  • How does it taste?

  • Hey man, looks like you know what you're doing. Can you make a full detailed video on making moonshine please. Also, does it have to be a pressure cooker?

  • thank you :)

  • i have a question... how do you cut 190 proof down to 90 proof? thanks

  • @mamabunny03 All distillers mix it with purified water to lower the proof to an even number they can sell. So if you mix a quart with a quart of water you cut the proof in half. So 190/2 is 95. Then you could slowly cut it more if you have a hydrometer. BTW I don't use this setup anymore, this was just an experiment.

  • sorry **120proof** i know this was about to make you butt-hurt again.

  • @RedMojaveBraveUSMC I'll just drop some knowledge on you to help others that are looking for info on distillation. 1. Who drinks shine for the taste? 2. Quality is not judged by the proof. 3. Pot stills produce shine about 130 proof, Popcorn uses a pot still. More runs can increase the proof. 4. Reflux stills produce neutral spirits at around 190 proof with cleaner taste for vodka or gin.

When you talk shit on Youtube & that's all you do, you're a Troll. Don't be a Troll.

  • @SolarBurrito Whats wrong with me being a D-Bag its a life choice, are you against that? You obviously dont know who popcorn is, anyway you feeble minded fuck. He has 180proof shine which factually is better than your 80 proof shine, which is better than my 0 proof shine. So what if I haven made shine? Your shine is WORSE than popcorns, that is a fact. dont drag my lack of shine into this.

  • No offence but i bet it was shit compared to popcorn's shine.

  • @RedMojaveBraveUSMC It's always D-bags like you with no videos that make douchy comments like this. I just checked out all the other BS comments you made on other people's videos. Make your own shine.

  • @RedMojaveBraveUSMC What Popcorn made was poison. He fermented in a wood barrel which makes most of his batch Methanol.

  • WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS TO MAKE THE MOON SHINE?!?!?!

  • @ashlywat Water, sugar, yeast is the simplest way.

  • if you want to mae small amounts add 1 pound of corn meal to 1 pound of sugar, then add 1/2 gal of luke warm water, shake, then ad one packet of yeast, shake, then fill the rest if the distilled water to about two inches from the top then get a 3 chamberd air lock(found on ebay for about a buck) and fir it to the cap of your container. then puit a little water in the air lock to make the seal, then wait for five days to let it ferment. there you go...

  • How much shine out of an 8quart still would be methanol?

  • @1deidrich depends a lot on your mash. you should always toss out the first shot glass to be safe. a good habit is to separate your first cup or so of distillate into small portions, then smell and taste a small amount. if it smells/tastes sweet, it contains methanol. you may have to taste it your first few times, but after a while youll be able to smell it easily. after methanol youll get heads, which arent poisonous but taste nasty and youll want to redistill those

  • @1deidrich Try smelling it. As long as it smells like fingernail polish, get rid of it. But with 8 quarts you're looking at about 2 fl oz. I'm working on a nice 8 quart myself.

  • @TheSoapyJew Most alcohols will have the same smell to the human nose. Typically the 10% of a distilling run, if you will, contains methanol. That is a safer rule of thumb than just smelling it. Not bashing you, just don't want anyone getting poisoned.

  • @hellbilly007 If I will? I will not. "A simple rule of thumb for this is to throw away the first 50 mL (reflux still) you collect (per 20 L mash used), or 100-200 mL from a pot still."

Jeff King; King, Jeff (2012-01-24). The Home Distiller's Workbook - Your guide to making Moonshine, Whisky, Vodka, Rum and so much more! (The Home Distiller's Series)

  • what did you use to keep the copper to the lid of your pot

  • @texaschilibowl50 Probably a compression fitting.

  • i know results very but can i get close to whst you get with a 8 quart pressure cooker

  • thankyou this is a really good video it helped me out alot and gave me alot of ideas for my home still

  • do you have to do a second distillation

  • @blackdre36 No

  • do you have to distille the shine

  • @blackdre36 What are you talking about? This is distilling to get the shine.

  • how long did it take to make the final product

  • @blackdre36 with this small system only about 40mins

  • Do you have a video on making the mash too?

  • @jerrylee1952 No but it's really easy. Just like you'd make beer. Try turbo yeast with 10lbs or sugar in a 5 gallon bucket then top off with water. Get an air lock going to keep it clean and warm for 3-5 days.

