They need to make a New Wave 80's Tour... OMD, The Cure, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, Erasure, Yaz, New Order, and ABC. I would pay Big money to see those Acts on One Day Event.
Listening to this song makes me want to pick up the phone and call up my college friends and say "hi"; reaching back in time for just a moment. At least to get away from the chaos of this present for at least for a brief moment.
I love the way these videos cost about $10,000 to make but they are what people want. They want to see the guys perform the song, not a bunch over the top crap and you never see the musicians and singers.
Why is it a lot of you can only praise a great song by comparing it with all the bad songs ever written? That's not praise, my friends. Praise is when you compare it with another great song. I know, I know, that's not the way you think. But you were never taught in school how to think for yourselves. So I understand.
One of my favorites.. have had the CD for years! And I remember seeing this great video on MTV back in the late '80's when they actually played music.
despite the touching lyrics, this song makes me bounce around for joy. it gives me happy chills... good stuff. I'll never 4get the time i heard this song while dreaming and woke up to dance around to it! a good memory.
aren't they playing Cochella Fest this year too? My sister is going and sez they will be there. I would go, but plane tickets are too expensive. bleh....
How the fuck did they ever get a record deal, he cant sing the lyrics could of been written by a five year old and most of there stuff sounds the same. The 80s were my twenties what a load of cods.
@yintontiddlyipo Why? Cause it is not the manufactured American idol bland singing crap we get now on the airways? They had a hook. An originally (and very good) singing voice.
If music is the soundtrack of our lives then I feel bad for the kid's these days having to endure crap like Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber and just about anything hip-hop related. Music died a slow and painful death after grunge left the scene 15 years ago with nothing new to replace it. There's absolutely no imagination and creativity anymore. So we're left to listen to songs from the past as the airwaves rot the brains of our children with the sounds of Lady Gaga and Fergie. Sad, but true.
The concept of "cool" is easier to sell than "talent" these days because it's cost-effective and 80% can't even tell the difference or make this conclusion.
Its funny to think that this was the last song the original line up of OMD recorded together before Paul and Andy parted ways in 1989 and now, 22 years later, the line up is back together and have just released a brand new album!
@tompom89 They have not broken at that time. If you look it up at Wiki, they were together from 77 to 96, took a hiatus only to return in 2006. But i don't know if they are going to make a new album.
@Supersweetguy Thanks for your comments but what I meant was that Paul Humphreys left OMD in 1989, the year after this song was released, effectively ending the original line-up of OMD. Yes you are right that OMD carried on after this until 1996 with Andy McCluskey and three new members but Im not talking about the second line-up of OMD that released Sugar Tax, Liberator and Universal in the 1990's. Im talking about the original band. OMD's new album is History of Modern. Number 28 in the UK!
made me cry, this was our time, when normal and beautiful people sang real songs from the heart, gorgeous guys, heartfelt music, i thank god the 80's was ours, i feel bad the generation now is missing out on such real music.... and real people.... real talent... this was our time....
Such a gorgeous song. Arrangement is flawless, from the strings, vocals and incredible beat that just drives you from beginning to end which I never want to come. Perfect song!
All who declaim there is no good music today... you might be right, there is no good music today in the radio, most of the time.
but there still might be some to find, if you search a bit deeper.
look for "Deine Lakaien" for example... a bit darker, maybe less joyfull, but still... no one can say that's no real music. and so you can still find real artists, it's just harder for them to get as popular.
I love OMD! still one of my favourites bands. The song 'If You Leave' was # 1 in the year 1986 in my country El Salvador and it was # 1 for the decade!!! Great memories from Radio Femenina in El Salvador!
This is real music played by REAL musicians....today, anybody can grab a mic and scream shit into it and make millions....just garbage!....no talent at all....these old bands wrote, sang and played their own songs......they had talent....
yeah, this kind of music was SWEET!!! no music it's all full of bad stuff. it's just a different type of beat... more hyper crazy! times are changing :-( good memories with this 80's music. i guess you could say the same if you love 70's about the 80's. you can never make people happy.

