  • I have the new heatsink, fuck yea

  • This is the first video that I've seen that finally shows the kind of heatsink that I have in mine. However, unfortunately I have the RROD error code 0102 as we speak. I'm about to attempt a reflow with the heat gun and Im a little nervous to say the least. Its pretty much my last hope and effort I know of to fix my 360. Not sure if it matters that i have the new heatsink but we will see what happens.

  • @jeremybr2020 HEY YO CUZ WHERE YOU GET THE HEAT GUN AT FOO

  • Yes i got the new heatsink, does this reduce the percentage of having rrod. plz respond!!

  • @gravyspartan yeah thry absorb more heat and i wont get technical but yes they do

  • uhh what is with the X-flies music?

  • @comanche119 Mysterious how microsoft fucked up the design so badly...

  • @dnbmania i never had a problem with my xbox360.... well because i have the jasper model, which has the new heatsinks..... and i really want the Xbox360 slim but im saving up for that.. which is only like 400/300 dolours Canadian. too :) and there not making the fatboxes anymore (the white ones) now there only going to make the xbox360 Slim.

  • @comanche119 A company hosted by one of the highest earning persons in the world took 4 years to get a console right. I hear the slim still scratches disks - that means they didnt invest an extra 50p/cents to fix the issue.

Ever heard the fact that if bill gates drops 3 grand on the floor, by the time he picks it up again he has earned more?

I don't remember any of these issues with the first xbox.

  • @dnbmania maybe if your a moron you could believe that. if you MOVE the xbox it will scratch it. like ALL of the videos on here. never believe stupid stuff like that on the Internet. only see for your self. like the one video i saw that showed him moving it and it scratched.. and its not made to be moved while on the last time i heard.. oh wait, same with ALL consoles! i did that with my ps3 (overheated.. WHAT IRONY!) by accident. (before i sold it and all the Sony stuff with it)

  • @comanche119

PS3, I hate to admit, they have blu-ray disks. These disks have a solid protective coat which means they are very hard to scratch. When you tip a PS3 the disk grinds, the game stops but there are NO scratches.

Also I have modded a few Xboxs with foam pads inside the disk drive and it wont scratch the disk now. I have my Xbox in front of me and ill do it in a sec. Many of my friends disk's scratched without moving the console. It did happen to me before i did something about it.

  • @dnbmania i compared my brothers blu-ray player to my xbox360 with HDMI cables, i think there is no difference at all.. blu-ray or not. Xbox or playstation. there BOTH better then a DVD player any day. but it isn't hard to scratch a blu-ray disc though.. you just have to do it just wrong, and it will scratch :P

but hey, i think its smart of you of putting foam pads inside the disk drive. and also, you need to know how to use the xbox right so it will do what its made for.

  • @dnbmania oh and thanks for being civilized over this whole conversation.

  • @dnbmania not to Menchion the jasper models has the HDMI output as well :)

  • I have the new Jasper Model and mine gets HOT after playing 30 minutes. BUT the upside is that it doesn't get any hotter once it gets to that "VERY WARM" point. That's the good thing about the jasper.

  • Whats the song i forgot the name hehehe

  • @Speedster159 x-files

  • I have this shitty heatsink and it still gave me the RROD, I'm about 1 more repair away from goin Sony.

  • THE MUSIC MAKES IT KINDA FREAKY

  • lmao !! :DDD

  • LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

  • LOL WTF???

  • yes we now it's a heat sink

  • LMAOO make it look like such a mystery to do this

  • none of these methods work. Not the x-clamp fix, not the penny fix, not the heat gun. They all failed after two mins. The only true ones that work is the getto mod: leaving your console open and moving the dvd drive and putting a giant fan to cool both heatsinks, there is also the lian li case mod: which is a whole new huge case, or just install watercooling(which is the most expensive yet best one).

  • i got the old one but the worst ive had so far is the scaler chip working lose

  • I got it yayyyyyyyayyyyayayayayayayayay

  • ive allready fixed my xbox 360 about 4 times from the rrod and the fist two times it worked fine for about 1 month and a half the las two was about two days... can n e body help?

