On the third date with my girlfriend I said this to her, and held her close under the moonlight. I showed her the movie 3 months afterwards, and I had never seen her smile so much before... She said it was the cutest thing I had ever said to her.
Aww James is so cute in this film.I'm watching this later on DVD great film. One of the best Xmas films ever aswell.Merry Christmas and a happy 2012 everyone.

@hnlover1226 yes the 1940s and 1950s were good years IF you were white male middle class or above otherwise you were really screwed. but go ahead and look at them through rose colored glasses and classic denial of the TRUTH.
@billhause 1940s and 1950s and... you can complain at every decade because we're all just people and every year brings new shit with it. But it's not about coplaining but noticing and appreciating the good things. Otherwise you'll grow old and die old and bitter and the world will still be divided between good and bad.
And women weren't such demanding little cunts who expected their man to do everything and give them every little thing, emotional problems and all.. yea I'd like to go back to the 40's.. when woman knew their place.
btw.. its woman like you.. we refer to as cunts.. were still gentleman just not with little whores like yourself. Bet you break up with men because they are not "man enough" for you ..
Watched it yesterday for the 100th time. Such a great film and a real tear jerker. Iconic scenes and dialogue. James Stewart is awesome in this movie. They don't make e'm like they used to.
Awesome movie...and we love it any time of year. Come visit us to see how you could enjoy this moving in a cabin decorated in this wonderful nostalgia. It is our theme and can be found at tinyurl dot com's webpage ending in "wonderfulcabin."
"It's a Wonderful Life" is one of those movies that charmed me as a teenager, and it set the standard of what I expected out of life. It had wholesome values, innocent romance, and projected family and community in a very idealistic way. Real life never really delivered that dream to me, but every day I try to keep it alive. Real life is more like Pottersville than Bedford Falls. Perhaps that is why It's a Wonderful Life is probably my favorite film.
@markeyboynum1 And months later, that comment still stands; but to add to it, I have to acknowledge that in spite of all of the challenges in life and reasons for cynicism, there are still occasional glimmers of hope which give cause for optimism. It's like the old story of the Biblical city of Sodom. The city was almost all bad, but the city wasn't destroyed because there was still at least one good soul left in it. Such is the world. Though oft dark, yet traces of light make us soldier on.
I wouldn't say I'm obsessed with it, but I just think it shows the charm of films of the era. I love the way they talk, you just don't get that any more. The bit at the end makes me laugh too. What kind of romantic gesture would you get in films these days? Getting a call back after sleeping with someone? Haha.
@andrewtalks it's simple really, they're falling in love, and if you've seen the whole movie, when she picks up that rock and hits the glass, she cancles his dream and shows him that he can have adventures without leaving town.
I'd kill to look like Donna Reed... why were all the truly beautiful actresses decades before my generation? This is one of my favorite scenes from any movie. Especially that last line.
'WHY DON'T YA KISS HER INSTEAD OF TALKING HER TO DEATH?'
The telephone scene at Mary's house is pretty good too :-) And for the guys reading this, romanticism isn't dead. If a guy like that showed me a scene like this, I'd marry him on the spot =D
@LivinFortheCity I agree! Donna Reed is the most under rated actress in the Golden Days of Hollywood. She is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life. Me and her have something in common though, we both have the same birthdays. I would also love to live back in the days when romance and politeness existed.
I should seriously take notes from this film. This, Casablanca, La Belle et La Bete, and Shakespeare are REAL ways of courting a woman not like those ridiculous ones you'd find in Coppola's bizarre take on Dracula ( I can't really buy a film where the woman just forgets that her "sweet prince" is a monster that feeds babies to his brides, messed up her fiancee, and raped/murdered/transformed her best friend as a very appealing love story), or a Nicolas Sparks book. We need more stuff like this.