@vishuzkev 1986 is when i was finishing high school. it was quite the decade. while others had some good points, the 80's will always be known by many as the "fun" decade.
I consider myself old school and was fortunate enough to have these tunes on the air waves after I graduated in '82. Great memories that will never die! You are right about todays junk............I will not even use the word MUSIC in its description because music means something. Todays stuff is crap and cannot compare.
@vishuzkev I was a teen in the 80s and it was a truly amazing time! I watched MTV non-stop! We used to wait for world releases of videos, and sometimes they would launch a new video at midnight and you'd get together with friends for a party and to stay up and wait to see the video! Wow...takes me back.
@vishuzkev Shut up. Quit looking for attention. Nobody thinks you are cool because you listen to music from another decade. We all do. You are not special. If you aren't having fun it's your own fault.
Christ, they dont make them this good anymore....these songs are timeless, takes you back to an age where music was was at its peak, sadly the 21st century has proved to be the slow death of music where it is taken over by manufactured garbage and monotonous rap crap..
@Skyeskimmer, the result of drug abuse. The two crappy neurons of the "artistis" of today can not work. They need to copy classic hits of 60's 70's and 80's.
@risefromthedust I haveand their music makes me want to slit my wrists, sorry mate, they are not in the same league as this, this s pure pop which appealed to the masses of which a lot of the 80`s did,Coldplay unfortunately didnt...good as they were, their music was bland and unappealing to many,Chris Martin would be an ok singer when his voice breaks!
@Skyeskimmer Why are you telling Christ something He probably already knows?
I've read on YouTube comments that music peaked in the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Now why is that? Could it be that we only remember the good songs? Yeah, I bet that's it.
@Skyeskimmer Christ never did. But it's obvious OMD did.

This song reminds me of a club in my city named Sexton, everybody would get on the floor to dance... How I miss the 80's. Sexton was the name of the club. My city's name is Barranquilla in Colombia.
So ein schönes Lied. Es werden schöne Erinnerungen wach. Zu diesem Lied habe ich meine 1. Freundin kennengelernt. Ach war das schön. OMD ist einfach nur super!
why today nobody makes music like this? Fine, pure, good taste and good style music. Only those cacophonies of black guys pretending being brave, and really being myssoginous.... Miss those times...!
this song take's me right back to junior high school,,as i remember making out with my 1st girlfriend after my last class at the far end of the parking lot!!!! ohhhh what great 80's memories!!!!!!
Remember this one Iska? Bitang? The first few notes of this song and were down on the dance floor! We were deaf by the time we go home at 2 in the morning? I can still dance to this one! Awesome!
If ever a song encompassed the feeling of respectability of Boy meets Girl, then this is it. Just one great song and would be a great 12" dance remix. Hint hint you techno geeks! And I say that lovingly.
This was such a FANTASTIC band...vastly inderrated! This band deserves to be in the RRHOF a helluva lot more than about 90% of those who have been inducted in the last five years!
i dont know what i would have done growing up where i did..ABC OMD Pet shop boys, new order, the smiths, depeche mode...i grew up in the south i was about the only person i knew who was into this music..my family is in the arts..i felt isolated outside the artistic pocket i was in..i truely miss th0ose days..radio is barron agian..always some ones pretty face to sing some one elses boring crap...no more emotion, no more intensity..iots all commerical crap now..long live the 80s
They started by "experimenting with home-made kit-built synthesizers, and circuit-bent radios" and made their own unique kind of music. They made a tour last 2007, "featured a selection of their best known hits, and audience reaction was sometimes so positive, that they saw the crowd on its feet for the entire show that the band seemed surprised and delighted by their applause." -Wiki
My hats off to these great musicians! They are truly one of the best in New Wave history!
i was only trying to catch your eye

Tous ces commentaires ont un caractère nostalgique que j'aime bcp. OMD savait nous faire rêver et on pouvait boire un demi pour seulement 0.50 euros ! ! !

No se como pero espero algun dia verlos tocar, en muletas, en silla de ruedas, con suero! como sea, se reunan y toquen, yo los iria a ver.

This was such a FANTASTIC band...vastly inderrated! This band deserves to be in the RRHOF a helluva lot more than about 90% of those who have been inducted in the last five years!
