  • I laughed so much on this video..and I'm Hungarian

  • Why is "é" pronounced like an "ee/i"?

  • @AndyMKordo "e" is a regular E. "é" is closer to an "ee" sound. A trick to get it right is to say "e" while smiling :)

  • good lord!

  • :) There are words in the hungarian language, what cannot be said even by hungarians, for exaple: megszentségteleníthetetlenségeskedéseitekért.

    Or: elkelkáposztástalaníthatatlanságoskodásaitokért.

:D Brutal eh? :D never mind, keep learning!

  • my god! ooh? and ooooh? this seems very difficult!

  • where in scotland are you from?

    im glaswegian!

  • i've always wanted to learn hungarian. Some of my parents in-laws are hungarinan, and i can practice with them

  • No hungarian girls for you guys :)

  • magyar? magier? magic? magicland?

  • the problem with describing how to pronounce "gy" is that depending on whether you're talking to an american or a brit, they'll have very different ideas of how you should say a word like "during". i think the best way to describe "gy" is somewhere between the end of the words "edge" and "etch" with a barely present "yuh" at the end, like in "yuck"

  • lol XD ki talàlta ki ezta fassàgot :D Helo Géza xD meg Bence XD mi

  • Sziasztok! Magyar vagyok! Hogy vagytok! :) Üdvözöllek Magyarországon! :D

  • Imádom, hogy a mi nyelvünk a második legnehezebb a világon. :D Számunkra nincs elég nehéz nyelv... :P

I just love that our language is the second most difficult in the world. :D To us, there's no hard language... :P

  • Im glad they are not teaching russian. Then i have to learn a whole new alphabet!

  • so...GY is not Like D in during...usually we dont use de DZS letter...and i think its very easy...

  • I hate you - utállak

    bad- rossz

    good - jó

it'S easy. comon learn to hungarian!! ez jó.

  • The problem is that letter 'gy' is not pronounced like 'j' in jeans but hmm... I don't know.

'J' in jeans is for letter 'dzs'

  • gy is like D in 'during'.

  • GY not sounds like beginning of jean or german...

I think its like beginning of Duke or Dew!!

And there are some similar case: NY sounds like New. TY like "tew"...

    :)

  • Felcserélte az Í és az É betűt mikor kiejtette őket, a hülyeéje.

  • i love you (english) = szeretlek (hungarian)

  • I love you is Szeretlek in Hungarian.

  • I love you is Szeretlek in Hungarian.

  • Hi!

I'm Adam from Hungary. I love you is Szeretlek in Hungarian. By the way writing is not that difficult coz' (almost) everything is written as is is pronounced. Of course I cannot feel how difficult it is, but there are much more difficult parts:) Anyway if anybody needs help in connenction with the language or decides to come to Hungary, just feel free to ask anything, I'll help you. To sum up, it's great to see, that so many of you are interested in my language:)

  • Szeretlek. :)

  • How do you say I love you in Hungarian?

  • Szeretlek. (Fast reply, lol. After 3 months. ^^)

  • Phonetically, it's, "sed et lek."

  • Szeretlek

    <3

  • Szeretlek

  • I dunno if sum1 answered this already but its { Szeretlek  }

    (My bf'z Hungarian)

  • Szeretlek. ^.^

  • "Szeretlek."

But I guess you've found that by now.

    :)

  • You'd say it very nicely, I suppose.

  • Szeretlek.

  • Szeretlek.

  • Szeretlek. :)

  • there are a lot of different ways to say i love you in magyar , the most common is "szeretlek".

though i always say "Imadlak" to my boyfriend, wich happens to have sort of a stronger meaning

im mexican but i love hungarian

  • dude thanks for putting this up. i want to learn hungarian sooo badly!! basicly all my family speaks it and i dont :(

  • I think GY is better to catch if you try to explain it like the sound what you say in "diD You". I mean when the D and the Y sound together... that's a GY more than the sound J in "jeans"...

  • Dont be a teacher, your explanation is terrible. Sorry :P

OK, GY is like D + U in the word: Duke

  • OR the begining of Dew or Duke sounds like GY :)

  • Klassz ez a kis nyelvbemutató, de egyáltalán nem magyarázta jól a gy helyes kiejtését.

Az sem tetszett, hogy állandóan furcsának és bonyolultnak nevezte az ékezetes betűket. Mintha valami kínos, fájdalmas dolgot próbálna megmagyarázni...

  • Im Hungarian..You can ask me questions if you dont understand anything.

  • Hi.. i'm lisa.. from malaysia.I'm planing to visit budapest next year can you teach me some simple language that might be usefull for me.

    thank you and appreciate it!

  • I hope you won't be a sex pest,

    In Budapest.

