Nice! Thanks for sharing- I had heard about this port years ago but never saw it in action until just now. Looks surprisingly competent, especially compared to other stuff on old DOS machines.
This is a pretty good port of the arcade game, I just wish it was ported to home consoles or would be ported to the XBLA or something. There is a Commodore 64 version of this game but it's not as good.
how did the arcade version beat pc version they took out all the good graphics and voices pcs of that time were capable of this dont lie to me i had windows games on windows 3.1 (thats before win95) and they had voices talking and were on CD...how could they rip out the "WHO THE HELL ARE YOU" I used to lol as a kid when he said that. -_-
@vanamutt43 Just type "The Simpsons abandonware" or something into Google. It's not hard to find. But honestly you're better off just emulating the arcade version. Again, Google is your friend in that regard. :)
@damprumpan No, it's not because Konami lost any license. Actually, they couldn't do it because at that time, the company that had the license to do The Simpsons games for those systems was Acclaim. Konami arrived late for that, and therefore, in order to port this game they could only ensure licenses for home computers.
@Dhalamar Ah, well I think mame is the better option. to me the modded x box version looks even more retro than the actual thing. one other thing, is this game even 4 player on the xbox version or is it a 1 player let down like the one on iphone where it only lets you use homer?
@rob08242010 This is a 2 player port of the arcade version. Unfortunately, there isn't a 4 player option, and the teamup attacks are gone. But other than that it's a fairly decent arcade port.
And the iPhone Simpsons game with Homer isn't even this game. It's something completely different, and was actually originally on the old BREW style phones (with the little bullshit Java games) and was ported/enchanced (somewhat) for the iPhone.
@rob08242010 And, actually, the iPhone Simpsons game is actually halfway decent so long as you treat it as it's own game and don't try to compare it to the much MUCH better arcade cab. :)
@Dhalamar well i made that mistake, thinking it would be an arcade conversion. Having said that its a pretty decent romp and Ive spent many a lunch break playing it.
Of course it isn't arcade perfect. Arcade perfection wasn't even possible back then because the PCs didn't have near enough power to do it back then. Hell, the SNES wouldn't have even been able to do an arcade perfect port. For what it is, it's pretty good considering the hardware they had to work with at the time.
Actually, the SNES probably would have done it justice, other than the 4-player thing. The SNES version of Turtles in Time seems much better than the arcade version, complete with extra levels and bosses.
Yeah, you've got a point there. I think it's debatable whether Turtles in Time on the SNES was better or not since I didn't really care too much about the extra levels. But I definitely see what you're getting at. :)
And? PCs were also pretty much crap for games back then too. heh
And the consoles at the time weren't much better for arcade ports in the late 80's and very early 90's unfortunately.
This game came out at a time before emulation even existed as we know it today, this is what we had back in the day to play the game at home. Now you can just go and download a ROM and play it as it was intended.
Still holding out hope they release this for XBLA or somethin' though. :)
well i know that!!! im just answering that foo Alymero's question.
I doubt that it will be on XBLA or PSN, since century fox has the rights to it and they pretty much sue everyone that touches the game...LITERALLY... unless they decide to put it out on XBLA/PSN
i remember playing this when i was like 5...i was the bomb on this game....but sometimes it hurt my eyes for some reason....wonder why?...still, great game...brings back memories
God, it's great to have this from the PSN. The Arcade classic lives again!

They should have ported this game to the Super Nintendo.. it would probably look a lot closer to the Arcade port.

@rob08242010 I'm very much aware of the existence of MAME ... have been since the mid 90's. But thanks for the suggestion. :)
I play the arcade version of this on my modded Xbox all the time, great to see it on the big TV. hehe

the game is missing ALOT of sprites, no 4 player co op(2 player) and the quality of the game is poor...
