In Australia, we have a $200 coin. It's big like the mario coin, but has the appearance of real gold. If you tried to use an Australian $200 coin in an Australian shop, you would probably get similiar reactions to these. Since although the $200 coin is legal tender, it's something you're never likely to see outside of a display cabinet.
