Corpses decompose in different ways. Ways these guys describe : pealing skin, showing a "new" looking skin that is just another layer of skin rdy to rot off , swelling of the belly with gas from the rot that pushes the blood out of the body through the mouth ,nose ,eyes ,ears and other orifices lol. Nails and hair still grow for some time after the person dies.

So there you go. Got to love superstition !

they only age slower than normal and their skin is just thinker so it takes less time for it to grow back if it is broke say if you suffer a wound of some kind

Of course, but vampirism was commonly believed to be real before the twentieth century. No one is saying it is. Just explaining why people in those days believed in it. Plagues, various reasons for delayed decomposition, and other things. In some areas of the world they still dig up graves thinking they may contain vampires. Of course we NOW know they are not real. But not in the 1770's!