  • heatgun method. check youtube tuts on that

  • thermal compound

  • i used artic silver 5 but still not workin..also i jus bought a new xbox and it has error E69....dat sux

  • damn that sucks

  • Did you try resetting it after replacing the thermal paste?

My Xbox has been dead for months and I tried cleaning and replacing the thermal paste (Although I didn't use Arctic silver) Nor have I used the penny trick (Cause it seems pointless to me). My 360 didn't work when I was done, but I didn't reset it either. I'm about to try resetting it but I also don't want to waste my time or mess up my system more if it doesn't work......

    Just tryin to get ideas......

  • @nightmathzombieethan i am at the same point as you and found out that microsoft released a repair kit of 8 screws and 16 nylon washers (waiting for them now) to properly remount the heatsinks without using the x-clamps or their screws. This should apply the proper amount of force to keep the system from overheating because right now i can just push down really hard on the heatsinks with both hands when i fire it up to keep it cool but cant play too well like that. Good luck with your system.

  • Thanks, Yeah I ended up biting the bullet and just buying a new one, which was thankfully a "Jasper" system. I'm pretty sure they finally fixed the problem, as this one runs very cool (I still bought an intercooler though, just in case!) I can run it for hours and the back doesn't even get warm, I remember the last one was like a little oven! I hope things work out for ya!

  • Could just pop the top off of it'll run just fine.

240mm DC fans also sit right on top of a xbox.

  • me to it is the HDMI unit. gust too tell the dummys

    lol

  • i have it

  • it doesnt even help i got red ring e74 and overheating like every five minutes and open tray errors so this heatsink is nothing but better if anything i think it is worse but thats not possible or is it? but i dont think this is even a help that you could notice

  • TREY 4 LIFE YA DIGG!

  • I do have it but I still got the ring of death

    What HAPPENED?

  • ignore the heatsinks just get the new TS INTERCOLLER from Niko, it keeps it cool and longer life span for the xbox360.

  • agreed.

  • i went and picked that up its the most powerfull intercooler there is

  • Erm, ok this video is fundamentally wrong, what it shows as the 'original heatsink' is actually the CPU heatsink, and that has never changed, the 'new' heatsink is only partly labelled as the whole thing is new, the main section being now made of a composite alloy instead of aluminium, these Microsoft issue heatsinks don't actually do a lot of good however, best thing is a mixture of mods to increase airflow along with the x-clamp replacement mod.

  • Actually, that CPU heatsink is the old one. The newer boards have a solid block heat sink very much like that of the GPU's just it's taller. Look up on ebay for the newer CPU heatsinks and you'll find one.

  • It may be the old CPU heatsink, but what the video is showing is the the illustrated 'new heatsink' is the replacement for the illustrated 'old heatsink' but since one is a GPU heatsink and the other a CPU this is fundamentally incorrect, like I said in my first comment.

    All the best.

    Dale.

  • that is very true. this video is correct in a way, but yet misleading. You want to point out the initial original and new installation heatsinks for the same chip. So the original heatsink is the one that is the base connector to the newone, the far right one.

    Best Regards

    Adrian

  • the new heatsink is for the new 65NN CPU witch make less heat. the old heatsink is for the 95NN CPU witch made a hell of a lot of heat. if you wore to put the new heatsink on the old 95NN CPU it will over heat and bairn up.

  • "Bairn UP"

    Learn to spell Dick munch

  • Agreed. Also, the new heatsink is also found on zephyr based consoles, showing that MS even uses them in the 95nm boards. *Please note it's a lower case nm and not NN (Nano-Neater?)

  • Hi Guys,

Im looking to make a 5mm thick copper plate to go under my orginal Aluminum heat sink to help spread the heat. Have any of you tried this yet?

  • I wouldn't do that. The new heatsinks work really well and you will void your warranty if you add a heatsink yourself.

