The effect was to rotate a 2D image around in a 3D manner, which you CAN do on PowerPoint 2007 as well as 2003 (but, it the lighting effects won't apply if you have a textured image on Office 2003). You can create a 3D tiger using hundreds of custom freeform shapes, but it's really hard to do and won't look good on PowerPoint. Plus, it won't rotate like you would want it to.
