  • Dont buy their seeds they wont come up.You can go to walmart and buy frozen blueberries.Let a couple hand fulls thaw and them mash them up real good.Fill your bowl with water and pour off everything.Seeds fall to the bottom so you can pour everything off the seeds several times and you have good stratified seeds.Let them dry for a day and plant them just like he is doing in the video.Plants will be coming up in a couple weeks.I have some sprouting now that have been planted for only a week.

  • Can you use the wet paper towel method to germinate the seeds?

  • Do I need peat moss? Or can I just use regular soil?

  • Where would be a good place to get blueberry seeds? Or fruit seeds in general? Do they sell in stores or just online sites?

  • I didn't realize they took so long to grow.

  • Will they germinate faster with a heat mat?

  • Peat moss isn't sustainable...Grate softwoods taken over by fungi for a better sustainable medium for plants..

  • Hi, what is the best season to do this? Summer? Thanks

  • Hello and thank you for this interesting video. I planted some blueberry seeds 2 months ago and most of them have germinated! I live in Colombia, 8500 feet above sea level. The temperature is in the high 60´s to low 70´s during the day, and low to high 50´s during the night. I'm 5 degrees north of the Equator so there are no seasons whatsoever. The temperature has little variation over the year and the days are 12 hours long all year round. I will let you know how the plants behave. C.U.Soon!

  • how many years for production quality?

  • Thanks very much. I'm so happy I found this video. Health to all.

  • how long will a cutting/clone live for?

  • nice video. thanks for sharing. :-)

  • whether the seed is to introduce individuals. I would immediately be ordered here?

  • How long does it takes to harvest blueberries?

  • are those seeds open pollinated?

  • i have a few questions: couldn't you crush a few vitamin C pills and dissolve them in a squirt bottle to do the same thing? the fungus spray sounds like chemicals. i'm interested in growing as natural as possible without chemicals.

also, what do you all think of watering with ocean water? supposedly it has all the minerals and vitamins that act like miracle grow or something. perhaps the salt is detrimental?

can i grow in something other than peet moss, or no?

    comments?

  • @lokiguitars I'm not sure if they make such a thing, but maybe you can find an organic fungicide. Ocean water is in fact used to fertilize crops, but not straight from the ocean. The sodium chloride can be removed, leaving mostly minerals like Ca, Mg, K, and a zillion trace elements. There is at least one company in Australia and another in the US which sells the dehydrated powder concentrate. One brand name is "Sea Crop."

Peat moss is excellent, but not by itself. It lacks good drainage

  • @KC1971J and needs to be mixed with pine bark mulch, sand, or perlite. An excellent mix for growing blueberries is 33% sphagnum peat moss, 33% pine bark mulch, 33% sand. Fertilize with Alfalfa meal or azalea fertilizer.

  • have you tried growing Acai berries?

  • ;-) Thank you very much!!! Have a good day man!!!!

  • Thanks for taking the time. Good stuff.

  • How long do they stay in the trays and at what point do you transfer / seperate the plants?

  • When should you plant the seeds for best germination?

  • @sternk13

Blueberry seeds are best started in a controlled situation like in a green house or in the window sill in the house. They are easily started at any time of the year.

  • It is difficult to grow blueberries for more than a few years in a container. I do know of a man in Israel that is growing them in half of a 55 gallon drum and is doing pretty well. A big enough container will work. Plant them in Peat moss and fertilize them with acid type fertilizer.

  • how can i grow blueberries that i can grow anywhere like cause i move around like from house to house im always moving andi want to grow blueberries i can take anywhere

  • Thanks for the seeds. I had one come up before two weeks. I enjoy raising them from seeds.

  • 2:43 = I hope blueberry seeds can swim!!

  • I am just about ready to film part two. I had placed the seeds in the window of a house that was unheated. They took their sweet time to germinate. I now have hundreds of tiny blueberry plants growing in the flat but they are so small that they might not show up too good on film. I will try to get part two up in the next week or so. Thanks.

  • arn't we ready for part 2 on this.....?how are the plants doing?

  • It takes about 6 to 8 weeks to root out a cutting. And you are right it is like a clone of the original bush. Seeds are a good way to come up with new varieties and a cheep way to start lots of plants, but cuttings are the normal means of propagation.

  • do you know how to like..... break the stems off of big plants and reestablish the roots so it's another plant? is that not a good method? it seems like it makes more sense.

  • You are right, starting blueberry plants from cuttings is a great way to go. I am the owner of

Bluegrass Blueberries, a plant nursery that sells blueberry plants all over the world. Almost all of our plants are started from cuttings. Basically you just stick a cutting in damp peat moss and let it root out. A cutting taken of a known variety of blueberry will give you a new bush that is that same variety. A seed on the other hand might revert back to a wild bush or be some new variety.

  • ahhhhhhhhh. so it like has the same DNA as the original.... so it's basically cloning? but it seems like a lot of people who sell blueberries from seeds like to boast that it's not from cloning. is it unethical to do that or does it in anyway affect the berries? also how long does it take to for the roots to come out?

  • @BlueberryGrowers I have some wild blueberries that taste unmeasurably better than the ones in the grocery. Can I use the seed from these to start my own plants? Will that work w/ the method you are showing here and do I have to get the seeds out of their 'berry' packaging first? Any help you can offer will be appreciated. If this won't work, my second thought is to take a cutting from a wild bush. Can I assume it wil start up as easily as you say here?

    thx! :)

  • Great video....I got some started now, another two weeks and I should have sprouts....last year I put them out to early this year I will have more patients

  • We will post a follow up as they grow a bit. We like to grow them to about 3 inches tall or so before we seperate them out individually.

    Thanks, Larry

  • Yhanks for the info I'm starting a blueberry grove from seed can you post a follow-up when they are Sprouting? At what height do you seperate them?

    Thanks again