  • If the heat sinks work so well why are they getting so hot. My warranty had run out so i had nothing to loose. I have added the extra copper plate all is running fine since. I have clocked up around 70 hours so far.

  • They aren't. Lets say that the 360 is 70C on load. That's really not that hot at all. The Xbox can handle temperatures at 100C easily. They are made to handle high heats like that.

  • So can you expalin wht the soilder joints are breaking

  • They fixed that now. Any 360 sent in for repair or one made after August 2007 does not have that problem.

  • 100C is the failing point of jest about all microprocessor

  • This is the most dumbest vid i ever seen, and for the people that think thats a water cool heatsink IS NOT!!!!!!! is just a heat sink that MS added in it doesnt really do much, they are usualy found on xbox that are refurbished or fixed by MS, maybe even on the elites but is not a big deal.

  • It's not water cooled, it's a pipe extension, just to help clarify. What that does is help to spread the heat from the base heat sink to an extension (Such as the extra fins in front of the CPU). This does contain liquid inside, but it's not technically liquid cooling since it doesnt have a pump or radiator seperate from the heat source.

  • I know what it is, and i know it has no liquid inside.

If you read carefully, im clearly stating in my last comment that its not water cool.

  • mine has the new heat sink on an elite and i got the e74 code so now i'm doing the xclamp fix /watch?v=fM4TEIZqOso

  • my origional falcon xbox has only just got rrod (hacked, only mod) thats what 3 years?

its not a heat issue mine was on the top of my chest of draws in open air on its own

its a problem with booting from the bios, equivilant to blue screen, it cant find it so skips it, ive turned mine off,on,off,on like 25 times and its worked again!...

and ps3's have blue ray problems, wee's ARE gay, best console atm is the sega megadrive 2..

  • lmao

  • Laughable, really. This is MS's pathetic attempt to cool this fucking beast they created and are still clueless. This new heatsink is fucking worthless. It will NOT keep your 360 from getting the red ones. Fact is, any heatsink you put in there is inadequate. You really do need to have water cooling as a solution and as the only solution. You can clamp that bitch all you want, eventually it will fail again. Passive cooling in a 369 DOES NOT FUCKING WORK, you thick MS bastards. Sort it out!

  • i have that shit on my elite and fuckin rrod came out

  • The so called new heatsink, or water cooling?

  • even if ur xbox has the new heatsink does putting thermal shit on the gpu and modifying the x clams still fix it from the red lights?

  • how did you get that camera angle?

  • now was that really necessary?

  • oops sorry my code is 0020

  • err if its that you need to take the thermal heat pads out and put 1p pennies wrping in electrical tape and replace them and put it back togther and it should work

  • That sounds so far from the truth... How about some actual thermal paste?

  • its not true i got the rrod and i cheked and i got the two heat sink, i got 3 lights , my code is 0203

  • Wow! Undisputable evidence of its existence!! A new heatsink! We are not alone!!!!!

  • rofl

  • And for the record, my 360 does have the new heatsink...but it still died. Turns out the failure was caused by the NAND chip and I got it to work by pushing on this chip. After heat gunning it to improve the connections, I seem to be back in business. But for how long...I have no idea.

  • My xbox just got the rrod, warranty was out, so I took it apart and it had the extra heat sink. I was able to fix it and it works now but don't bet your xbox's life on the xtra heat sink, didn't help me out too much.

  • shit my xbox 360 pro has that extra heat sink, the reason why I know is because I got the red ring of death and had to put that artic siler shit on the gpu and cpu that extra heat sink don't make a bit of difference!!

  • just do the xclamp fix fo it and ull be alright if ur out of warranty.

  • All xbox 360 that are shipped after june 2006 have this heatsink. Even if you send your x360 in for repair

  • xboxs will always get rrod untill they replace the plastic outer covering on the heatsinkS

  • Hey ima buy a 360 elite for christmas. Does it have the new heatsink, 65nanometer and the new dvd drive? please respond

  • my elite has the extra heatsink but i still got the RROD.

