OMg this is sooooo good. I love YS series. I have played the original game to sega master system and the remastered version of YS1 and 2, also played ys 3 the oath in felghana and Ys VI the ark of napthism (spelling). But the music in the remastered version of ys1 is so epic and gives me the chill. oooooh
Please upload the soundtrack from YSII one of the dungeons. It sounded almost rock/techno-ish. I think it was in some guys basement where you blow a hole in the hall.
Ys Book 1 & 2 on TG16CD was so fun and the music was amazing. I wish you could still play the audio tracks from games by just putting the disc in a cd player :D (Yes, I know track one always tells you not to but I never had a problem doing it)
While I certainly agree that RPG music has digressed as games have gotten more advanced, I would not say that there are no great tracks in modern games. Take a listen to music in games like Valkyrie Profile 2, Atelier Iris 2 and Tales of the Abyss. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
What blows me away today is the fact that modern RPG's can't even come close to what this game had to offer in terms of music...are we regressing as a culture of RPG players!?!
@Joe22c Yes... even better than Chrono Trigger. It goes like this: 1. Ys I&II 2. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night 3. Dracula X: Rondo of Blood 4. Chrono Trigger 5. Final Fantasy VI 6. Phantasy Star IV 7. Phantasy Star II 8. Mega Man II 9. Salamander/Life Force 10. Lunar: The Silver Star (Sega CD version)
I like Super Castlevania IV, but to be honest I haven't really given it my all even though I've owned it since it was newish. On the other hand, SotN blew my mind and stuff does. Rondo is just... pure gold.
Some days, I probably could put FFVI on the top of my list. I do absolutely love that soundtrack. FFIV and VII are brilliant as well. Heck, some days I'd put Lunar:TSS on top.
@Firebomber7 Never got a chance to play Lunar. What made the music really cool for me is the art work (at least from what I've seen) seemed to just make sense for that world and its characters. I wanted to play it but the in game graphics even then didn't really wow me enough to commit.
well thanks to wii virtual console people can experience this awesomeness just like i do right now .What made me interested into y's was indeed the music it offers .I didn't know nothing about y's until a video on the site niconico was posted of a violonist with a scream mask doing a cover of to make the end of battle and god that music blew me away and i had to check out that game .Cool thing is book 1 and 2 are coming to the ds :P
Yay! I love the Ys music and I still don't know why but Ys is my favorite series. Can I get a Ys game on PC? Without emulators any Ys game?

Wow nicely said. Kids today only care about pretty graphics and WOW Lvl grinds.

Yeah, nicely said. Really I think Ys music is way better than any other game music.

I can't believe my comment actually got a thumbs down.
It's a legitimate comparison and I'm not bashing anything.

@Firebomber7 No Super Castlevania? I personally think FFVI deserves top honors but hey its on the list.