  • vicces..xD valaki megtanult ebből magyarul?:D Nem hiszem...:D

  • you guys didn't correctly explain the "gy" sound in hogy vagy

there are no good examples in English but i definitely wouldn't pick "jeans" to explain it

  • damn...i rather settle in learning German instead

  • It's "I'd rather settle for learning German."

Better still, I think you'd rather settle for learning English.

  • I can speak hungerian but i cant write in it XD

  • same here

  • I love how it says I've probably never seen or heard it before .. that was wrong. But this was right when it said there were a lot of long words .. they make me smile. For example the phrase "A mihamarabi talalkozasig" really amuses me as well as "Mennyibe kerul egy szoba?" I realize I have no accents .. but yeah. I'm going to fail miserably while I'm in Hungary anyways. :P

  • What does A mihamarabi talalkozasig mean?

  • I does: see you soon

    a mihamarabbi találkozásig

  • something along the lines off

    "soon we meet"

  • see you soon!.......

  • Mihamarabbi találkozásig=See you or until we meet! But..we don't use it!

  • See you (until the)next time means "A mihamarabbi találkozásig". But we rarely use it. Rather never. This is too formal.

  • Until we meet again. It means bye.

We do not use it so Don't learn it :D

    But it is Mihamarabbi találkozásig.

  • My dear friend, who created this video course: as PEC00 has also noticed there's a big mistake in this lecture: "gy" mustn't be pronounced like "j" in "jeans" or "G" in "German" (this sound is marked with "dzs" in Hungarian) but like the consonant you pronounce in French "adieu"... sorry, I cannot find any English examples to the pronounciation of this letter at midnight... :) I guess there must be some...

  • Thank you nagypal333. Actually, a university lecturer wrote it. We get a lot of (usually angry!) feedback from Hungarians about the "gy" sound. This is just a reference as the sound doesn't exist in English (adieu is good but can be pronounced in 2 different ways).

Anyway! You can hear the speaker pronounce it correctly, as he is a native speaker. Thats the best thing to do :)

  • yes a native speaker, i can hear it.he has a quite irish accent in english though..?

  • Candy.

  • I'm a native English speaker, but am trying to learn some phrases as I'm off to Hungary shortly. I'm certainly not the person to ask for a definitive answer, but from what I can tell, something like adulation when spoken quickly might be reasonably close.

  • OK my comment flew in the space:-) I write it again.

welcome TO Hungary = Üdvözöllek MagyarországON

be careful because it is an exception that TO.. = .. ON because in other cases TO is translated as ..HOZ/..HÖZ (this case the word üdvözöllek has to be followed as ..ON in geographical cases)

  • really enjoyed studying Hungarian.

however pls be careful that TO Hungary doesnt mean MagyarországON. EXCEPTION! it means to Hungary, however welcome/üdvözöllek has to be followed with '..on' but it doesnt mean that gramatically you have to say '..on' whenever you would say 'to..'

  • Well if someone want to learn hungarian, you should ask a hungarian to teach you, because, it's a very hard language to learn for someone abroad. Hungarian is not part of the Latin language, like the other Europian languages, but I would teach someone if someone ask for it nicely :) I'm from Hungary, and I can teach much. :) Ne féljetek levelet írni nekem (means: Don't be afraid to send me a letter) :)

  • The Hungarian language goes far back. It developed in a very particular manner and its structure reaches back to times, when most of the now spoken European languages did not even exist.

  • Halló

  • (j)eans!=ho(gy)

they are 2 different sounds. j in jeans "dzs", and gy in hogy... well i don't know wether that exists in english or not.

  • cool! I'vr been wanting to learn some hungarian launguage at some point!

(I'm 1/2 hungarian... the hungarian side of my family has been in the US for so long, that they stoped bothering to learn the language! the only one left who actually learned it since he visited there, died about 5 years ago... T.T)

  • Good idea, nice language, ask anything.

  • the language is nagyon szép! :D

    greetings from Horvátország!

  • Greets from Poland, Hungarian ppl :) I must learn this language.

  • I start to learn hungarian. Thanks for this video.

  • hát nem édi?

  • hungarian language is not easy...

  • Acoustic is easy for Polish, but all hungarian language is like gibber in Polish :) But I think Hungarian is fantastic, i wish to learn it.Thanks for the vid. 5

  • What do you mean by "acoustic"?

  • sztem ő úgy értette, hogy más nyelvekkel ellentétben, a magyarnak középkori formáját is meg lehet érteni. Ami sztem elég jó dolog, mert pl egy német nem értene egy szót sem 300 éve...

igaz hogy nem a túlművelt kategória az ürge

  • Mi az, hogy "it has hardly changed at all through the past centuries?"

    És a nyelvújítás? :PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

  • "it has hardly changed at all through the past centuries?"

Ez szószerint azt jelenti, hogy nagy változásokon ment keresztül az előző századokban.

  • jaja

  • German, jeans?

    "Hodzs vadzs?" Érdekes is lenne...:D