  • same with me, my xbox red ringed last week, still with the new heatsink

  • my 360 halo edition says 175v

  • Falcon chpset

  • yes

  • Do I have the new heat sink? Find out the easy way look at the back of the packaging on the box a white sticker should say 175v thats the new heatsink if it says 203v its the old toaster xbox.

  • i got a 360 go pro a week ago for 300$ and gta 4 free at best buy does it have the new heatsink?

  • yes it does.

  • will the cooling fan work as good as the heat sink?

  • It helps but is not as good. I put a cooling fan on mine but right now its back at microsoft...:(

  • i dont feel like looking at the other comments but the reason it has so many FUCKING PROBLEMS with it is because they wanted to get it out as fast as they can So every thing is all compacted together and it all gets hot and melts the soder and it will slowly fall apart or melt an important part JUST AN FYI If yours has been fixed dont leave it on for over 4 hours ;)

  • scary shit :D

  • lol this is like watching alien vids on youtube same music

  • Music <3 :DDD

  • the first 360s had one heat sink and two little fans that were supposed to take away the heat from the system. Didnt work and that caused the red lights. The new heat sinks helps take away alot more heat and will hopefully be the answer to the fucking RROD

  • no sorry about your luck, i have both new heat sinks and i got rrod 2 times in 3 months. just face it the 360 is always goin to be a piece of shit, the only way the can fix it is to reshape it and get a bigger cooling system in it and better digsined like the ps3's cooling system that thing doesnt get hot at all

  • yah ps3 rocks!!!!!!!!!

  • I know! 45 nm processor, lapped and all (never actually looked at the 360 processor) and a watercooling setup! That'll keep it ice cold in there.

  • i have my xbox 360 from the day it came out and ive never had a problem with it

  • omg wow.

    congratz man :)

    (not being sarcastic)

  • then ur lucky

  • I think the heatsinks take the heat away from the GPU and the CPU chips and the heat is blown out the fans. Not totally sure

  • x files music

  • wats the heatsink do? does it suck in heat or wwat?

  • if i look inside my xbox, everything looks the same way

  • lol x files. "the Truth is in there!"

  • Inside your xbox is about as secret as Area 51..Theres pictures of it everywhere, even on google maps, but the only way you get in is by doing something bad (I.e voiding your warranty).

  • fail

  • lol man lol.

  • Yeah that is the proper way to check without voiding warrenty and if you wana learn how to cool your 360 without liquid cooling or intercooler, my video is something you should check out.

  • Mine died last night on March 12th..Can't tell if it has a new heatsink but it was manufactured on August 12th and it has the 0102 when you push the controller and CD thing..

  • I couldnt of described it better myself

  • the exstra heatsink is not good i have one and it gets hot on the GPU

  • cheers man i got it

  • i got mine this at the start of DEC its the shitty 360 arcade

    am i safe?

  • you have the good 1

  • so everyone who has a premium or core will have to open their 360 and put new heatsink in, Elites are fine as they are properly made

  • Not so sure about that, I had to send mine in for repairs.

    Check my vids.

  • yup just found out about the elite problem as well, omfg why can't microsoft sort out their processors

  • They do it for money, they figure sooner or later you will have to send it in. I think a company like that would be able to get their shit straight if they wanted to.

  • hey i got a elite and it got the rrod so thats bs

  • I have it,but i sent it for repair for dvd drive problems got the same one back but they put the new heat sink in it,coz it never used to have it,my bro doesnt have it and his got rrod last weekend, error 0020

  • awsome vid man cool x-Files theme on it loved it man

  • i dunno im not opening my xbox 360 to find out incase i break something 0h clumsy me lol =0

  • whats with the x-files theme lol

  • X box, X files. get it? yea yea neither do I. ♫duh dum chishhhhhh♫.

  • lmao wow da music is crazy

  • loved the music, used to work for xbox support, thank god its over

  • I wonder if they have addressed all of the problem that the xbox has. I sold mine last year and I don't regret it. I may try again next year . In my opinion it's still garbage.

