  • This was the era when music was MUSIC! Not the rehashed, borrowed, disrespectful garbage that is forced into the mainstream today.

Bons tempos...

  • What a great Jimmy Webb song! The wrecking crew laying down the music and the 5th Dimension doing a great vocal. Doesn't get any better.....

  • when listening to hot ride by the prodigy i was like 'i've heard this somewhere before' lol.

  • In 1967 I was 11&this song was all over the radio, I could not get enough of this song&still love it after all these years.

  • CLASSIC, EPIC, TIMELESS! L.O.V.E.

  • Alan Harper's ringtone!! (Two and a Half Men)

  • why was there an ad in the middle of the song? yuk .. it deflated my baloon. 5th Dimension rules

  • I don't know either but I think that perhaps it is a new function in YouTube video.

    Otaku3 (^_^;)

  • listening to the vocals and knowing this is 1969 Wow!

  • Thanks! How did you even think of this song. I sure am happy!!

  • You're welcome, MsNayners24-san!!

This song always makes me feel so happy.

    Otaku3 (*^_^)b

  • Webb you genious! Consider he crashed his glider in the mountains and saved his cover artist from hypothermia.I'd do it too! So many resources for song literature. Thanks Jimmy.

  • song makes me happy

  • Did you know that this is a drug song? Junkies used to buy their fix, and it was given to them in a kid's toy balloon (deflated), and they'd carry it home in their mouths.

  • Tchaikovski blessed Jimmy!!

  • Nice!

  • You're welcome, conservativeheart1-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^o^)/

  • UP UP AND AWAY ,.. 5th dimentional sweeping changes,.. this will be fun :)

  • Captain...the nostalgia factor is off the chart. Damn, forgot how beautiful Marilyn McCoo was...

  • This reminds me of one of my favorite summer's in my life. Love this song!

  • Thank you for posting.

  • You're welcome, n64wilbert-san!!

  • Whenever I hear this song, it reminds me of that episode of Fresh Prince of Bel Air when Carlton was dancing to it. lol Nice song, though.

  • Thanks for posting!!! As if I needed more proof that today's music sucks. : (

  • You're welcome, TPBass1224-san!!

  • The best song of The Fifth Dimension!!

  • is there a digitally remastered version of this song

  • Timeless classic. Sounds other worldly. This song was playing in my mothers hospital room when she was going into labor. I was born the year this came out!!

  • Timeless classic. Sounds other worldly.

  • This song was used on a Trans World Airline commercial back in the day. My Dad worked for the airlines for 35 years, This song reminds me of traveling and growing up at SFO airport....

  • The Immortal Jimmy Webb, Here's to ya

  • @TejMulen That's certainly not what your girlfriend said last night.

  • @TejMulen Your mother's ancient.

  • Ahhh, the legendary Hal Blaine on drums. Also drummed on "Wedding Bell Blues" and "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In".

  • This is Alan's ringtone on Two and a Half Men.

  • Special thanks to Johnny Rivers, Jimme Webb and Burt Bacharach for introducing and writing such beautiful music for the 5th Dimension

  • Una de mis canciones favoritas de siempre..

  • Great sound quality.....brings me back to being a kid and riding to the beach in the back of the family station wagon!!

  • It's odd to think that somewhere in the fifth dimension, this song plays on a constant loop.

  • Despite the fact the 1960's were a troublesome decade (Vietnam, JFK, Robert Kennedy. Dr King and the civil rights movement), its music was truly unforgivable. It reflected a sweet, heartwarming and purely artistic sound that is missed nowadays. And it is not because today's artist are bad, no, is because the 60's era was a time were many things were discovered and many liberal ways to think. "Today is all about ratings, and a compitition for how many hits you have in the tube.

  • @nelsitoify1 ~The 60s were unforgivable, huh?

  • @TejMulen so is king tut's tomb, but it's still beautiful

  • Back 44 years ago each musical group or solo act played and sang songs in their own individual style. Today's music is "cookie cutter" material. There is no soul and no heart in today's music like there was from the music of the late 60's to the mid 80's.

Listening to this song brings me back to when life was fun and care-free, just like the fun and care-free sound of this song.

    Thanks for posting.

  • @civlwarnut218 Not true. Motown - among other labels - were factories where songs were written for any number of acts in a studio's stable. Only a handful of people actaully sold songs and most American mainstream acts; Sedaka, C King, Diamond, Bacharat, Dylan wrote for scores of artists and there were plenty of pre-fabricated bands. (Monkees, 3 Dog Night, et al). Years from now, the kids will be saying about their music what you are saying about ours. We romanticise because get got old.

