Patty's day ep that Ted bumps into and apologizes is the mother and as Ted said that he didn't see the mother at the party its probably cause in that episode he couldn't remember the night and Marshell had to make him remember by using the answering machine on his phone... so although he did run into her he probably doesn't remember that part of the night because he was drunk ... Just a theorey

About the mother

In the episode "Ten Sessions", Stella reveals that she attended and left a party on St. Patrick's Day, which may have been the same one Ted attended. Ted told his children that the future mother of his children was at the party. In one of the party scenes, Ted and a young woman (Nicole Millbrook) briefly bump into each other. Ted apologizes, to which the woman replies "that's OK". It has also been theorized that the young woman might be Ted's future wife.

It's not Stella. Why? Two reasons.

1. Stella leaves Ted at the alter to go back to her husband.

2. Ted's children have brown hair while Stella's blonde.

It could be the brown-haired girl in the St. Patty's Day ep, but Ted says he didn't see the mother at the party. BUT, there are a whole lot of girls there, and (as the night goes on) you get to see every girl in the room. You could around and see if you see someone you recognize later in the series.
