  • The #8 will never run on the V&Tand The #29 just pulled 3 cars up from carson last weekend(10/02/2011). She did just fine! Nuff said!!!!

  • madrabidfireman

The #8 will run on the V&T, but the Feather River Shortline is not a valid company in Nevada. They need to become a valid company for #8 to operate on the railroad. Besides, more locomotives means more trains, though #8 will likely be used for the Gold Hill excursions.

  • @SierraRailway This is not true. It has nothing to do with being a valid company as far as running it is concerned. The Virginia & Truckee Railroad Company does not own the #8 and for it to get out of the Gold Hill Historical Society's yard at the Gold Hill Depot, which they lease from Storey County, they will have to get on the V&T railroad's track, not the commissions. This requires a track agreement.

  • I am going to get some recordings of #29's whistle and use it as Sierra Railway 22's whistle on my videos.

  • They should seriously take the combine #25 and put it on the passenger trains. It could SOOO pass for an original V&T car. Now, to find another car or small building for the gift shop...

  • railfan2472

yes, she's awaiting a call to service. she was restored to operable condition prior to the move down to Gold Hill.

  • Why don't they ever run around the trains anymore? it looks better pulling the train tender first than pushing it bay window first.

  • Yeah only the #29 is their locomotive. The McCloud River #18 is in storage at the V&T shops in Virginia City, but is not their engine.

  • what about # 8

  • The Feather River #8 is sitting at the Gold HIll Depot and is currently sitting outside on a siding build by the Gold Hill Historical Society. It was put back together by the V&T RR Company last year to be exact and handed over to the GHHS regarding letigation. I don't see the 8 running on the tracks anytime soon I.E. legal wise.

  • o kool! I know thers some guys workin on a new loco for them. i believe its a consolidation. My freinds just finished the smoke stack for it!

  • This is definately news to me.

  • ya its a project hapening some where in the mid west. I dont know much a bout it but its a real project

  • I think you're talking about the Lyon #1. That is not for the Gray's V&T railway. The Strassburg RR is rebuilding the engine for certain reasons. I don't think they're building it for the Grays. They wouldn't need it for the the amount of power they need today. The Lyon can't pull that much.

  • yea thats it the lyon! I heard they were going to run it on the V & T tho? hum

  • Nah, I don't think the Strasburg R.R. would bother bringing down the Lyon to the V&T unless it would stay, and I highly doubt they would donate it to the Grays. Plus it wouldn't be able to go very far or pull very much at all. Ask Spfilms, he's been talking to the guys building it. Him and I have been planning to build a model of it. We gotta get the right parts first.

  • im pretty sure tho as like 10 of the guys at are club are involved in the project and all have told me it will be running here but idk maybe its another loco???????

  • Yeah it'd be cool if they were donating it to the V&T, cus they have no original V&T equipment, but I'm just being realistic.

  • ya idk tho as all these guys are telling me that its going to the V&T and not once have they mentioned the Strausburg????

  • Yeah SierraRailway is right. There has been talk of it running on the railroad, but as far as having it donated, I don't see that happening. It will not pull those coaches up the hill. The 29 is almost maxed out with those two coaches as they are very heavy being filled with concrete flooring. I'm sure official word will come out in a press release when the Lyon is completed.

  • ok guys, I was wrong and u were right. i talked to the guys at my club the other day and said that it will be a traveling engine like wat u guys r sayin. I thot it was gonna be a V&T engine strictly but i here it will be traveling throughout the US so will be cool to see it!

  • @SierraRailway Which is consistent with what I've read of Beebe and Clegg. The new Lyon is the Strasburg's re-creation of Union Iron Works Ser. No. 11, the first of three 2-6-0's out of San Francisco that were used in the V & T's original construction.

  • DO THEY ONLY HAVE 1 LOCO

  • @CGiordano464 thay have a GE 44 ton diesel and the Feather River #8 also thay just got #18

  • Not quite. The Virginia & Truckee Railroad Company, only physically own the #29 and the D-1 GE 80 tonner. In no way shape or form do they have any ties to the Feather River #8 now. The McCloud 18 is the V&T RAILWAY COMMISSION's locomotive, but will be used by the V&T Railroad Company to haul the Carson City-Virginia City trains.

  • u know what the exact info on the "lyon" is as some guys at my live steam club are working on it and just finished the stack! relly cool its like 9 some feet tall but anyway they say it will be runnning on the V&T u know anything????

  • @spfilms4449 Nice video, just toclear up a few things I see in the comments, the Lyon still won't be an original V&T engine as it's a reproduction. #18 McCloud is owned by a government commission and is only leased to the V&T. There is talk it will be renumbered as a V&T loco. #18 ran its first revenue service recently, there's a video on my virginiatruckee channel. Before that #18 was shipped to Fillmore for work in the movie Water for Elephants. There's a new Alco "D2" diesel, too!
