  • Really good review. Excellent and honest comparison. Thanks a lot!

  • This is simply a top notch review! Great job and many thanks for taking the time to enlighten us.

  • Excellent comparison!

  • buy Nissin Speedlite Di866 Mark II instead, its much better than 430 and cheaper.

  • @hirvepaska it is compared to 580ex II.

  • watching this video made up my mind which flash to buy. big thanks!!

  • Thank you so much for this Video! I just returned my 320EX and got a 430EX II! It's so much better!!! You post the best videos about cameras, BIG LIKE! :)

  • @siavashaa - Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad I could help.

  • Great review and very useful. Thx

  • your review is very useful. but i found out that the voice level in ur vids (at least the few that i watched) is very low. appreciate it if u can fix it. thanks and nice vid, keep it goin :)

  • Thanks you so much !!

  • Hi!! First of all thank you very much for all ur info regarding light, It is the most important subject. I accidentally bumped into ur vids since then i have subscribed and watched all ur vids.Having said that i dont own a flash light yet, Saving up for 430EX II : ) And once i do i most prolly be signing up for videos.. looks interesting!!!

  • Great Video

  • I saw a video with someone using the 320 ex with a radio trigger, I think it will shoot at full power though, is this right?

  • sorry I didn't get something here !! !

u can't change manually the strength of the flash at all when u using it as a slave or u can still change it via wireless through the 60D system for example ??!!

2nd wouldn't this pre flashes help with red eye reduction ??!!

I thought that's why they stopped this red focus assist light in the first place :|

  • Your review is very helpful. I guess the 320 is not for me then. Thank you!

  • Excellent review, much appreciated! I kind of had the sense that the LED wasn't really going to cut it, and the pre-flash would also drive me nuts. Shutter remote was the nice part.

Just attended Dave Black off-camera flash & lightpainting seminars. Amazing. For using off-cam, would you say the 430 (despite lack of shutter remote & LED) with my T3i acting as master would better serve me in the long run than the 320 could with its nuisances & limitations? Thanks!

  • @elraie66 - Unless you really think you will shoot video with that LED, then I prefer the 430 as a flash in every way, including off-camera.

  • so for someone who would use a flash 100% of the time on camera instead of off, and someone who equally does video and stills on their hdslr, will a 320ex be better than a 430ex ii?

  • @hoyKEBIN - I think that depends on how well you can tolerate the pre-flashes for focus assist on the 320, versus the nice infrared assist on the 430. Frankly, for me, the pre-flash thing is intolerable in event-shooting situations, so I need a 430 or 580 for those shoots. If it's just your family and friends who you are dazzling with the pre-flashes, maybe you can get by with the 320.

  • Great recommendation! and Good vids for comparison! Welldone.

  • Another great review!

If you would be so kind... what video camera and mic do you use to film these videos and what editing software do you use? I love how you insert the still images and create the sounds to go with them. Thanks!

  • @howman26 - Thanks for the kind words. I'm using the Kodak Zi8 lately for the videos, an easy little pocket camera that allows an external mic. The mic is a Audio-Technica ATR-3350 Lavalier. Even though I could record HD video on my Canon 7D, I find the sound recording easier on the little Kodak. Just simpler all around. I edit the videos in Screenflow.

  • Awesome video....as usual. Could you please, when time permits, post a review of

    CANON Macro Twin Lite MT-24EX?

    Thanks so much!

  • Great video! Very informative!!! Thanks :)

  • @gitaraalcaraz - You are welcome! Glad to be of service!

  • cool review. cool end. You definitely seem to be a bit of a fan of beer haha. Keep the videos coming!

  • You should start doing frequent tips and reviews. I know there's youtube pages like digitalrevTV or snapfactory that does this on regular basis, but it's always nice to see what other people have to say.

  • Thanks for the great information

  • Phils programme provides so much information, I purchased it - but as I have been photographing for a lot of years now, a lot was not new for me. So i Emailed Phil about it and he refunded me instantly. I highly reccomend this for beginners/intermediates and even experts.

  • Nice review Phil! Clear, concise and to the point. What was Canon thinking? The LED is a great idea but it functionality is non-existent. Thanks again!

  • Thanks Phil for the tutorial its really helpful. You have help save me some cash which I rather invest on a 430 EX ll and continue using my Paglight c6 kit. I always enjoy your tutorials, you reminds me of one of my former film lecturer @ University of East London in the UK Paul Gormley, you look alike are you related?

  • Good review - I'm definitely NOT buying 320EX

Keep them coming - watching you down here in Cyprus

  • Hi phil, there is also a feature on the 320ex that can make it a camera remote. IE: you can use the 320ex as a remote shutter button, which activates the camera which activates the main flash and slaves (including the 320ex) so you can a bunch of photos with alternate lighting without going back to the camera. Also, it has a built in wireless receiver which can be used with some of the newer canon EOS range. I guess these are more a bit of a gimic, but if the bigger speedlites had them... wow!

  • @forestR1 - I agree that the remote shutter release feature is more of a gimmick and that's why I didn't even mention it. I'd rather use a cable release or dedicated wireless shutter release (both really cheap) than station myself near one of my remote slaves in order to trigger the camera with it. That just seems awkward.

  • Great tutorial... Like always! You really have a gift to explain clearly things. Two thumbs up!!!!

  • @seadoosportster - Thank you!

  • I love all your tutorials. Do you have any for knock off flashes for Nikon? I have the SB900 and am going to invest in more, lower level ones, but realize there are many without the Nikon name that will do the same job, without spending a lot of money.

  • Phil, why don't you do a review on the Yongnuo 565 EX. OMG! I bought two of them! They are awesome!!!

  • Phil! I so like the stuff you create! You're down to earth, Professional and through. Thank you!!!

  • @denmar1998 - Thanks for the kind words, comments like that keep me inspired. Also, I'll consider your separate suggestion about the Yongnuo 565. So far I only buy Canon flashes because I like them all to play together in TTL mode, but I'd love to try the Yongnuo as a cheap alternative for radio triggers.