  • @arkady714 Yes, the Brill Building songwriters were a type of popular music factory. But here's where you are wrong: "Years from now, the kids will be saying...what you are saying about ours." Those songwriters that you disparage wrote music that is far more interesting than the crap that is corporately chosen and controlled from the get-go. Take any musical element: harmony, melody, meter, rhythm, phrasing...60s to mid-80s music is more varied and, by any musical measure, just better.

  • This was a #1 hit in Australia...

  • Beautiful. I wish the 90s an 00s music weres as good as this. long live the 60s 7s and 80 music.

  • absolutlely timeless, if you heard this song on your car radio today, you would want to pull over and wonder where in the hell did this masterpiece come from. The number one fell good song of all time!

  • Bring back the music of 1967,68 and 69. let it live forever!!!!!!

  • I grew up with this song since i was a kid in the 80's and has been one of my favorite songs and i loved it how they used in American Pop (1981 animated movie)

  • It is because this song was released 44 years ago.

    Otaku3 (^_^;)

  • I love it! Thank for posting.

  • You're welcome, valjazz-san!!

  • have always loved this song

  • Credit must be given to the great Jimmy Webb, the guy who wrote this song. He also wrote "McArthur Park," "Galveston," "Wichita Lineman." One of the great songwriters of our era.

  • #112 best songs of the 60s up up and away...the 5th dimension

  • We'll search the clouds for a star to guide us

If by some chance you find yourself loving me

    A VERY NICE SONG.

  • deliusism1,

  • This has been one of my favorites for a very long time. Such a wonderful, happy, upbeat song, unlike the dark and angry garbage that gets inflicted upon us so often.

  • @AdmiralCSN What a perfect sentiment. I totally agree.

  • A favorite.

  • I always thought this was Sergio Mendes. And when I was a kid I thought this was an airline commerical.

  • This was my one of my class Glee Club songs. We loved it!

  • Every teenage couple has a "song". "UP UP AND AWAY" was, and still is, "our song". At a prom in 1968, we went with other people to the prom. When the orchestra began playing this song, my boyfriend left his date, and my date stranded on the dance floor, and said, "nobody dances to "our song" with her, but me!". That's when I knew we truly were meant for each other, forever. Dating other people couldn't break us up, or "our song" !

  • TWA Jetstream 707

  • @MerleOberon I was a flight attendant for TWA for 35 years!!! My first trip was on a 707...as the passengers boarded, the plane's music system played this song! What memories! Thank you :)

  • One of the innumerable tracks featuring the great playing of legendary drummer Hal Blaine and others in the Crew

  • thasooooooooomuchive beenn loking for this very group and cool magical song ive heard years agoalsome

  • Happiness?!?!?! What a concept!!!!!!!!!!!!! Make's great music too! ANYONE under 50 yrs old needs to be treated like Wednesday was in Addam's Family values they need to be locked away in a small cabin and be forced to listen to songs like this one so they might get a clue as to what real music is like! PEACE

  • Love it! Those are voices!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was 10 years old, but had older brothers and sisters that played this music.

  • I adore this song, why cant they sing about good natured things like this!

  • Three words: Alan Harper's ring tone

  • What does your comment mean? ?

    ...Otaku3

  • @60otaku3 google it. Alan Harper from the tv show Two and a Half Men (a US comedy show). It's his phone's ringtone. It's a running joke in the show.

  • Because I do not know Alan Harper and that TV show, I cannot find about it in Google.

Probably most Japanese people will not know them.

And after all... is it related with this song??

    ...Otaku3

  • @60otaku3 Yes, it's the song that plays on his phone every time it rings (his ringtone).

  • Thank you for explanation, DieselVR6-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)b

  • @DieselVR6

lmao @60otaku3 . only reason why this song is so popular is because of two & a half men <3

  • @xcaliburlol B.S.!!!!! This song has been around before anyone ever even had cable or dish t.v.!!!

  • The sweetness and innocence of the late 60's. Beautiful music for the sake of beautilful music. This song and many more by the 5th Dimension. Thank you for the memories...

  • You're welcome, donaldpattersonjr-san!!

  • @lvail92 yea come on then

  • The one person that disliked this deserves to be castrated

  • My father introduced me to this group. He had the 8 track. Wow been awhile. Very classic and melodic group.

  • @99thmonkee CIA/Tavistock/MI6 killed lennon watch?v=VwGNrpX8KCM

  • I love the artwork on the album sleeve, oh yes great song.

  • If this song takes you back to the Summer of '67, consider yourself blessed to have been born during the greatest era of music! We took this music for granted back then, we thought the hits would never end. Now we come here to blog, giving our belated thanks for an era of music gone from our current everyday lives.

  • @trinitylancer If good popular music hadn't fizzled out by the beginning of the 1980's we would have discovered new uncharted heights and new sounds, something worth talking about in years to come. As it is now, we'll have to start again from scratch when the time comes....

