I just finished reading the book, Lone Survivor and it raised a couple of questions for me. Nothing takes away from the heroism and valor displayed by the SEALS during that mission so understand that my questions aren't designed to suggest otherwise. I'm an AF vet myself. 1) Why didn't command tell the team to abort the mission if it became compromised (e.g. the goat herders)? 2) Why didn't cooler heads prevail in the ill-fated rescue mission where 16 others died?
These guys are HEROS. Thanks for what you guys did and r.i.p. Marcus is a living legend and less than half of our so called citizens could even tell you who he is. The earlier comment about these people having their heads up American idols ass is dead on. Wake up people, great guys like this die almost everyday so dumbasses can watch garbage like that. Think back to that date in '05 and see if you remember where you were while these guys went through 10 life times of hell.

I got a question and id really appreciate someone to help me with it. I plan on being a navy seal i now its training is hard but when your dedicated to something then nothing can stop you. I just wanna know can i start at 17 because i do not wanna wait till im 18 and what kind of training or exercises should i do till i am put into all the training to being a navy seals if you can just write me a messege telling me thank you for your help
@DEATH2ISREAL you can enlist at 17, after you graduate high school but your parents need to be on board and will need to sign permission for you to enlist. your Navy recruiter should have you meet a SO motivator while you are in DEP , he'll put you on a training regiment that will guide you
First of all speak to a recruiter. Two you do need your parents consent and you will need to work on some of your scores as well. Take the practice asvab. Work on your test scores so you ARE eligible for seal. Your recruiter can help you get on track for being in shape. They can give you a practice The SEAL Physical Screening Test (PST).
It's comes with the job tho. Life actions have reactions. And some people don't mind dying doing something they love. It's just hard for the people that love them. ( in my best military accent!) I read the book and liked it. Then came across the taliban propaganda video on google, (which is very graphic and not recommended to emotionally unstable people) , the video depicts the bodies of Mike and Danny (right after the battle) , ..... and there are no wounds on their stomachs. Mike had several severe wounds on his face and forehead. Danny had severely bleeding leg.

@DEATH2ISREAL you can enlist at 17, after you graduate high school but your parents need to be on board and will need to sign permission for you to enlist. your Navy recruiter should have you meet a SO motivator while you are in DEP , he'll put you on a training regiment that will guide you

First of all speak to a recruiter. Two you do need your parents consent and you will need to work on some of your scores as well. Take the practice asvab. Work on your test scores so you ARE eligible for seal. Your recruiter can help you get on track for being in shape. They can give you a practice The SEAL Physical Screening Test (PST).

man have you ever read is book. Marcus Luttrell, writes an autobiography about it. He had permission to talk about the mission. an what does it matter if the bodies were found or not? obivously you've never heard military books on past missions. go to barnes and nobles theres a hole section of them.

Look folks, I never even attempted to call anybody a liar, all I said, I have doubts in accuracy, any human would not be able to register accurately the evens under the circumstances. Marcus is the man, just for surviving the ordeal, .... no questions asked. But the facts are .... the facts. You can see (clearly) the head shots on Mikey, which is described in Marcus' book. Any way, these guys definitely entered the military history.

mmm. I see what you mean. If you look closely though Mikey actually does have wounds on his stomach at about the 1:05 mark. What got me was Danny was said to have lost his right thumb, but in the Taliban video it is clearly intact

You guys realize that the bodies WERE recovered by the Navy, right? I have doubts that a book with made up injuries would have been allowed to be published. He had to clear all of the contents of the book with the Navy..

I read the book and liked it. Then came across the taliban propaganda video on google, (which is very graphic and not recommended to emotionally unstable people) , the video depicts the bodies of Mike and Danny (right after the battle) , ..... and there are no wounds on their stomachs. Mike had several severe wounds on his face and forehead. Danny had severely bleeding leg.

There is no greater act of love than to lay down your life for your brothers. Such a uniquely American quality of selflessness in battle has been forged since our militias and has been displayed every time we send our young men into harms way. They go because they love their country, thier Corps, Army, or Navy, but fight for the love of their brothers. Also, God Bless Marcus Luttrell, he has to remember that horrible day in vivid detail for the rest of his life. Those 4 give us each hope.

No, he is Lt Michael Murphy and he was killed during Operation Redwing. After taking two rounds to the body during the fight, and his teammates suffering injuries throughout, he walked out in the open where he would be in the center of gunfire to get a signal on his cell phone to call backup. He was shot again during the call, then continued fighting until he was killed. He was awarded the Medal of Honor. Marcus Luttrell was the only survivor, and wrote the book: Lone Survivor