  • just wondering i got my xbox360 with the hdmi added to it(not the arcade)..is there a chance that is has the new heatsink?

  • the one in this video only has a 3rd heatsink for the GPU, but it still has the old cpu.

if the cpu heatsing does not have a heatpipe, then you have a cooler cpu.

seems like all new xbox360 out there right now have the new cpu and 3rd heatsink

  • now wait for the new jasper unit with the 3 heatsinks and smaller gpu unit. its coming out in august. think about it: 3 heatsinks and a small cpu and gpu!

  • No need to wait.

  • its the best solution for the red rings of death so far. the problem may be the thin design. the fans are supposed to operate at minimum cooling requirements to minimize noise from the freaking loud tiny fans. bad idea. the high heat wears out the hardware and could be a major reason for the RROD.

  • paolo, yes it could be the fact that they put the dvd drive right on top of the damn gpu heatsink so it suffocates it.

I can see the guy that design this being pressured in to making the system small.

by the way what makes noise is the dvd drive

    when it has some games.

  • they wanted so much to shoot for the "double concavity" sexiness and thinness they totally destroyed the functionality of the case. the thin design called for a 60 mm fan. one, while being loud, was not enough, so a second one was put in, making the system even LOUDER. plus with the thin design they couldn't fit the power supply within the console, so they had added the massive power brick, which is also loud and overheats.

  • paolomondo, yeah the power supply that I am using is a bit lauder then my other one, these things have at least 2 fans.

They have the good games, they just need to keep that up and to continue in making the system better.

  • the power supplies actually only have one fan, and its very tiny.

  • then they decided to have the fastest loading times possible by fitting in an impossibly loud 16x dvd drive (which are getting quieter with the benq and improved hitachis). combine the small and loud fans with the very tiny power supply fan plus a super-fast spinning dvd drive equals the most impossibly loud and obnoxious console ever created. the system is so damn loud you need a hometheater or loud volume level to hear the very subtle sounds.

  • whats hilarious is that the ps3 fits in a more complex processor, a power supply, and the other hardware all in one super sexy glossy case and ends up being one of the quietest fan-cooled systems ever made. even quieter than the gamecube lol...the ps3 design kicks ass. they really nailed it with the fan placement. theres a big fan located within a heatsink on the back directly on the cpu! looks freaking awesome.

  • how about you stop advertising for the Ps3? Thats not exactly what we're looking for.

  • mikedole1 and i were discussing the cooling and noise problems with 360 and how it could be solved. i just used the ps3 as a perfect example of how well a design could keep a console quiet and cool.

  • paol, the reason I say no need to wait is because at least it is cooler now with 3rd heatsink and cpu, plus with the receipt, you get 3 year warranty, so if you get the red lights 2 years from now , at that time they will have jasper so you could get it replaced with one of those.

  • actually im getting a 3rd 360. my first 360 had disc-scratching problems so i got a new 360 with quieter fans (thank god) and my newer one had the same old loud hitachi drive and now has the same problems so im sending it in and i hope they send my a new one with quiet fans and a benq drive :-D

  • paol, so far I had luck because I still have 1 of the 1st 360 from 2005 and elite from 2007 and no problems yet.

and yes the ps3 is a bit quiet, it turns on the fans when it heats up and you can barely hear the drive, but they need more games and shock controller for the U.S. SOON.

  • hehe the ps3 is getting games. it already has resistance fall of man, ratchet and clank, heavenly sword, drake's uncharted and will be getting haze, killzone 2, mgs4, gt5, god of war III, and many more.

  • I dont look in to games that are coming out 1 or 2 years from now, so the only exclusive on my radar are haze and mgs4 for now, I have the feeling kz2 might get pushed to fall 08.

I have uncharted and I still have not played it yet, I been playing mass effect when I have time.

  • theres really nothing special out for the 360 later in 2008. most of those games i listed are coming out in half a year or so. plus the 360 is to freaking loud for my tastes. and once we get a home theater we would need a blu-ray player since hd-dvd is pretty much obsolete.

