  • Lol awesome

  • WONDERFUL!!!!!

  • I've lost the narrative thread! haha awesome.

  • I've read that he considers this the most accurate representation of himself that there is

  • :07 'Very' good direction.

  • Picky, picky.

  • -It's pretty

    -....

  • I bet the director of this ad was nervous about directing Martin Scotsese

  • funny

  • i have eyebrows like marty and im a girl lol

  • I can kind of seeing this happening for real...Sort of.

Someone like Martin Scorsese who has an eye for this sort of thing, could pick out the smallest "glitches" in even a birthday photo. He's probably a perfectionist. But that's why he makes the movies he does.

  • @jpd782 yeah on scorsese on scorsese he talked about the commercial and about how you have to be serious about making a picture

  • Genius!

  • I usually don´t like Celebs doing commercial crab, but I have to admid: this one is funny and with wid.

  • I LOVE IT

  • What do you think about that?

    It's pretty

(he looks him like you have no fuckin' idea)

  • I LOVE this commercial! For a guy who notoriously dislikes being in front of a camera, Scorsese is marvelous in this commercial.

  • The man is funny as well as a genius.

  • hehe not only he's a genius, he's pretty hilarious too :D

  • "Hey Timmy, its your uncle Marty, how would you like to turn five again?"

    lol classic

  • Haaaa, fantastic - greatest filmmaker ever :D

  • He kind of reminds me of Joe Pesci in Goodfellas here, in a scary sort of way.

  • That was great!

  • This is so great!!

  • "hey Timmy, its your uncle Marty. How would you like to turn 5 again?"

  • martin scorsese is the greatest director ever! the man's a genius!

lol 'I've lost the narrative thread!"

  • hmmm Goodfellas or THIS short....not sure what's better. BAH ok Goodfellas!

  • I love the way he looks at the guy when he describes the one picture as "pretty". He's the greatest director of all time.

Watch "Scorsese on Scorsese" it's great.

  • That was fucking awesome.

  • the last line is true good

  • Where's the blood?

  • I'm always surprised how adorable Scorsese is lol.

  • 0:12-0:16 was hilarious

  • Comment removed

  • This is cute. Can't deny it.

  • omg. that line is hilarous! "Hey. its your uncle Marty. How would you like to turn 5 again?"

  • kubrick was way more fussy

  • How could I have done this? I've lost the narrative thread!

  • yeah, my brother is like that. He is also a film director and at gatherings when everyone else has their little digital cameras, my bro has to whip out this big expensive camera and take like ten different pictures of the same thing while working out the settings and complaining about the lighting. I'm like, take it easy bro it's just a picture.

  • Heard that this was how Scorsese is l ike in real life-very fussy very much a perfectionist.

  • Thats a good thing ;)

  • How is that kid going to say no to Scorsese?

  • I love this add!!!

  • the final scene in Gangs of New York is absolutely priceless.

  • Absolutely, the best of all those American Express commercials.

  • "Say cheese. Good direction, Marty."

Best line in the whole commercial.

  • Happy Birthday Martin!!!!!

  • "you know you're a filmmaker when.."

  • 1st of all most of the those directors you talkin about probably were inspired by scorseses innovation.

You see what makes scorsese the greatest director in my opinion is the fact that he can make a perfect film, you may not notice it at first but his films are edited, cut and made with the closest attention to detail;this among other things.

what directors were you talking about anyway? i would like too know.

  • i remember watching this ad on tv, and i had absolutely no clue whatsoever who he was, and now hes like my all time favorite director!! scorseses' the man!!!

  • This is so true, and funny. I mean seriously though, almost every shot in all of Scorsese's films is just perfect.

  • how do you figure that out, his probably the greatest film director of this day and age

  • Could be. Or, he already makes a ton of money on every movie he makes (and he can make one whenever he wants) and he made this because it's very funny.

  • "It's... pretty."

    *stare*

    LOL

  • Martin Scorsese should have an Amex Gold Card or a Platinum or maybe a Centurion Card.

  • *laughs*

"Hey! It's your uncle Marty! How'd you like to turn five again?"

    cute.

  • I wanna be 5 again, damn it!

  • Oh come on, it's a fucking advert people! Little common sense would be good. Besides, it's funny!!!