  • no distilled alochol is poisionous the government has made it so companys that make alcohol which isnt for drinkn to put the poision in because they dont tax on it

  • @wattsnick30 lol nice

  • @Paddytheyankbastard You are right in concept, but not in practice. High (80F or so) temperatures, light, and wild yeast can all produce extremely small quantities of methanol, but these only occur when the brewer is careless. Methanol is also one of the chief "impurities" in booze that causes a hangover.

On this note, to all my fellow home-brewers out there- be careful with your stuff. You aren't going to go blind, but could be in for a hell of a headache in the morning...

  • Bet that taste awful

  • well, regular fermentation also creates a small amount of methanol. however, because methanol evaporates faster than ethanol it is easily removed from the final product by disposing of the first few ounces of spirit as it comes out.

  • whats the ingrediants or recipe for making shine?????

  • @MrChappie1971 Water, Yeast and a source of sugar (grains, molasses, sugar, etc...)

  • use copper or stainless thats what i was told from the ol timers

  • @wattsnick30 actually if you don't distill some types of alcahol, like making vodka spirit, it can be poisonous. It won't change into ethonal but another chemical which is harmful.

  • Thinking of trying this just to distill Absinth .. how long does it take to condense 1 qrt?

  • Water from sink cooling/draining lines like this are the way to go. The copper gets hot enough to put welts on you. You have to keep the copper cool and this is the way to go otherwise you will not keep up with ice cooling as it will melt quickly and your bucket water will become a hot tub.

  • Methanol, not aluminum, was the culprit behind blindness in illicit spirits during prohibition. The reality is that the blindness stories were overblown by the government to scare the simple minded from drinking moonshine. There is no scientific evidence linking aluminum cookware with any disease of any type. That being said, the primary reason copper is the preferred metal by all serious distillers, legal or illegal, it it's ability to remove unwanted flavor compounds from the spirit.

  • @stwilegar Thank You! No one can provide a single solid article about aluminum being unhealthy. Old wives tales.

  • @SolarBurrito Right on. If you look on Alzheimer sites, you will find that the hypothesis of aluminum being the cause of the disease has been largely debunked. The only real issue that I can see regarding aluminum as it relates to shine is that it doesn't lend itself to the best tasting product. If you ever get serious about it build yourself a pot still from copper. Do a bit of research and you will understand why, if you don't already. Mathew Rowley's book "Moonshine" shows you how...

  • @SolarBurrito you dont want to use aluminum cookware because it oxidizes after 3 uses ... plus aluminum just isnt healthy... i am a welder by trade and it is highly toxic when heated to melting point even though you wouldnt be getting it that hot i couldnt imagine it would be too much healthier to use in a still

  • @SolarBurrito , isn't aluminum, or more specifically the element, alumina, directly linked to an increased risk of alzheimers? also, good job with the video, little short, but good.

  • @dogwood912 Toothpaste with Fluoride is worse even yet! I cook all my popcorn on aluminum all the time for the last 30 years. 57 now. Doing OK.

  • @ThinkPureTruth , the effects of long term exposure to aluminum, are not instantanteous, they come on suddenly, as the central nervous system is attacked.

  • @dogwood912 I guess I should forget about the future if I continue popping popcorn in my aluminum pan! So, what would you suggest? Cast Iron? I use 100% pure virgin coconut oil. Should a copper pot be better? I have never seen one. I am 57. Thanks DogWood! Art

  • @ThinkPureTruth , stainless steel, with a copper base.

  • @dogwood912 Gotcha! I will try my expensive 5 layer stainless steel. 1000$ set. It has alloys and copper on the inside. In the past on other stainless pots, the popcorn stuck and burned. The aluminum with the coating it now has is not a problem. So, thanks, I will make popcorn tomorrow in the better pot and let you know!!! At least I may stop the process of my brain frying before 60, I hope.

  • @SolarBurrito alluminum is very toxic, that's why they are in the chemtrails and all your food is processed in alluminum. It creates a highly acidic environment in your body which leads to disease. Big pharma loves it.

  • @stwilegar methanol came from dumbasses that would buy shine from a moutaineer then they would add wood alcohol or methanol or denatured alcohol, whatever you call it, they would add this to double or even triple their sale,

  • @stwilegar Amen! Finally someone gets it right! Just to add to your factual statement, Methanol (Wood Alcohol) and other similarly crazy elements were added to concoctions to create illicit 'drinking alcohol'. Drinking very little Methanol would destroy the Optic Nerve. Ethanol, or Ethyl Alcohol, is what the fermentation of sugars produces. This is completely different that Methanol. You can not create Methanol through the fermentation of distillation process.

