Who the fuck cares if an automatic is faster. Anybody can drive an automatic sports car. A manual sports car is the most fun. I'd die if I had to drive an automatic everyday to work.
@er1k93 so anyone can drive an F1 car then? on track, you have better control (hands on wheel at all times) with paddles... that and you can beat most people at the lights.. and that is fun :D
you can shift manually with the paddle shifters on the steering column or by using the stick-shift, or fully automatic like any other normal automatic.
Sorry but it's not a manual if there's not a clutch. Call em paddle shifters, tiptronics, i don't care. It's still an automatic until there's a 3rd pedal.
I really love how this transmission performs. I used to work for a Nissan dealership and droves these car's all the time (I like Nissan's but I'm not a huge fan by the way, except for this car and the Titan) . It's a lot of fun and it works without a single flaw that I could find. However I'm a row-your-own-gears kind of guy so I would personally opt for the manual transmission even if this is better and nearly every sense performance-wise. But hey that's just me.
yea i would rather take semi-auto with paddle shifters than having to worry about the clutch ... and i mean just regular auto does not compare to manual but with the semi-auto 370z, i think i would rather have that for sure
As a manual driver (and I can speak for others as well) we DON'T care if the 0-60 mph or 1/4 mile time is 0.2 seconds faster.
A manual offers you that precise control and grin inducing fun factor. One more thing to add, people always argue that an auto is easier in traffic, but actually a manual can be just as easy if you know what you are doing.
do what my parents do..insurance is gonna be a bitch, so put that car in your parents name, and put the cheapest car in your household in your name. For example, my sister got a brand new mercedez when she turned 16, so my parents put it in my moms name and put my mom's old 2001 honda accord in her name. (saved a lot of money on insurance)
@KakimotoRift are you aware that the automatic transmission in most cars including this one and the transmission that F1 uses are completely different?
@KakimotoRift f1 gear boxes have absolutly nothing in commen with the 370 gear box what so ever.
the 370 transmission is an auto tranny with a manual override. were as a f1 transmission is a straight cut gear set with dog engaugement and has clutch that can be pulled in by the driver unlike the 370.
"semi auto" just means you can change one gear up or one gear down at a time.
@KakimotoRift there is a clutch pedal in a f1 car. they just dont use a stick they use paddles to shift. ive seen one up close and had it explained to me. you can watch them stall out a f1 car on topgear if you dont believe me.
Did you know that most high-end sports cars nowadays have automatics (paddle shifters)? They shift better and faster then most people could shift while navigating a track.
@JvKintheUSA But those transmissions are a little different than the 370Z's. Dual Clutch Transmissions are what they have and also thats what the R35 GTR has. The 370Z just has an automatic transmission, which is still slower than a manual. A Dual Clutch Transmission is faster than a manual.
Yeah, most of us can't shift nearly as fast in a manual than a semi-auto. However, the high end sports cars like Lamboghinis and Ferraris use a dual clutch automatic, which is faster than ANY manual, no matter what the skill is of the driver. The Z is not equipped with a dual clutch, but it still shift's pretty damn fast for an auto.
@JvKintheUSA what your talking about are not automatics
automatics use torque converters
what your talking about are single or dual clutch automated manuals
meaning their manual but instead of you having to clutch and work a gated shifter instead it automaticly clutches and shifting is done with paddles that trigger actuators to shift.
@JvKintheUSA Yes, but is it more fun? I don't think so. I would trade a second during a shift to have a much more engaging drive. No auto can retain the excitement that doing a rev match and heal toe gives... That's just my opinion...
@JvKintheUSA i don't think he meant the automatic was a fail speed-wise, it's just more fun driving a manual car .. and usually people that buy sports cars buy them to have fun
@StevoElsupremo -Along with what JvKintheUSA [OP] stated also, if you have a mindset like that...then how do you feel about the new GTR, the Bugatti Veyron, and even cars like the Audi R8 5.2 that has R-Tronic. SMG's are the future because they are more effiecient than manuals with the ease of an automatic. but I plan on test driving and soon owning the new 7AT 370Z Touring w. Track Pkg because you still got sportyness that you can still drive thrugh traffic in, lol. that's how I see it.
@Clin10 This is old, but it will definitely be the future of race cars and for some their private cars, but some people just love having a real clutch pedal and I don't see how that can ever die.
@StevoElsupremo Im a driver of standar sport cars, I love standars but I just learn a little bit of this trans and is fuckin amazing butttttttt remember this trans are alllll electronic need a computer need a lot of sensor and etc... soo I prefer an standar
it would be nice if we can see the paddle shifter working while you shift up and down so that we get an idea of the responsiveness and how the 7 speed paddleshift works.
The 370Z with 7 speed AT is actually faster from 0-60 mph and through the 1/4 mile than the MT version. 0-60 in 4.6 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 13.1. Car and Driver did an article on it and some of the owners on "the370Z" dot com" have verified!
I agree with Ejrives. Automatic transmission is equipped with state of the art downshifting Rev match. This is a new transmission (7 speed) designed for 370Z.
The word "SynchroRev Match" should be used with the 6 speed manual. I know what you're trying to say JV (downshifting) but if you use the word synchrorev , it should be for 6mt
it's just an automatic down shifting in manual mode. They added the synchro to the manual to make it as smooth as yours is when down/up shifting. When you drive a stick and press the clutch in, the rpm's drop to idle, similar if you put it in neutral in your car. synchro keeps the rpm's up.
wicked fast!

You are correct. The automatic does not have synchro rings like a manual transmission has, so the correct wording is Rev match. I stand corrected!
JvKintheUSA 2 years ago
The automatic doesn't have synchro-rev. That's only the manual 6 speed. From my owners manual:
"SynchroRev Match mode (S-MODE) (if
so equipped for Manual Transmission
models)
The SynchroRev Match mode (S-MODE) automatically
adjusts the engine speed to match the
selecting gear ratio while changing gears."
it works on up and down shifts, fwiw.
ejrives 2 years ago

it's just an automatic down shifting in manual mode. They added the synchro to the manual to make it as smooth as yours is when down/up shifting. When you drive a stick and press the clutch in, the rpm's drop to idle, similar if you put it in neutral in your car. synchro keeps the rpm's up.