  • tarantino doesn't. the only special effects he may use are hiding the wires of actors doing stuntwork.

  • damn again.. now with scorcese? wtf is wrong with u man...

  • "good direction marty"

"how would you like to turn 5 again?"

    LOL

  • he is so cute!!:)

  • Which ad agency helped to make this, anyone knows?

  • Ogilvy

  • El mejor director del mundo

  • He's lost the narrative thread.

  • Hilarious!

  • That's my boy Marty!! The greatest director on the planet. Fuck c.g.i

  • Marty acually uses CGI in his films now. The guys getting killed in the Departed was CGI. Gangs of new york had heaps of CGI. The aviator was fkin CGI all ova da joint meng./

  • so what? everything advances, buddy.... there's always new technology that sooner or later gets adapted... otherwise, you'd still be having to go to a theatre-and i mean a live theatre, not movie theatre-to watch performances.

  • EVERY director uses it now! TO either remove a wire, or to strengthen an effect, Christ even GEORGE A ROMERO AND JOHN CARPENTER USE IT! The key is to use it effectively, for example, the King Kong remake. SEAMLESS special effects work there, (not that he compares with mr scorsese)

  • So what? You're saying this like CGI is a bad thing. CGI is only bad when it is unnessesary or pointless. Aviator was amazing.

  • CGI is only bad when it looks fake.

  • Nah dude it wasn't CGI, it was just editing done in post-op.

  • The Departed was FUCKING INSANE. What a ride. This is a great commercial, humorous.

  • OMG i love this commercial!!!

  • My favorite living director, and my 3rd favorite counting the dead ones. (After Kubrick and Hitchcock.) I take alot of inspiration from those 3, I hope I can make something anywhere near as good as them one day.

People say I'll never make it, they say those kind of films are "boring" and "dated", un-cultured swines.

  • Not to worry. Just BELIEVE in yourself. Some of us lose our way, but that does not mean we cannot get back on our feet and get started.

  • WHO on earth would call those boring and dated, especially Kubrick?! He was waaaaay before his time. 3 of my favorite directors as well.

And yeah, screw those bastards who put you down. Get em in the crosshairs, and TAKE THEM DOWN.

  • Well Martin definitely seems eccentric, most great directors are. Keep up the great work Sir!

  • marty's next movie is a documentary on the stones called shine a light/2008

  • sweet its prolly going 2 be good

  • I like him better than James Cameron. (Titanic, Terminator, etc. Director, guy with a big head). He seems like a classy, down to earth guy, he's also a great director, I really appreciate his work.

  • he typically has a cameo in all of his films.

just because a movie is a gangster movie does not mean it's the best movie of all time, or even of that year. just because martin scorsese directs a movie does not mean that the direction was better than in all the other movies that year. with that said, kevin costner winning a best director award was an abomination.

  • HAHAHAH! I LOVE THIS BIT!

  • Would Scorsese make a good actor? I think so.

  • He had a small acting part in his own Taxi Driver. He was good. He played a demented passenger in DeNiro's cab. Check it out.

  • He was also in a movie called "Guilty by Suspicion" with DeNiro. He was very good.

  • he was a good actor in Taxi Driver, the guy that wanted to kill his wife

  • of course...because he is a New Yorker!

  • his best is either mean streets, ragin bull or goodfellas

  • There's no plothole. watch the movie again. sheen is surrounded by nicholson's thugs. no good guys, period. They threw him off the roof because sheen wouldn't spill the beans on who the informant was. Departed is a great movie and Scorsese or the editor, Thelma Schoonmaker, would never make a mistake like creating a plot hole.

  • Agreed.

  • I mean you would think it was an even handed fight, worthy of a good struggle, right? noooooooooo, the bad guys somehow managed to right away move the confrontation to a better suited place to fit in with the need to slaughter the Martin Sheen character..look, people wanted Scorsese to win his Oscar, period. The whole thing may have been a blunder by the old editor!

  • Thats my boy Marty.

  • Marty: "What do you think?"

    Clerk: "It's pretty."

That blank look from Martin Scorsese. (I wonder how many nervous NYU film students have received that look after answering a question from Marty.)

Of course, I've lost the narrative thread of this comment and should probably start over again.

  • "Good direction, Marty..."

  • Hacked. LOL

  • I wish he was my Uncle Marty...

