I got a Sega CD very soon after it came out. It sucked. The games, in general, sucked. The FMV was terrible even for it's time. Should have upped the color count, as 64 colors did NOT cut it. It was incredibly overpriced. It did have a couple of good games, but it didn't make for the inherent problems of the system. Beginning of the end for Sega. You just couldn't trust them after this.

but all in all i do like sega better than nintendo even with its major flaws

The Sega CD / Mega CD had better games in Japan. We had some good releases in America, but a good bulk of the releases were terrible FMV clones of Dragon's Lair. Oh, the pain.

After Nintendo got uneasy and decided to go with Philips (which got cancelled, leaving Philips with license to use Nintendo properties on the CD-i), Sony got pissed, removed the SNES component, and released the PlayStation as a standalone 32-bit system.

But Nintendo feared that sony would have the rights to the Cd and that Sony is allowed to distribute it. SO that's why that abandoned them. So Ken told his manger and he said the famous line "DO IT".

@Blasted9001 FMV was revolutionary at the time, nothing like it had ever been seen before so it was interesting, it should be judged for the time and compared with everything else that was out then not by what's out now, as you'll never see what the whole deal with it was and what was to appreciate, Mega CD's good for the time, that's why Nintendo took it seriously enough to start plans for it's own Nintendo CD system with Sony, thats how Sony managed to get in with PS1 when the deal broke down.
I had one of these things. Only good game on it was space ace and dragons lair. The rest was trash. Happy I didn't fall for the 32x. AVGN can testify to that!
I like how during this commercial, it totally looked like the Sega CD had any graphic quality at all. (besides the seconds of 'video footage' you see each game)

Nope. Nintendo had nothing to do with the CD-i's history aside from licensing Mario and Zelda to Philips. The CD-i was a totally separate console and was on the market as early as 1991, predating the Sega CD. The "SNES CD" project led to two developments: the Playstation and a Philips add-on that never saw the light of day. Besides, the CD-i is awesome! It weighs close to 20 pounds and has three Zelda games that are so bad Nintendo pretends they don't exist.

@Blasted9001 FMV was revolutionary at the time, nothing like it had ever been seen before so it was interesting, it should be judged for the time and compared with everything else that was out then not by what's out now, as you'll never see what the whole deal with it was and what was to appreciate, Mega CD's good for the time, that's why Nintendo took it seriously enough to start plans for it's own Nintendo CD system with Sony, thats how Sony managed to get in with PS1 when the deal broke down.

I had one of these things. Only good game on it was space ace and dragons lair. The rest was trash. Happy I didn't fall for the 32x. AVGN can testify to that!

Actually, that was Phillips. Nintendo just licensed some Mario and Zelda games to them (which explains why those particular mario and zelda games failed so much).
But nintendo still had something much worse, the Virtual Boy.

Nope. Nintendo had nothing to do with the CD-i's history aside from licensing Mario and Zelda to Philips. The CD-i was a totally separate console and was on the market as early as 1991, predating the Sega CD. The "SNES CD" project led to two developments: the Playstation and a Philips add-on that never saw the light of day. Besides, the CD-i is awesome! It weighs close to 20 pounds and has three Zelda games that are so bad Nintendo pretends they don't exist.

AVGN really overexaggerated it to make his video funny, there are tons of good Sega CD games like Earthworm Jim special edition, Sonic CD, Mortal Kombat 2 with CD quality sound, the Lunar series and many other underrated games. Well, maybe Sonic CD isn't underrated.

Nintendo worked with Phillips to create a CD based add on for the SNES. The deal failed and what we got was the CD-i. I think that's what he is talking about.
