Classic example of an approach to landing stall. I would imagine that distance combined with high wind makes it difficult to judge Vref (landing speeds), especially with large models--which have less surplus power. My hats off to RC pilots, who are experts at nailing approach speeds by eye alone--at a distance.
If I ever start flying big and expensive RC models like twin featured here, It will never leave the ground without onboard FPV to monitor landing airspeed.
@fractalbeliever yes it can be very difficult to judge airspeed in that high of wind... I am kinda glad I am not at that level yet to worry about such expensive rc I will stick to my alpha 40 for now ... lol thanks for watching
@eimb1999 Sure is. Sound quality is up to the producer. I shouldn't have to correct what should have been done in the first place. In any case, he posted an explanation already.
@beechcraft12 this was my moms old olympus camera it was like a $400 camera when it came out but it was not very good video qu. LOL its where I started thats why I cant find the nerve to delete these videos LOL
yeah, but come on guys....a 25 knot crosswind?? thats alot for my old B727, let alone a model airplane...I fly large RC planes too, and I use my head just like if I were to sit in the damn thing......remember flying can't be pushed too far, and mother nature always wins
@XBoeingCapt I would fly my cheap planes in wind like that but nothing like this LOL but when people come to a show they want to fly ... have a good one thanks for watching
That's sad for me to see this Airplane Crash because i have never seen nobody fly an RC Aero Commader. It handled the cross wind well, but the landing approach is something different at the End. Crashing makes one Great
I tell people all the time... "Don't fly in heavy winds...!" Same reason the big 8 engine RC B-52 turbine plane crashed. You knuckle heads never learn.
@HappySCVResident yeah but at the big shows like this one the guys come a long way to fly and if it is windy they have a hard time saying no because that is why they were there LOL also he had his flaps down.. not a good idea in that much wind
@hacker8675309 Oh I completely understand the desire to fly at an event you drove a long way to be at. I've been flying for 25 years and I've driven many miles to go to annual events. It's very difficult to keep the plane you spent several months building and testing for the show, but it not worth (in my opinion) picking up the pieces of my blood sweat & tears to please the crowd. I'll miss a show because of the wind...but I'm not going to lose my plane to wow the crowd.
Nice twin ................. what a shame. I wonder what caused it ?? I'm no expert, but it looks like a possible tip stall .... 1 engine failed or gusty winds .. airspeed. Looked so good in the air. Never a pleasant sight.
@FOscum he came in with full flaps in that crosswind I am pretty sure thats what did him in it seemed to catch the wind and he did not correct it in time ... it was a horrible crash
Oh that's cool. Did you see any of the other vids of that day? I got the A 10 flight, the F 16 flight, the jet crash, and the P 51 shredding its prop. Also what did you think of the videos? Did you like them? Do you fly out of Owatonna or are you from somewhere else? We fly mainly at Olive Branch and another place in Hayfield. We don't have ama or a membership to any clubs, we just go out and fly. How about you?
I came up from Iowa to fly in the event. I saw photos of my planes but you didn't get any videos of them flying (I saw all of your videos). Not bad, but it looks like you could use a better camera.
that is for sure ... i need a better camera .. lol but it all started with us doing stupid stuff and wanting to get a recoard of it and it has blowen up from there... now im making vids all the time ... im kinda a low budget movie maker lol... one day ill have good videos ... but right now im having fun ... too bad i dint get any video of your plane up i might have some i havent posted yet what plane was yours ... discribe well saw alot of planes dont there lol
there is a saying us rc pilots use...it's not if.. but when you crash .. :) and keep it tree mistakes high! lol

There very little more annoying than wind noise in a microphone. They have a new thing out for that. It is called foam rubber.

I was there, and even helped to pick up the pieces. Looked like too much flap for the amount of wind. Caused it to tip stall while coming in.

are you in the clean up part of the video ??? if so witch person are you ... i agree to much flap ... it was too bad it was a pretty plane

I am tough to see. At 2:22 I am right behind another guy in your video. I had a shirt on that said "if it's not a warbird, it's just another target."
