If you say push heels down you lock the whole leg ..if you say lift your toes, you retain total flexibility ..Just one of those things we say that has an altered meaning ..Picky I know, but try it ..it's different muscles.Love your vids.
@nameofthepen Oh thanks for your response! Isn't it a shame that it is so misunderstood!! I was told that by a guy about thirty years ago and I never heard it since either!
I totally agree with you that instructors have forgotten about teaching people how to really ride. Ive known people whove rode for over 3 years and yea they have great equation, but they have no clue how to handle a horse or use their body.
David I have a question that has never been answered by anyone,,I hope you can. I ride standardbred horses and all my friends do to.I grew up on quarter horses and it was hard to adapt, but when i ride my horse around home i can use a halter and lead but with a crowd of horses, Blackjack goes into race mode so do the other standards, is there a way to train this 16 yr 1000's of miles horse. hes real smart and gentle,no other issues. Thanks Gunns.
@SuperCowboy70 One in a crowd I would use a halter and lead the first few times . The main reason is because of the menchanics of it If a horse really spooks it would be hard to pull the head around. So you have to think of putting a cue in there to tell the horse to relax ,that is why I am a big fan of the one rein stop after awhil you can slow a horse down just by touching one rein. The more you have to use your hands in that type of situitaion the hotter they will get ,It is in their nature
@SuperCowboy70 I meant to say I wouldnt use a halter and lead,,, but what I would do is go to a snaffle and do alot of one reins stops. Until all I had to do is touch one rein to slow them down.. then if you wanted to do it in a halter and lead
David,,,, i so love your straightforward no pussyfooting around the truth way, your honesty is a pleasure to hear. I cant wait to see more vids with the new camera!!! Thanks for posting for us to learn!
just wanted to let you know that i always wach your videos all the time and use alot of your training ways on my own horses and horses that i train! i love your videos and keep the good work up! (:

@chelackie - OMG! You're the second person in the whole world I've ever heard say that! And it is so true. It's not "picky" - it's everything.
