FYI:Sticks are just for training purposes and are just substitute for blades and daggers. You can even apply that on a pen as a rudimentary weapon on emergencies to disarm a knife.
ahaha i always love seeing the fat guy with the pony tail swinging a sword around with no idea what he is doing. go back to your mothers basement loser
actually filipinos used rattan and mobinogi sticks against swords very successfully rattan is very resistent to splintering making it ideal to use against bladed weapons mobinogi is nicknamed iron wood since it is as hard as iron, resistent to splintering, etc. however now it is endangered a tree the kali fighting style is often very under estimated so guys saying the swords would easily slice through the sticks you're quite wrong but of course it depends on the fighting skill of the fighters
@hobojoe357 I Agree...Ive actually been taking modern arnis classes (for those wondering, it is the original forms of filipino martial arts) and the rattan sticks i use are quite durable. they are light but when handled properly are actually quite deadly in experienced hands
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
yeah a real sword would just cleave through his sticks. this is retarded, I'm sorry guys. And why does every martial arts class have a slightly overweight guy with a ponytail?
why do people comment that arnis/eskrima would lose easily when the opponent use real swords? Don't you know that those wooden sticks are just used for training/sparring? Try doing your research before you just say something like that because those wooden sticks are substitutes for daggers, machetes, bolo, etc.
The bloke with the longsword was not trying to hit, and therefore going slower than he could; whereas the bloke with the 2 swords was moving almost as fast as he would normally, thus already making this vid quite rubbish and not a fair sparring match
Hi zukuru, I really appreciate your videos, it's just that I personally know what it's like. It's fun to 'practice', but it's not the same to fight with protections. If your enemy is protected you will be free to hit him, not just do everything in slow motion, as the first 20 seconds of this video shows.
The japanese probably did a lot of kata with bokken, I don't really know.
Check out my videos, you can see we use some basic protection, but very useful and liberating.
tx, I think you picked one of the rare of the videos online, which are zero contact sparrings - majority is with gloves and fencing mask - full contact - ...
at that point it depends on the fighters on who wins. personal skill can defeat even the most unstoppable fighting styles. so the broadsword users' skill decides who wins at that point
right, the force of the longsword WOULD break that defense open like an egg. But if it was a REAL fight, the double user would be using more blocking strength, or a better parrying ability. this is why i dont *cough* CAREFUL fighting with swords, the kinds i use dont hurt nearly as bad but are just as good and cheaper
It strikes me (ha) that the longsword-wielder is at a bit of a disadvantage - if they weren't sparring, the force of his blows would give him an advantage...I think pulling his blows since they're sparring is costing him in speed and parrying ability.
krabi krabong structure with the double sticks! glad to see the art growing internationally!!! btw is that a filipino 2 hand sword system or something else?
A: orthodox german longsword will never win against someone decent with florentine... period.
B: These guys probably aren't trying to show off anything. This was likely an average sparring match someone happened to tape. That doesn't seem hard, but after a couple hours, you can barely lift your arms.
C: There's nothing wrong with that as a sport. I've been doing it for 5 years and plan on always fighting. You can watch some of my videos to see what I mean.
the Zweihänder pwns the sticks in a serious sparring range and Impact power are far greater but he must land 1-2 clean hits else he is screwed because of the hitfrequency of the sticks
If you are going to post your skill for the world to see, why not actually strike like it could be your last and take a few (even small) bruises and not laugh at each other like a couple of idoits?
I recognize that German style art!!! I thought it was Fiore at first (Italian) for the first three seconds. Everyone has to note that the European sword user here is practicing an art that nobody fully understands yet as we're still digging it up. Plus, it was a Crusader-type development also for knights in armor (in which case power and side-stepping was key).
I still like Fiore's simple, can always win, posta longa. If he used her, the two-sword master would have some difficulty.
dang fatty moves so slow, if you v.s. dual you have to be a lot faster and not spin in circles... i'm really good with the short stick and the sword has to keep up and get out of the striking zone, this guy sucks
dang fatty moves so slow, if you v.s. dual you have to be a lot faster and not spin in circles... i'm really good with the short stick and the sword has to keep up and get out of the striking zone, this guy sucks
a sword can easily cut through these sticks if they wanted to . .so from the start.. sword owns . but .. if the two sticks would be alluminium .. the swordsman . .would be in a lot of trouble .. dual wield is the best imo
wow... i can't believe it. two tick are no challenge for bastard sword. This "stick-man" should be dead i two moves... there is very small chance to win using stick against sword!!!
actually it all depends on the user, in this case the double stick user knew how to beat the man with the sword and was able to block it and go for an open spot much of the time.
I remember the history of the philippines..when magellan arrive in the philippines they encounter tribesmen in MACTAN...Magellan was defeated and get lost...
nerds =/ no offense but I'm a proffesional at this (it's my job) I work with all kinds of festivals for sword stunts. This is sadly pitiful, sorry but you guys lower your gaurd constantly and never strike (It is true that the best defense is offense)
Well, let's face it. Part of the video is made up of them just feeding eachother to practice what looks like a few couter maneuvers, and the other half they're just, as you say, lowering their guards for whatever reasons. That, and they seemed a little stiff in the stances once in a while.
is this supposed to be a demo or are they sparing because the guy with the sword was taking to long to make any strikes and leaving his gaurd open everytime leaving the escrimador to hit him numerous times .... soo pritty much the escrimador coulda kicked his ass in like 2 seconds if he wanted to.
Also one more thing. Those double sticks could very easily be double swords in a "real fight", meaning many of the escrimadors counters would in fact work.
I must involve myself in the discussion; there was clearly a couple of times when the escrimador didn't bother to either check or block the longsword, and sometimes counters were not enough to fatally wound the sword wielder, which in reality would mean that the escrimador gets sliced open and the sword guy walks home bruised (but one pair of sticks richer).
Perhaps he was holding back so he wouldn't bust up his partner. No in fact I know that's why, stop thinking about the outcome of fights that aren't going to happen and be more perceptive.
Depend though , weapon that are light and short enough with only space with one hand tend to be used one handed or dual wield . Weapon that less balance , slightly heavier by a pound ( longsword and two handed Axe weigh around three pound , a 10 pound longsword are uselss and to heavy to swing ) , having space for two hand and have longer reach need to be used by two hand . But using wooden stick against weapon made out of steel is suicide .
Hey MingTheMerciful - your absolutely right in your comment. Pls be aware, that the Longsword AND the sticks are wooden - just a sparrings session - but I think, that some ebony or kamagong sticks (85 to 90 cm ) would be useful against a metal longsword.
im putting my money on the short swords... because they are soo much faster than the longsword... oh & you dont need to block a hit from a sword to win a fight, you can just parry the opposing sword(s) away from you then come in for a hit...
perhaps barimbo needs to check what happened to the spanish soldiers in philippines. there is a reason why 2 short swords were usd there to fight the spanish soldiers. Empirics says that longswords is always in disadvantage to a 2 short sword fighter, given that both knows what they are doing.

Not at all if the longsword fencer uses his reach effectively, which this guy was not doing. Hard to do at speed with wooden wasters and no protective gear. Some twitch cuts and a few stop-thrusts would put and end to a lot of that rushing in the stick-guy does
Yeah, i think that the longsword would be at much less of a disadvantage against the double swords in an actual combat situation than it is here; mainly because the one with the double swords would simply be unable to block the longsword with such ease as is done here, and therefore would be unable to riposte with ease. It really matters on the skill of the fighter, not the weapon itself. Whether in sparring or in battle you have to look for openings in your opponents defenses and when they'll strike accordingly.
