I think this is one of the rocket powered helos. Delta force uses them. They are powered by hydrogen peroxide that hits a nickle mesh at the end of each blade. they peroxide expands into gas, thus creating a rocket at the end of each blade. i saw a model of backpack one when i was in army helicopter skewl

It's an utterly insane idea, but I've been sketching designs for such things for decades! Can you give it the glide characteristics of a Maple Seed for recovery?

This was a last minute kind of bash because of a leftover airfoil. The trick to mapleseed recovery is very light weigh and a wing with a bunch of lift. This was a small wing for the weight. Look at other of my smaller wings and most do the mapleseed. If I redo this one (which is very possible) I will put a much larger, lighter wing with a lower angle of attack for the same amount of lift up and more braking going down.

search for military nano monocopters, also someone at MIT is doing a man capable monocopter IIRC.....they have their niche, but as you note it is very small
