  • she made a Pakistani dish cuz she put the exact same spices as we do! but instead of frying the egg, we cook it along with the potatoes. so ur eating an omelet with potatoes in it for breakfast.....................................................

  • 1998 O_O

  • not enough butter in this- that is the best accompaniment to nigella: the thick, unctuous, full-fat gooey goodness of nigella and the buttery butteriness of butter

  • she inspires me to cook.. <3

  • When I watch these videos while eating I tend to eat more.. :D

  • wow she's a pro

  • what a mess

  • is it me....or did anyone else notice she put in an extra helping of nigella seeds? ;)

  • I made this, but with chicken not potatoes, steamed it all, the spice combination is just awesome!

  • she is so hot

  • Bring her back to telly!!

  • Dunking that potato in the egg yolk made me wet...in the mouth.

  • did she put any salt in it? wonder if i missed it. She is the bomb though, more with chocolate!:D

  • I love how she gets her spices from its original package and that, from a ziplock bag. Not like those other pretentious Food Network personalities that remove the original package and put it in a nifty container.

  • She is a Goddess! I love her. Such a gorgeous woman! She is a teacher of the art of thoroughly enjoying food.

  • @wooahkiddo Thanks a lot! Grazie mille! Merci, Danke Schön, Dank je wel, Gracias!

  • Which powder comes next to the chilli powder?

  • @Rowayna turmeric

  • whats the herb after mustard seeds..??

  • @Applebeees fenugreek seeds

  • Comment removed

  • omg when she poked at the yolk with the potato

    UNF

  • she has a closet with spices and preserved food. WOW. amazing woman right there

  • they using camera filters

  • Love her.... I wish the eggs sold in the US were as orange and rich as that one.... ours seems so pale and yellow to that.....

  • @Bearskills it's to do with getting them free-range. free-range eggs, i've found, are much brighter than otherwise.

  • I love how she british-pronounces all the hindi words. Nigella, I <3 you and your sexy cooking.

  • that looks yummmyyyyy

  • Its panch foran which translates to 5 spice, we use it in bengal alot,

    1. mustard seeds

    2.fenugreek seed

    3. cumin seeds

    4. fennel seeds

    5. kalonji seeds (nigella seeeds :-) )

if buying at an indian store just ask for panch foran.

and she uses the ground spices,

    red chilly powder

    turmeric.

  • @sreya28 it is "paanch poran" bengali spice mix.

  • can anyone please give a full list of spices used in this recipe? I can understad almost everything but the names of the spices, I'm italian and i've not such a deep knowledge of names of spices in english! :( Thank you in advance!!

    Anto_iris

  • @irisanto88

    Red Chilli Powder

    Turmeric powder

    Black mustard seeds

    Fenugreek

    Cumin

not sure about the last one..

  • This is really good, gonna have to try this some time

  • i totally like her recipes...bt i totally agree...that all the whole spices have to be added first in the oil....n then the potatoes have to be added....n she skipped the salt....

  • the panch phoron has to be put in the oil first... its a bengali spice .. very aromatic n distinctive :)

  • no salt????

  • She should have put in the spices in first before the potatoes to warm-up it up. In Indian and other East Asian countries they do this. I can understand why she had refused an "OBE" (Order of the British Empire), because it would have cause some controversy amongst her peers who are more professionally qualified.

  • @cherryblossomslover Nigella is not a cook at all, much less a professional cook, nor did she ever claim to be as such; she is a professional housewife/mother. And as far as the OBE goes, I don't think that Nigella could have cared less about what the handful of celebrated British chefs would have had to say about the matter; I just think that she couldn't be bothered, really.

  • @Re9ap9er9 You know you are right in that sense! She is not really a professionally trained chef. I never really thought of her that way in the first place as I used to love her as she is so beautiful, but then again a pretty face does not solve her set backs. I am not hating her...just grown out of her I guess LOL!

  • I lost ten pounds this year--my freshman year of college--instead of gaining the freshman fifteen. But now I think I'm gaining it back because I watch Nigella in the evenings and just want to cook up a storm! And when I don't have her varied ingredients I just end up snacking. I crave things I've never even had before!;) I need to start watching her soup and salad recipes more than her potatoes and desserts! She's amazing though, such a great cook she inspires me to experiment in the kitchen.

  • No? It's ingrained culture. It's perfectly normal for atheists or muslims or whatever to od christmas. It has as much to do with jesus as it has to do with the whole atmos of giving crap to each other and making your house colourful.

Actually a lot of symbols used during christmas are heathen but were adopted by the church because people didn't want to part with them.

If you wanna be a self-righteous puritan, at least know what you are being uppity about;)

  • I love you, Nigella; you really know how to enjoy food. True guilt-free pleasure!

  • Yummmmmmmmmmmm!!!!

  • Christmas has moved beyond simply celebrating the birth of Christ, it is now a Holiday to exchange and recieve presents and be with each other, so a lot of people celebrate Christmas simply for that reason...

Nigella just makes it even more special with these potatoes~

  • Perhaps cos it's a national holiday in all 'former christian countries'. If i was in the states around thanksgiving, I would join in the festivities even though i don't give a rat's ass about whatever it is they celebrate then. Don't need an excuse to celebrate, but it's good to have one.

  • She's a bit of a crumpet herself. Yummy!

  • no!

  • man SHE looks good ! i'd eat her instead !!!

  • what are the 5 whole spices? It is hard to hear all of them!

  • fenugreek, cumin, nigella seeds, black mustard, fennel. These are the five whole spices. Nigella seeds are also known as kalonji..................have fun!

  • # half tsp turmeric

    # half tsp red chilli powder

    # half tsp fenugreek seeds

    # half tsp nigella seeds

    # half tsp black mustard seeds

    # half tsp cumin seeds

  • Like me got plenty of goods expired in my storeroom!

