Free Scottish School Dinners whilst "Cuts" in England

Here's something. I've been through Scottish schooling up until now and I, nor any of my friends and family currently in primary or highschool have SEEN A FREE DINNER!

If England wants free school meals for its kids then cancel the London Olympics or Crossrail or any of the other major infrastructure projects that I, as a Scottish taxpayer am paying for, but which do not benefit Scotland in any way.

Those billions saved would give England free prescriptions, school meals and personal care for many, many years to come. There's no Olympics, Crossrail or Javelin trains in Scotland, but there are in England. And they are jolly expensive too.

Believe me, as an Englishman I would love to cancel the Olympics and supposed rail upgrades. To get the free prescriptions as well would be awesome. Thing is though, the Scotch and Welsh can vote on purely English matters and fair play to them, they look after their constituents. We just need a change of system so that our opinions were heard more!

In Scotland, we have our own devolved government which deals with issues regarding education. Every year Scotland gives all its revenue to Westminster who gives us back a little bit of pocket money to spend in education etc.

The point im trying to make is that England does not pay for Scottish school dinners. The Scottish budget we get from westminster which is less than we put in, pays for the cheap school dinners.

Fight and demand a devolved english gov. so you can have this too!!

No. Scotland recieve 117% of what they contribute to the UK tax revenue. The extra 17% constitutes £6.4bn per year which is paid BY the English and goes towards Scotland. England also gives Northern Ireland £3.5bn and Wales £2.4bn each year, so if you think that UK devoluion/independance will benefit Scotland you are very much mistaken.

But England had a deficit in the last fiscal year close to £30bn. Scotland had a surplus of £800m. Those are the honest facts - try Government Expenditure and Revenue Scotland, if you want to see the official figures for Scotland, at least.
