I'd like to invest in a nicer, DJ-quality one or one of those nice USB turntables someday, though.

  • thank you for posting this now im off to listen to all those bands lol

  • I must say imho that Zig Zag People LP is the WORST Psych LP I ever heard, but other than that an awesome collection as always!

  • Um, yeah, it looks like it would be so cool, but it's not. It's like Vanilla Fudge covering the 1910 Fruitgum Company. Basically they take the only thing that's good about bubblegum music (its fast pace and silliness) and get rid of it, making it plodding and serious instead. Still, don't be surprised if I post a video of the damn thing one of these days! You know, depending on your taste, those videos I make could serve as a great exposure to interesting music or a warning to STAY AWAY.

  • Thanks for sharing these!

  • woah! obscure is an understatment with these albums. speaking of judging a book by it's cover, i've purchased many great (and not so great) albums based on album covers alone. my best blind purchace would have to be Caravan's 1st album.

  • Really Nice Record collection... Did you actually look for these LPs or did you just buy them at random but knowing they were kinda hard to find ?

  • Interesting question! A little of both is the answer. Some of these records I knew about and then found, whereas others I just found randomly and bought. Sometimes with 60s records you can actually judge the book by the cover.

  • Being 57, a musician, and a record collector(3,0000 LPs) at last count, it never ceases to amaze me at some of the obscure stuff that I've failed to catch. Keep it up.

  • What is it about Youtube where people invent such idiotic criticisms like "Ok, this is fine, showing people rare or not-so-rare records, but what's the point?"

Honestly, do you need your hand held or a hug or something? I mean the title is pretty self explanatory. Go read a book on it or something if you need to be taught.

Why cant people Just. Enjoy. The. Damn. Videos. Its like people come here itching for arguments.

  • Thanks for the sympathy. Honestly I simply think that our contemporary glut of media and entertainment has made us all feel like we're movie critics, book critics, etc.

I think what happens is that people search for the name of some musical artist and are disappointed to find just me showing the album cover. I understand that, but people should evaluate a video based on what it is, not on what they wish it had been.

  • Do you want to hug me bluenote? Is that your role here on the net, to police other people's comments because you have nothing to say of your own.

The difference between your snide remarks and my original comment is that I had a point. There is a tendency among record collectors and especially used record stores to look at every record from the sixties and paint them with the same brush. Rare! Classic! Obscure! And then to charge big bucks. I thought he could handle hearing that. Guess not

  • No, I can handle it! Actually I quite agree that record collectors and stores and Ebayers make every piece of vinyl that came out during this era sound like the holy grail of "mindblowing psychedelia." The truth is that a lot of these albums aren't all that hot. And a lot aren't that psychedelic, either. I mean, we're all looking for another FOREVER CHANGES, but that kind of quality is hard to come by. I have found a few amazing unknowns, but I've found some sleeper albums, too.

  • One of my favs of obscurity is Talk Talk by the Music Machine.

  • Yeah! I show that album in one of my "Garage Rock Classics" video: check it out.

  • I have Val's solo album and used to sorrespond with him in the late 80's when he lived in Kansas...A true genius. I love your collection man!

  • I dont have many of this stuff but look like late hippy stuff.. my fave is stuff a la 13th floor elevators/godz/fire escape.. Chocolate soup for diabetics/endless journey are 2 huge compilations..

  • 13th Floor Elevators weren't hippies?

    News to me

  • may be they were

  • It'd be great if you could post some of the songs that aren't available on youtube, with a cover for the visual-- something simple. Rarities like Stoecklein, etc.

  • Well, "classic" and "obscurity" are both just words, and as with any words, anyone can take issue with my choice. In the case of artists like Lee Michaels and the McCoys, I'm trying to show obscure releases by fairly well-known artists (You'll notice I didn't show "You Know What I Mean" or "Hang on Sloopy"). I appreciate your challenge, but we could argue for hours about which artists are "obscure" and which are "well known." Even Val Stoecklein was well known to someone, somewhere.

  • It seems like if you find the record, it's either a classic, an obscurity or both. Lee Michaels had a hit single or two and was pretty well known. The Love Generation also weren't obscure exactly. Val Stoecklein is the only one I'd call truly obscure. The McCoys ,Rotary Connection and the Blues Magoos had hit singles, The Paupers were well known in Toronto. I know I'm criticizing you but it's still fun just to look at records.

  • Man if he was going to show us stuff like Jimi hendrix, The Doors or Jefferson Airplane than i would say that this stuff isn't obscure! Even if some had hit singles they had little commercial succes!

  • Anyway, I'd say, not just show how you spent your hard-earned-cash (there's lots of people like you and me out there), but just share some sincere knowledge, the kind a vinyl seller would never say, like an "X" lp from "Y" band has a pretty cover, is very expensive, but is utter crap, for example!

  • Ok, this is fine, showing people rare or not-so-rare records, but what's the point? Why not pointing out what you like or dislike about each band and record? Is it worth buying it or not, which are the good tunes, etc... Or any other interesting thing? I mean, of all the ones you posted here, I really like the Group Image LP. These guys where from NYC and were twisted, a mix between other psych NYC and Jefferson Airplane, and you can find one of the tracks in one of the later Nuggets, I believe

  • Some of these artists, or at least individual group members, had some success in the 1970s. Lee Michaels had a big hit with "Do You Know What I Mean" plus a follow up with a remake of Marvin Gaye's "Can I Get a Witness?", both around 1971. Minnie Ripperton of Rotary Connection had the hit "Lovin' You" around 1975 but unfortunately died young. Rick Derringer ("Rock & Roll Hootchiekoo") was in the McCoys.

  • What ever happened to the ZIG ZAG PEOPLE!? I think they were a Chicago band? Any information on them? Wow! I thought I had the only record in existance!

  • Actually I know just about nothing about the Zig Zag People. Sometime in the upcoming weeks I hope to get around to posting a video of that record.

  • It is a really "grooooooovy" record! Back in 1969 (or there abouts) I heard an interview with the band on one of Chicago's underground radio stations. That's why I assumed they were a local band. The next day I went into Blue Note Records on Lincoln Avenue - and there it was... I had to have it! Groooovy!

  • I remember reading an article about the Zig Zag People's album in the Washington Post. I thought it was closer to July in 1969 rather than December, though. I have never heard them, nor had I ever heard of them except for that article since then until now.

  • Do you have, by any chance, one of the later Blue Cheer albums?

  • Nope, all I have is VINCEBUS. I've seen copies of their other albums several times, but they're always really expensive--usually like forty bucks, which is a bit much for me.

  • You really need to play Never Going Back To Georgia. Really.

  • As it just so happens, I transferred that album to digital last week. So, I'll definitely be posting some songs from it sometime in the upcoming weeks.

  • All right but why didnt you play, Never Going Back To Georgia?

  • awesome, yeah that makes sense. I love collecting and listening to what have. I have a bunch more I just recently got, i should make a video of those as well, what I am still looking for is Strawberry Alarm Clock, insense peppermints. GOTTA HAVE IT!!!

  • of all your albums, would you sell any? just curious, cause there are A BUNCH! that I would buy off you, and if you ever think of selling any, just message me. Thanks for the comment by the way.

  • You're welcome for the comment. Nice collection you've got. I have from time to time sold CDs and records, but the records that I show in these videos are the kind that I definitely want to hold on to. I love this music, and I love collecting it on the original records!