  • Good old Marty

  • Fantastic.

  • How could i have never seen this before? LOVE IT!

  • funny

  • how'd you like to turn 5 again? lol!

  • I absolutely love you Martin Scorsese! pure genius!

  • i'd wish kubrick had done one of these...him making an actress cry lol.

  • Yea, that wouldve been awesome!

  • That's a good director for you. All about the details.

  • this is fantastic!

  • Awesome commercial!

  • Ha, green...

  • Still brilliant.

  • This is a hillarious bit with the worlds greatest director, and the worst is that its all true. he is a perfectionnist.

  • isn't Marty Just amazing. He's the very guy who inspired me to do what I do.

  • american express is cool, they did a commercial for m night shamylan too, glad to see the directors are getting the screen in commercials now :)

They just need to get Spielburg and Jackson.

  • He's awesome, so funny!! I watch this many times!!

  • love this commercial - he is the best. Did not think The Departed was his best film but Scorcese is very deserving for previous work. Leo is not Ray Liotta - he and Marky Mark could not really pull it off for me.

  • I love mr. Scorsese. He looks so cute and hansom in here.

Very cute and attractive man. Love to watch this all the time. Love him. Hugs and kisses :)

  • I love this, he is such a doll. Love him!

  • I LOVE THIS GUY!

  • i love him

  • His hair looks weird in this

  • he's the best even doing commercials.

  • very clever, Scorcese is great

  • Justice has been done!!! He finally got best director and best film!!! Thank you...he´s the absolute best!!!

  • I always loved this commercial...

The Departed was not his best.

  • Yeah, I agree..."The Departed" was good, but not Marty's greatest...for me, that would have to be either "Goodfellas" or "Raging Bull"

  • I think The Departed is his best, thats the first movie he won a Best Director Oscar for

  • Departed has a plothole....Goodfellas was his best work ever!

  • what was the plothole?

  • WHen the character played by artin Sheen gets thrown off the roof...at the beginning of the scene he is surrounded by both good and bad guys (The guys who would want to push him down to his death and the guys whom would probably protect him) and not only that, there was quite a distance from where they were and the edge of the roof...think about it!

  • Watch the scene if you have the time and considering the timeline and its constrains whether this scene makes sense to you and why? Like to hear your argument!

  • Are you kidding me? Departed is a good movie. No doubt. Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and Goodfellas are three of the greatest American films EVER made. That Oscar was more of a Lifetime Achievement Oscar for being snubbed by the Academy so many times. No one in film history deserved that Oscar more than Marty.

  • AMEN!

He got royally screwed when they passed him over for Raging Bull.

  • Thank you! You better know it. That AND Goodfellas. You know Goodfellas lost to freaking Dances With Wolves in 1991 for both Best Picture and Best Director? Oy. I was beside myself. Kevin Costner?? You've got to be kidding me. A crime.

  • And "Mean Streets" deserved to win a lot more than "The Sting"

  • Don't even get me started. :)

  • HE WON THE OSCAR FOR BEST DIRECTOR!!!! Yeee-aahhhhh!!

  • I was thinking someone would post after that! heehee

  • he's my god.

  • Hey...does anybody has the whole commercial?

  • This is the whole commercial? Did you see a longer version somewhere?

  • yep, I did see a long version at an TNT's special program about directors

  • Ha! Scorsese is awesome. Apparently he acctually does this all the time when he watches his movies again hehe.

  • This is my favorite commercial. I love it when someone this brilliant can have a sense of humor. Thanks for posting this!

  • i love this man.

  • Say Cheese. Good direction, Marty.

    He's the man.

  • Thats what's great about martin. He can just be silly and still look serious..

  • i didn't even know that was him in that commercial. hah

  • Awesome. I've never seen this before. And now I'm glad I have.

  • now that is fucking funny, Marty should act more.

  • So glad this got posted. Great idea, beautifully shot. Saw it on tv awhile ago and it floored me. Love the Scorsese!

  • Looks like theres a party!

  • Martin Scorsese is a genius.

  • I love this man! He's so funny, so perfecionist, I love him!

  • He he... gotta love the Marty.

  • Watched it several times in two days. It cracked me up. "I have lost the narrative thread"!!

    He lost... the narrative thread!!

    Aaaah!

  • I absolutely love this ad!!!
