Bought this 45 in 1962 at a Thifty Drug Store 9 cent bin. Loved it and wore it thin. Glad someone else Loves it and put it up. Great down home blues. I had a record player in my 56 Chevy and everybody at BoBo's Drive-in heard this sons song back in the day. Ed from Newark, Ca.
I was just on Wikepedia looking at music news in 1959, and I noticed that this man died only four days after the plane crash that killed Holly, Valens, and The Big Bopper. R.I.P Mr.Jones
Thanks . Too bad the movie ignored an original guitar hero. Slim was great. Died too young. I think I recalled reading in the liner notes of the Guitar Slim CD that Ray played piano on some of the songs. I'd have to check on that as that was a few years ago. Slim is one of my favs. SRV did justice to this song and played on that fatal day.
Watch what you say to eastboo-whatever. He/she will send you messages assuming your white ('cuz he/she is racist and assumes that if you say something bad about them you must be white 'cuz only they do that) and accuse you of being a redneck, coward, and a white racist. Funny, I'm not any of those! Shows who the racist one is, assuming that shit.
Oh and will threaten you with lawyers and legal action.
IT AIN'T THE WATER AND IT AIN'T THE FOOD? IT COMES FROM BEING A SLAVE, IT COMES FROM WORKING FROM BEFORE THE SUN COMES UP AND AFTER THE SUN GOES DOWN FOR NOTHING.IT COMES FROM NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP ANY KIND OF NASTINESS AWAY FROM YOUR FAMILY.ONE OPTION,DIE,BY BURNING,TORTURE,AND THEN THE SLOW ROPE.YOU CAN STILL FEEL YOUR PRIVATES OR SO YOU THINK AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN CUT OFF WITH A DULL KNIFE.IT COMES FROM BEING AFRAID TO STAND UP,NOT FOR WHAT WOULD BE DONE TO YOU,FAMILY ALSO.ALL AGES.
@eastboogiesyl Your so dumb. You think this guy was a slave? You think he went through all that? No. The music may have come from something like that, so go find an appropriate page to post your negative racist bullshit on. Dumb ass all-caps mother fucker.

GREAT production on this track thanks to The Genius Himself Mr. Ray Charles!

@GoldenNakai17 I understand Ray and Slim were close. Can't remember if Slim was in the movie. Don't think he was?
Diosprometheus 5 months ago
@Diosprometheus I don't believe that he is. This is also one of the only songs I know with Ray on production, but he is soooo very on point with it!

The Great Ones all have it.
There's something there, Deep Down South.
It may be The Water and it might be The Food.