  • @trinitylancer - I totally agree with you. It is a bitter-sweet feeling reminiscing that era. Thank God for YouTube. (Facebook can disappear and I wont care but please not Youtube. It is my only connection to the blissful past right now.)

  • Vivid memorys of this being played on the radio everymorning back in the so distant early 70s . When i used to get ready for school .

I don't know about anyone else but if your around my age how come you never remember those rainy days , only sunny days from childhood .

  • I miss them so much!

I miss this sound - pop jazzy sound!

  • @UNIT4PLUS1 Aye exactly my thoughts

  • @UNIT4PLUS1 huh?????

  • makes me think of careena when she was with kevin and we were all living high up in the california mountains

  • you know if they have ties with the illuminati?

  • my mum calls condoms balloons.

  • the most beautiful song iv'e ever heard,

  • The Fifth Dimension performing Jimmy Webb's classic upbeat song.

Those of you who think Mr. Webb should receive Kennedy Center Honors, raise your hand.

  • was PAN AM or TWA?

  • In those days this song was used as a advertising jingle of Trans World Airlines and Trans Australia Airlines.

    Otaku3 (^_^)b

  • @60otaku3 I rember the TAA commercials. I flew TAA

  • Unluckily I have never watched that commercial.

It is because the commercial was unpublished in Japan....

    Otaku3 (^_^;)

  • @georgemb61 TWA. I still can't believe both TWA and PanAm (and Eastern, number one to the sun) are gone.

  • PAN AM? wasn't TWA?

  • @georgemb61 ...and TAA in Australia :)

  • This wasn't a drug song. Actually it was a song that helped the mood of America in a deep, dark troubling time. Forward movement, upward growth, and universal love were the mindset of this era. Well evil has taken hold now, & universal hatered has given this music, & similar ideology the boot. Thanx republicans.

  • Very good and catchy songs

  • @collegeman1988 oh the humanity.

  • @collegeman1988

The Hindemburg Zepplin fire in American territory was CRIMINAL.

  • @collegeman1988 Hahahaha.... That is SO MUCH like something a buddy of mine and myself would have come up with back in the 60s! Thank you for that! :-)

  • I was wrong. It was TWA Airlines,I remember the slogan, Up Up and Away, with TWA.

  • This was featured in the old PAN AM Airlines comercial in 1969 or 1970. Great Song, great memorires, 60 Otaku3-san!, you've outdone yourself. 5 stars for the upload.

  • Thank you so much, MrMotownmanny-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^o^)/

  • @MrMotownmanny ....almost right. It was TWA....remember? Up, up and away....TWA!!

  • @MrMotownmanny I knew I wasn't that crazy because I remember hearing this song in the 70's for Airline commercials, but I thought I was just imagining it

  • DRUGGIE SONG, NO DOUBT!

  • @uncoverbrother Maybe druggies USED it as their song...BUT it's writer, Jimmy Webb got the concept form attending an actual Hot Ait Ballon festival in California. The meaning behing the song is QUITE innocent.

  • Another great memory. Thanks!!

  • Thanks again for your comment, Greg98233-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)b

  • This is a GREAT song to Masturbate to..... Up Up and away in my mangoo filled balloon! Or have like 10 guys jacking off above a crowd for a semen rain. :-)

  • my favorite song

  • To lumpishqa,

Because you commented about a website irrelevant to this song, I deleted it.

    60otaku3

  • Awesome song... This is the cleanest version of the song available on youtube... thanks!

  • You're welcome, vaughanwilliams1-san!!

    Otaku3 (^_^)/

  • I love the strings at 0:10, at 0:22, at 0:46 the drums at 1:38, the flute at 1:42 and Marilyn McCoo's honey-sweet voice especially at 0:53, at 1:53 and throughout. Up, up and away!! Beautifully Done. Thanks for posting. Fantastic.

  • You're welcome, frankho99-san!!

    Otaku3 (^_^)/

  • not heard this for a while

  • "The world's a nicer place in my beautiful balloon"....The world was a nicer place back when this song was a hit. Miss those days. Thanks for posting. Enjoyed this song so much.

  • You're very welcome, boxerdogs11-san!!

  • Sugoi to subarashii!

(You were a fan of American pop music in the 60's?)

  • Domo arigato, ShunyamNiketana-san!!

Yes, I am a fan of British pop music in the 60's too.

    Otaku3 (^_^)/

  • I remember the front cover of that album well during my youth in the 1960s. While the names of some of the songs in that album do not immediately come to mind, there are selections that could have made the top 100.

  • @ALANRLEAKE I agree...California My Way was great. Also...What a Shame that Too Poor To Die and Train Keep Movin were NOT on the album...but only released on 45s. I think they would have been bigger had they been ON the album.

  • Groovy baby!

  • Just beautiful! Memories of spring, dear friend. Thank you.

    John

  • Domo arigato gozaimasu, John-san!!
