I"m glad I watched this quest and observed how he died....I looked at the timer and it showed 0:58 and I said to myself it's hopeless....just surprised when it suddenly said victory and I thought he just fled...I noticed the way he falls..XD like I said I swear his legs BBQed.

There is a low or high rank quest called the approaching Gaoren, but I have to Solo it! Any weapon/ armor recommendations?

@MH2girl Hammer is very effective on his legs, just Triple-pound spam them XD. Longsword and Lances work well too. I tried Bowgunning that quest a few times, you just need a good gun w/Pierce S and lots o' bombs. You can try to make the Rusted weapons by now (Rusted Stones mined from Volcano) for some good Dragon Element weapons.

Looks awesome, I bought the game 2 days ago, just waiting for it to arrive, can you tell mee if there's any large free roaming levels, because I saw a few videos and the areas seem to be divided into zones rather than a one large level? Thanks ;-)

Also is that blood on it's legs? As in, do wounds appear on monsters as you damage them more?

@TenguMT No free-roamin areas, just zones. Wounds do appear on the monster as you strike certain parts of them and they break. For example, this monster's shell will visibly break as you shoot it. You can also cut off tails, break claws and much more.

Try making a set with Adrenaline +2 and either hammer him on the legs (w/ something like Onslaught Hammer) or Bowgun his legs/shell w/Pierce S.

@MH2girl If you can get your hands on the Rusted Weapons, you may have a chance. Just mine the low-rank Volcano (area 6, 8), get some Rusted stones, then use the Rusted/Ancient Weapons trick:

1. Go to the weapon shop and use the Rusted stones to make a weapon.

2. If you get any other weapon besides "Rusted Hammer/Sword etc.", simply re-load your game file, complete a Gathering Quest, then try it again.

3. Profit!!! (Upgrade your Rusted weapon)

BIG tips: the weakest point of shen gao ren is the nub covered by the lao shan's skull. the only way to hit it is to roll between any of the hind legs and the skull until your inside. once you are inside, BEAT THE SH!T OUT OF SHEN GAO REN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, you can fight him in the last set of HR6 missions if you complete 1 weapon out of each training mission. You can fight the HR9 ones if you complete 1 weapon out of every G-level training mission. I think that you also have to have killed every elder dragon at least 5-10 times, but I may be wrong.

Just suggesting some things to LS and GS users.

1.) Don't focus on the legs for a while. Try hitting below it (the belly, where it is crunchy) with:

a.) upperslash (triangle) repeatedly for LS users.

b.) chargeslash for GS users.

2.) When it stands:

a.) use the dragonator, wisely, at the right time or use the ballistas.

b.) strike the legs

3.) You need a teammate who uses GS for this. When it collapses for a while, set the bombs beside its face and while doing that, your friend starts to charge the GS. That would conflict a lot of damage to it and a slight damage to your friend, but who cares, our objective is to kill it.

Me (LS user) and my cousin (GS user) made these tactics, and managed to defeat the HR9 Gaoren easily.

Bring Large Barrel Bomb+s, use the Ballista Cannons and try using a hammer or longsword on his legs. Strike each one till they turn red, move to the next, then strike them all again till they turn deeper red. He will fall after you turn them all red , which is when yo bomb him. Rinse, repeat.

the trick is to make him flinch right before he attacks the gate,use a fire or dragon element weapon. when he opens lao's shell to blow out that canon thing use the dragonator, it makes him flinch 70% of the time

The key is to just constantly attack his legs, focus on one till it turns red, then move to another one. After that, keep attacking them till they all turn deeper red. Then focus on one of them till he falls for a long time, so you can Bomb him w/ LBB+/LBB/SBBs-followed by a nice long combo to the face. Rinse, repeat till dead/driven away. You can also use the Ballista and Dragonator to speed it up.

That's what Xlink is for there's a little chat window to communicate with your teammates it's a quick and easy download too.

Well text-based, however, if you want to speak through a mic there's always other utilities like ventrilico for that kind of stuff. The bottom line is, if you want to connect with other players you're going to need Xlink Kai, think of it as a seperate network all together where all the monster hunter players will gather together, nowhere else are you going to find them.

Yeah, it is kind of hard to see the Ballista Arrows hitting him, but they are as long as you are pointing them at him and you can see him stagger from them.

Be sure to bring some Large Barrel Bombs to blow him up when he falls to the ground (after hurting his legs)

yes you link your psp up to your coputer via usb then using remote joy stream the fotage to the computer after that you use camestudio or other pc recording programs to edit the video

For the Shen Gaoren, focus your attacks on one leg until it turns red, then move on to the next leg. After all of them are red, then focus on each of them until they turn deeper red. After that, keep attacking any of the deep red legs until he falls down, then use some Bombs (Large Barrel Bomb, LBB+) near his face, then wail on it with your weapon. Rinse, repeat.

He is weak to the Elements Fire and Dragon, so a weapon with either of those attributes will do fine. Good luck :)

Yeah man, they're called "Ballistas" and they are useful for taking a good chunk of damage off the monsters.
