Currently playin Counter Strike Source and Tf2. But TF2 isn't really comparable to TFC. They ended up being worlds apart, both gameplay and design wise. I like this list.

The best shooters, based on unanimous reviews all around the world, have NO multiplayer, or the multiplayer was practically non important. Half-Life 2, Doom, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. are the ones that come to mind.

And I REALLY need to know why you are praising Quake and Counter-Strike for being "easy pick up and play" when the reason why they are praised in the first place is because of their high skill ceiling and difficulty.

Secondly they are biased as their review system favours quantity over quality: they divide a game review into 100 categories where each of them is considered as important. Strictly using their rating system, a minimalistic but brilliant game like Chess would be one of the worst and most disappointing games of all time.

Games can be good without being in everyone's top 10 lists- my favourite FPS is not in here, and I was considering asking about it but I decided to just enjoy listening to the music again instead. Anyway, I suspect that if you or I made a top 10 list, there'd be many good games that we'd have to leave out.

it was in that time very special. Quake uses the Doom engine. So thats whay i think it is weird that doom is not in this list and quake is, And the title says the best 10 FPS games of all time. @TheRadioactivemutant Remember that Quake isn't class or loadout based (like any tactical shooter) - and there is the huge tactical potential: You have to collect your weapons, health, armor and powerups (with hard to master advanced movement and trick jumping) while memorizing all the respawn times, denying it your opponent. Quake is about 50% aim, 50% brain - like chess with weapons. Search for "rapha" and watch the video, also search for "game analysis cypher".

Maybe its just me, but I like Quake 1 and 2 a lot better because i think quake 3 is just rocket jumping and running and gunning. I will give it credit for not being class based- I hate class based shooters like tf2

@TheRadioactivemutant Well, the game is a lot faster paced, but the positioning that you're talking about is still very important. You have to defend weapons, items or waiting for the enemy to catch them and then strike. In TDM or CTF you have to rush to their base in squads, defend plattforms and rooms with crucial powerups, giving weapons to teammates with more HP and armor than yourself etc. You have all these tactical aspects too, just more intense since everything is pick up based.

@TheRadioactivemutant Quake 1 was all about rocket jumping since it had less weapons (especially no rail gun). People only played with rockets and lightening gun. Quake 2 is more like Quake 3 but was slower paced. Yeah, and Quake 3 had the big success in esports.

counter strike is not a bad game I agree, saying it needs 1st place though rather shows how much you know about skill it takes for fast phased games like tfc, q3, hldm.

I have played cs1.6 many times over the years to calm down and relax from hldm.

you dont think the basic tactics found in cs1.6 doesn't apply for such games?

try a quick scope headshot while going at bunnyhop movement insane speeds within 1 sec, while the tactics goes through your mind and time spawn pickups.