  • paol, at this moment 360 has over 340 games including a few arcade games available RIGHT NOW.

the ps3 only has 123 games inluding online games, so no need to argue about games.

  • plus i can't trust the 360 anymore. its too defective. i am constantly fearing the RROD and disc drive problems.

  • paolo, ok you sound like a fanboy now, repeating the same thing, I think I made my point clear, YOU HAVE 3 YEAR WARRANTY FOR RROD, no need to panic.

ps3 was never worth $600 and had no must have exlcusives all year 07, in fact it is not even worth it right now as a gaming mechine, till the shock3 and mgs4 comes out. END OF STORY

  • yeah but sometimes returning a console takes a month! ps3 is 400$. thats including a blu-ray player (which usually costs 500) plus built-in wifi (on 360 you have to pay 100 for this) plus completely free online play. so the ps3 is a MUCH better deal. plus the new dualshock 3 controllers have MUCH better rumble than 360. we will need a blu-ray player later and i would like to play mgs4, killzone 2, haze, final fantasy, uncharted, resistance, ratchet and clank, etc.

  • I boght it and I am happy

  • you cant stop RROD its microsoft's fault they rushed before wii and ps3 came out and tried to make the 360 without flaws but.... NO!!!

  • the problem may be the thin design. the fans are supposed to operate at minimum cooling requirements to minimize noise from the freaking loud tiny fans. bad idea. the high heat wears out the hardware and could be a major reason for the RROD.

  • they said they fixed the ring of death.....

  • is this heatsink in the 360 that are out right know or do you have to by it

  • well they said they have the 360's out already

  • I just got one so I dont have to worry about it

  • thanks i do have the new heatsink wont my xbox overheat anymore?

  • theres a reduced chance of it overheating..but it may still overheat

  • that really helped me thanks a lot man I used this video to find I have the new heatsink.

  • what are the yellow/orange tube things on the new heatsink? anyone who knows please comment

  • Those tube things are heat pipes. They have a little bit of liquid in it to help cool better.

  • No this New HeatSink does not resolve the 3 Red rings of Death...I send in my xbox 360 Yesterday and it arrived at Texas Today...

  • so dose this solve the ring of death problem?

bacause im buying an xbox 360 premium and wanted to know how to take the best care of the system so i doesn't break doen anytime soon

  • No ! I sent mine in for repair and got a new heat sink. It worked for 10 minutes and now I am waiting to get it back again. I found a lot of other people online who had to ship it in 5 times or more. In MANY recent cases it breaks down within 2 weeks after you get it back from repair. I highly recommend not to buy a 360. Buy a new computer or a PS3 or maybe a Wii but stay away from the 360. Even the Halo 3 edition that has 65nm chips and the heat sink has the ring of death !!

  • What! I'm buying the XBOX Halo version next week. Are you sure the Halo version gets the red rings? How do you know the Halo version gets the red rings?

  • well...it shouldnt because of the new falcon chips they put in and also the new heatsink is also installed in it

  • NM. I got the PS3 instead.

  • shame on you!!!

  • Why would I buy a console if I have to search for the correct one. As the consumer, I shouldn't have to search for the "Falcon chipset." It should just work when I buy it. PS3 failure rate at launch is less then 2%. I'm okay with that. Its basic Economics. Good product sells. Bad product doesn't sell.

  • If your a gamer that plays for more than 2 hours a day dont buy a 360 but if you only play ever so often, then the 360 should not over heat on you. I'm on my 3rd 360 and I have all the cooling devices...get a wii or ps3...but i will tell you i have a will and a ps3 and the 360 is by far the best, but i wont get one if you intend to play for many hours...hope this helps

  • thats probably why ur 360 doesnt work.. you bought those cooling devices that take additional power from the 360 causing it to die.

  • I always ran my fans straight through an ac adapter and never used any of the 360s power. I would do this so that i could leave my fans on after i finished playing so that my system could get all the hot air out. Trust me i know what im talking about..I have been working on CPUs and Modding games for a long time.