  • i'd let her dip ur potatoes in my yoke

  • what's the school she got kicked from? I rly couldn't hear, even after a dozen times

  • she got "chucked out of the art room at school"

  • I think she said art room or art class .. something like that

  • :) it looks gud..

  • it duz :) it looks really reaally guuuud.

  • hey.. like i said this is a good adaptation ..but yes onions and tomatoes are added in as well.. but i find it quite surprising that u dont think that ppl use mustard seeds! trust me they are quite common.. look pretty and also add a distinct flavour.. try it!

  • This looks nice. I ve had it at some Indian restaurants.

@Tk011982, I am surprised that u r a pakistani and u make it ALL the time. The aloo ki bhujia I know (and everyone else I know knows) has onions and tomatoes and chilis in it. I am pakistani and I ve never seen this dish made anywhere. Nor do I know of any Pakistani home which uses mustard seeds.

I am half punjabi , half pashtun, so this might be a sindhi way...dont know. But its excellent tasting definitely.!

  • this is a potato bhujiya in pure eastern words!! glad to see that her adaptation has been good. and by the way the mustard seeds will not be raw & 1/2 a tsp is hardly a lot. Trust me.. i know im pakistani & we make this ALL the time.

  • she used the indian spices too in dis video. she always does. im indian. and indian spices are the tastiest n healthiest of all spices. im proud to be an indian. and will show the world what indian food is!!!

  • I'd rather use more oil than have the chemicals from a non-stick pan.

  • Though there's a lot to be turned on from what Nigella does, anyone get particularly hot and bothered near the end when she swirls the egg yolk with that potato - because I sure did lol.

  • Nigella makes wonderful stuff, but in this case she has made a gross error.Mustard seeds are never added in this fashion. They must always be spluttered in hot oil.Raw mustard seeds taste awful.Basically most Indian food has a tempering of spices and spices are never added to potatoes like this.First you temper the spices and then add the potates followed by dry powdered spices.

  • I have to agree. I asked my mum about this and she also said to add the raw spices first before anything else.

  • I love how enthusiastic about cooking and how she takes so much pride and is passionate about it

  • hmmmmmmm maybe i should try that since i have tones and tones of potatoes in my fridge~~ hope it turns out to be good~~

  • nigella rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • very simple and must have been tasty too. And look at her ooze it into that egg yoke

  • I made this today and it was delicious!! I did add a little red pepper flake too though and some allspice!

  • lmao, ur so mean.

  • i just realized in her videos she doesnt add salt in her food o.O or she did?

  • indian foood...!!

  • She seems sort of sad in here.

  • How many tons of potatoes does she eat?

  • I don't care about what others think or say on this, but I simply have to say that the dish was mouth watering and was in fact, authentically Indian. If someone has Nigella's recipes on Mexican food, please do post the videos for those episodes. I just love Nigella's cookery talents and skills!

  • Yeps very Indian cuisine..It's like usually found inside Thosais.. mouth watering :D

  • I can listen her voice that she probably got sick. Nevertheless, she still can cook a good meal. Good Job lady

  • no, she was not sick--it was because her husband died.

  • @hkitty383 What? When?

  • she's supposed to add the seeds first and let them cook and then add in the potatoes..where in the world did she learn this way??

  • true! I dunno why people thumbs-downed your comment. But that's how you get the flavor of the mustard seeds. Fry them for a bit in the oil before adding in the potatoes is the best way to make masala.

  • love the DRY at 1:20---so deep and sexy. lol

  • i mean drunk

  • oh yeah "dry" at 1 min 16 secs does sound funny & when she says "efficiency" at 55 secs she sounds drink lol hehe

  • What does she study? I have heard her mention always about a hard day at school! Isnt she a journalist?

  • She studied Modern Languages at Cambridge university.

  • Actually she went to Oxford but as for a long day at school, I've no idea what she's alluding to.

  • She looks tired.. :(

I hope she is better now.

  • Umm, did someone tell Nigella that the spices need to come at the beginning? Her spices neither cook, nor sizzle. Nor are they fried. The potatoes need to cook in the spices, not the other way around!

  • Spices do stay in the pan with potatoes for "another 10-15 minutes" until they're cooked. (3:33)

  • it sounds so weird the way she says "dry" at 1 minute and 16 seconds, hehe, i thot it was funny!

  • This is a WRONG way of doing the Indian Potatoe 'sabzi'. She put all the spices for e.g, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds at the end. In Indian cooking, you need to put them in the oil when it is hot and let it crackle and then come all the rest of ingredients.

Nigella, if you are reading this, no offense, but please do not call it Indian just because you used indian spices. I love you for whatever you cook and for the life that you have put in this show.

    P.S. Please put less turmeric

  • u'r family is realy lucky :(

  • Nigella is sexy!!

  • Nigella rox!!!

  • Nigella is hot!!!!

  • that looks soooooooo good =) and easy too, although you'd need the spices at hand =) cant wait to try it!

  • Same here.

Damnit, I just ate. Now I'm hungry again. Damn you, Nigella! Damn you and your awesomeness!

  • She always makes me hungry :(

  • I'm from the US and I like runny eggs, overeasy? what's the big deal?

  • Thanks for the post

  • that is a really pathetic comment!!

  • shes not in the US, so why would it be a problem for her? And dont use "cross-cultural exchange" because US doesnt have a real culture..please

  • thats because we have all the cultures together...why are u so close minded! we embrace the world not try to be better than everyone else in some elitist delusion

  • Runny eggs are fab... esp when enough heat has gotten to them to make syrup-like and custardy... you don't know what you're missing.