  • @stwilegar Your right on all counts except the aluminum thing.

Its been shown to lead to altzheimers if its congeners are taken out. Google ftw.

IE Aluminum foil on a BBQ, or Aluminum in a STILL.

  • @stwilegar aluminum is rumored to lead to alzheimers. It may prove to be false someday, but until then Id use SS, it only costs like $10 more

  • @stwilegar im sure youve all read it, but a book called ALCOHOL CAN BE A GAS by David Blume is a very good informative. j.d.Rockerfella was the culprit of all anti alcohol campaigns due to his 'discovery' of dirty toxic petroleum. Ford had no choice but to comply, as also the Prohibition, German ALC'industry was used to slander anyone making alcohol as a sympathiser during the war. its been a one horse race ever since. you might catch a david blume video on youtube or check amazon (lookinside)

  • Do you by chance notice any dark residue left on the inside of the Al cooker after distilling?

  • Al is not good to use & not just with stills. People fail to realize is that acidity will liberate Al. Look at an OLD Al pot it will probably have small pits on the inside. This would be due to cooking things like spaghetti sauce! Mmm, nothing like a lil Al oxide for that extra zing! Cans today have a special lining to keep the caustic coke/pepsi from eating the Al & I can def taste the dif between can & glass. Food for though: People with Alzheimer's have high levels of Al oxide in the brain!

  • In my opinion, Al cookware should be taken off the market all together! It may work well for my gutters but not my gut! All metals will eventually corrode and/or react but, when it comes to cooking, none less then SS! However for stills, copper is just a little better than SS for the simple fact that copper is less reactive with the handful of chems emitted while distilling alcohol but, they are relatively equal and safe to use.

  • go blind from an aluminum pressure cooker, no brother thats just really good moonshine! haha

  • My good ol buddy hillbilly went blind from a alumanum, be careful

  • please tell me your pressure cooker is not made of alumanum you will be making poison in your moonshine it can make you blind or sick or even kill you .

  • @serger2010 Do you have a a link to a scientific article that proves that? I've looked and haven't seen anything, only people arguing about this on the forums. People cook in aluminum, its a rumor as far as I can tell.

  • @SolarBurrito my uncle has been making hooch for 43 years he is now 72 I have been told from him that the stainless steel or copper is the only safe way to do it. aluminum leaches off cas with the alcohol uncle ben is 3rd gen mooner I would take his word for it. GOOD LUCK TAKE CARE.

  • @SolarBurrito The people on the home distiller forum are of the opinion that a still should only be made of copper and stainless steel. Alcohol is a solvent. So the hot alcohol might be leaching things from the aluminum. I personally wouldn't trust aluminum for a still. If aluminum were a good material for a still, then commercial distilleries would be using it. As far as I know commercial distilleries only use copper, stainless steel, and glass.

  • @SolarBurrito

They put plating on some aluminum to make it shiny- It's poisonous.

  • @SolarBurrito Cooking food is not the same as distilling alcohol. Ethyl alcohol corrodes aluminum. This will cause aluminum to be part of the final product. It's not poisonous, but it effects the quality. Besides, aluminum is not a natural part of any food product. Why ingest it if you can avoid it?

  • @SolarBurrito it makes you go blind or dead just trust people from the 20s it could have just been the crappy mettle but i would just use stainless to be safe

  • ill have a look but in Australia so prob little more lol

  • This is buckhorn wilderness checking you out , what is it about backwood people , my still is made out of a stsnless steal keg and it works great. By the way Buckhorn wilderness is on the Dungeness river of the Olympic penninsula. Google earth has a pic called the trail to Oz just before the cabin.

  • Looks like goooood stuff.....HeeCuup.....HeeCuuuuup....Whoa!

  • you can just do sugar glucose and yeast will work how much u paying for them pressure cookers? im looking for something with a lid like that that can be drilled into

  • @chaosinhell666 Pressure cookers can be spendy if you get them new. I got this bigger one at the thrift store for $20. Seattle prices, probably less if your in the stix.

  • Very nice. What were the ingredients that you used?

  • @tomperanteau The was was made of water, apple juice, sugar and yeast.

  • @SolarBurrito hey, does the apple juice have any affect on the taste of the moonshine?
